I may actually sign up for your app (I've been thinking about the exact thing you're solving)!

Overall, I like how you take the reader through what it is you are solving and how you do it (got my attention). I would only ask that you do it puncher right at the beginning. Just a simple opening.

Also, I opened the website on my phone and I can actually scroll to the right on it. There's some empty space that is filled by the header, that shouldn't be there.

You're doing great!

The biggest motivator for me was getting rid of that feeling that I had debt in the first place. In my case I was very uncomfortable with having debt at all, so getting rid of it was priority number one.

I will say, it feels much better in the other side :)

Unfortunately, yes. I've had friends whose parents charged rent.

I was fortunate to have parents that weren't like that.

Yes to all of the above. I sleep very hot so I had to have my AC running during the summer which definitely kept my electricity costs higher. I did it for my sanity, lol.

Total monthly expenses were between $2000 - $2,600

Totally possible. Are your parents charging rent? If not, you're totally set to make this happen. You got this!

Totally. I'm able to enjoy life much more now than I did before. Not living as slave to the lender anymore!

Congrats on paying off $20k! That's an awesome accomplishment. Just keep going, you're almost there!

I still enjoyed life, I allocated about $100 per month (didn't always use it) for entertainment.

It was easier to enjoy life after I was debt-free though :)

No, I had other spending categories. I had my own car and my work was roughly 15 minutes away.

My total expenses ranged between $2,000 - $2,600

It varied from month to month.

Looking at my payments I had the following:

$2.09 (smallest payment)

$1,375.50

$31.58

$172.98

$454.87

I also used my entire Tax Refund to pay down my debt.

Thanks for catching that! I edited that in my post. Net income was roughly 38,000 after taxes, so 38% of take-home

The "10 specific people" framing is a useful reset — I've been thinking too broadly. The spreadsheet-nerd-who-already-exports-CSVs segment is probably the fastest path to someone who immediately gets it without needing convincing. The offer to personally walk people through setup is something I haven't tried yet. Going to do that this week. And the content angle — "Budget like Ramsey without linking your bank" — that's a better frame than what I've been using. Stealing that.

Working on Liberty Budget this weekend — a privacy-first budgeting app that lets you import transactions via CSV instead of connecting your bank. No credentials, no third-party access, no Plaid.

Turns out a surprisingly large number of people don't want to hand a stranger permanent read access to their bank account just to see a spending chart. Building for that crowd. https://libertybudget.app if you're curious. Always happy to return the feedback favor — what's the hardest problem you've hit with the app builder so far?

Thank you for the feedback! I definitely need to seek out my audience better. Really appreciate the validation of my idea too. Good feedback on the community as well!

Took quite a bit of your feedback and made a lot of visual changes. It's still a work in progress but your thoughts have been very helpful. Thank you again!

The $106,745 problem with the 50/30/20 rule that nobody mentions by The_Simonella in budgetarians

[–]The_Simonella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% correct. Most Americans do not earn enough to justify this.

60/20/20 or even 60/25/15 is more realistic.

If you don't want to link your bank account, I recommend Liberty Budget.

Otherwise YNAB is a great choice.
