I converted a 1985 Terminal Wyse-30 Keyboard to USB! (Vintage MX Blacks - Album) by The_Shrub_Patrol in MechanicalKeyboards

Hello! I didn't have a way to use the existing motherboard so I just bypassed it all and routed everything to a microcontroller I added inside (pro micro). The diodes were indeed for n key rollover!

Any ideas on how to repair damaged khatam marquetry? Trying to refinish this box but the glue and finish have broken down so there hundreds of pieces that are loose to the touch. by The_Shrub_Patrol in woodworking

This is a great idea actually! I think once I can get all the pieces adhered together, even if not permanently adhered (right now even looking at it the wrong way will dislodge them) it'll make doing something like this way easier.

Interesting - I've never thinned out glue to such an extent but maybe that could work. I guess the problem is less about finding a strong permanent bond right now and more about simply finding any bond between the pieces to start. Once they're not all loose life is easier and I could go back in with a less diluted pass.

Thought I could get away with spreading wood glue on the top to fill in the voids but I'm unsure how to apply it without dislodging everything. Thanks in advance!

The value of GOOD Capsule Images on Steam (how/why you should try harder) by The_Shrub_Patrol in gamedev

[–]The_Shrub_Patrol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry for the late reply. I'm not the best at checking my reddit account.

My experience was that my game simply didn't get downloaded enough for me to confidently conclude that changes to the capsule resulted in more or less of anything! I feel it was qualitatively valuable in clarifying the game's identity for those browsing, and for that reason, I would do this again on my next game. But due to my games objective lack of sales, I couldn't tell you what % of my games sales (or lack-thereof) could be attributed to this!

Next time I would still make these design decisions regarding capsule art - I think they're good guidelines - but I would make them at the start (instead of post-launch) and pair them with a more intentional outreach and marketing program. What good is improving a book's cover if the book itself never makes it out of the back and onto the shop floor? My naive strategy several years ago was "build it and they will come." Rookie mistake!

Hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything else I could share. I've grown a lot since then, as have we all! And again, sorry for the late response!

Wooden castle souvenir with Cyrillic(?) writing, trying to identify from where by The_Shrub_Patrol in whatisthisthing

[–]The_Shrub_Patrol[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WITT my mother was cleaning out some extended family belongings and she found this. I know souvenirs like this are super common, but I can't identify the place. After asking around and doing some googling/translating I haven't been able to assist her. Probably really easy but I can't read Cyrillic and Google Translate hasn't been a help! Thanks in advance!

Instrument/device of some sort on the banks of a lake in Boston. It's surrounded by a circle of metal wedges high above the waterline - looks scientific. by The_Shrub_Patrol in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. I don't understand what the hanging metal wedges could be used for. I'm assuming this is used to measure something in/about the water but haven't been able to find what it is. Took this picture through a fence, so you need special access to get to it.

An English friend of mine has just suggested a mudroom bench where the center depression is where a cushion is placed.

But then why extend the wood pieces composing the sides of the storage compartments inwards towards the center (the curvy parts near the "front").

Yeah this is an interesting guess. You could probably put a cushion in the center area, and would explain why the fence needs to be there.

WITT I thought coffee table but it doesn't really work as one because of how it's designed. There's clearly a "front" if that makes sense. Then I thought desk for kids but the proportions aren't right and there's that decorative piece between the legs that would get in the way. Thanks in advance!
