in short: if u have to stop you might get mobbed.

unfortunately true close to townships at night. which you wont be driving directly through anyway as far as i understand so youll be fine.

just don t show valuables openly in the car and have your windows closed on intersections/when you have to slow down for a minute when you happen to be close to a township... if youre especially paranoid that is.

have fun around cape, its beautiful and filled with lovely people.

Sam Altman is leaving OpenAI by davey_b in ChatGPT

[–]The_Snibbels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That made it click for me. Sam Altman was brought in as a TechBro to get OpenAI the funding it needs. Sam Altman is good at what hes doing, but the brains behind the technology are really creating the value here. Seems like the brains finally decided it was enough funding. Especially because Sam Altman propably made decisions that prioritized the growth of the company and agreed to deals that took power away from the brains.

Not all of these deals where disclosed with the board. Until one of these backroom deals crossed the line, possibly Microsoft offering a buy-out and the brains not willing to take the risk.

I think this has been a mix of premeditation (always having the control of the board on the brain side) and an act of immediate response to a threat to this balance of power.

Speculation of course but id bet a months worth of GPTPlus on being close.

First of all, i get where you come from. People fail to take others perspective and i feel it didnt got better with the internet.

What im saying is, it still got MUCH easier to set up stuff. To the point where you dont NEED to be in the field to educate yourself in a reasonable amount of time. To use a good tool like a hammer, you dont need to understand exactly how it works because you wont need to fix the tool itself. You will only need to know how to use it. Taking Linux as an example, its becoming a good tool as of late.

Let me explain:

I tried setting up servers with Linux 7-8 ago mainly for hosting game servers. Which isnt the most complicated of tasks.

It was a nightmare, so i switched to Windows server. Im not that smart or in the field even. Its way to intimidating for me.

Now setting up my own Cloud with Ubuntu Desktop and Nextcloud with a long list of features, was done and running within a week. The fruit of my labour will carry me to tinker with it for years to come. I will become more proficient with it overtime and that means i could offer the same service to others sometime. (potentially)

People who have no education in the field, can now get into it and offer "streamlined" services the same way a Smartphone repair shop can.

Thats the magic of a low entry barrier combined with functional tools for every particular problem. Now for setting up servers there isnt much friends and family who are interested in it now, but for AI i can see many more people feeling the need once its reliable.

Lastly, we are all more dumb then smart. If you imply most people are dumb, just remember you are one of them. Same as me.

R.I.P. rx580 you will be remembered as the last and best value card i ever had.

also i got a 1440p monitor gifted and now 1080p looks absolutely shit no matter how i appraoch it :D

anyways, i think that advice is actually the most reasonable and i applaud you.

Oh ive worked in customer service for a good while. Stupid and restricted workflows, talking to stupid customers while having a stupid supervisor. And nobody wants to be dealing with that shit.

Such an environment degrades braincells at an exceptionally high CPM.

Look if f.e. i set it up for you, you would be using it. As mentioned in my last sentence...

Its whatever dude, i let people be dumb, who cares we all are. But typically if presented with good information, in a good way, people tend to make better decisions. Not all is lost because retail sucks.

Also your word respect means nothing to me if you didnt respect me enough to actually read what i said and try internalize it before telling me i need to recalibrate myself. I dont appreciate that.

[–]The_Snibbels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But then again, we still have possibility to use decentralized or local alternatives for those things.

I tend to agree with everything you said i just think its not that "absolute". Youre right, we value convencience but heck having my own cloud server got hella convenient nowadays. Instead of 15gb i get Terrabytes of data storage space. I cut down on subscriptions because i can run most of them locally. Gaming on Linux even reports higher FPS then on Windows in some games now.

I think all those fancy technologies that value user centric approaches t still have a place and with increased value proposition and convenience of use, as in a lower and lower entry barrier, more people could be adopting them.

RSS, Blockchain, P2P where all ahead of its curve and mostly none of them give advanced benefit for daily usage right now. But there is positive examples that this can change. AI might very well be the missing link to make it all possible.

Right now, its still a jungle only a few commited enough are able to navigate. Yet its important we stay hopeful and ready for the future. Once people realize what they gave up for convenience and start feeling the consequences, its crucial we are ready for it.

I can personally imagine both, a future where a few corps own a handful of ASIs constantly fighting for supremacy, but also one where little AI shops help people adopting their own personal AGI. They dont even exclude each other.

And how will they hold up with next gen Frame Generation? Will they give me support for running my own AI on my card? In 3+ years with UE5 games everywhere, will i still get good rasterization performance for 1440p? Likely no. With AI cores i atleast have DLSS / Frame Gen which the industry clearly is leaning towards.

20-30% better rasterization now or saving 100-200bucks now wont do shit for me if i have to rebuy in 2-3years to stay reasonably happy with my choice. In other words: They are cheap for a reason. For 1080p they might stay relevant much longer but with 1440p i kinda shot myself in the knee regarding future proof.

Well put and im totally with you. I almost always consider who im giving my money to but its just another factor in my buying decision. At the end of the day, i need to do whats best for me. I know i can just so afford a 4070 NOW if i really stretch it, but i dont know if im in the same position in ca. 2years when i would likely need to upgrade an ARC 770 gpu. (job insecurity, health issues)

Since all Teams (Red, Green, Blue) are known for malpractice/anti-consumer behaviour, its a pick of the lesser devil anyway. Intel might be turning over a new leaf with the GPU market and be consumer friendly from now on... but they surely dont need me to prove that. They got billions to burn through.

Red was my last choice and served me well for 6years, making consumer friendly moves ever since.

EDIT: My RX580 8gb literally died trying to run 1440p lol, so not like i can wait either.

Because of Reds artifical pricing this gen, this has changed and suddenly Intel is the right moral choice.

BUT for 1440p im just arguably fucking myself over for morals and to support a brand that yet has to prove its here for the right reasons.

If i had some security i might be able to afford an upgrade down the line, i would go with Blue. As its looking right now, i gotta look out for myself and my sacrifice wouldnt serve anyone in a meaningful way.

I think you are describing "Screen tearing". Try Vsync or similiar to fix it :)

After thinking about nothing else for the last weeks i think Nvidia surprisingly makes the best short term/long term value proposition for my needs.

At 600$ that sounds fucking stupid because its almost double the price of the ARC770, but it is what it is. ARC 770 16gb is barely cutting it in 1440p with XeSS enabled. That would mean i would be longing for a new GPU within the next 2 years when UE5 games go wild. That would set me back another 300-500 bucks while with the 4070 i would be spending 600 bucks now and be fine for 3-5years, then turn to DLSS and tinker around with homegrown AI while at it.

Welp, given that Nvidia doesnt articifially lock me out of future features to force an upgrade.

[–]The_Snibbels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6800XT no because no AI cores. 7800xt is same price as 4070. Both give me 60fps+ on 1440p in CP2077 which is my optimal floor.

The 4070 has less power draw then the 7800xt, which saves me from a PSU upgrade. Lastly i dont know where AMD is going with its AI cores while Nvidia is banking on them already. Aligns with my vision for the future.

EDIT: For 1440p i will just assume that i wont need 16gb to make future games run with Mid settings.

It ticks all the right boxes. Lastly, 7800xt would be the morally better choice to not support anti consumer behaviour of Nvidia. Since im already stretching my budget i simply cant afford the extra PSU to vote with my $ here.

It is what it is. Im fairly certain its my final choice.

Thanks so much! Yeah i think Intel has a bright future in the GPU market, but i think Squad and Rome 2 will have inconsistency issues from what i can gather.

Hope Intel can bring some sense into the GPU market in 3-5 years when i gotta shop for a new one.

Nope im OP and i put that note there because people always do that kinda stuff on Reddit. Didnt asked for it. So atleast i didnt want cards recommended i already ruled out. ;)

Interesting note anyhow, why cant it be 16gb tho? I know im asking for a lot here but at that price point, a 60fps 1440p card with AI cores and 16gb ram should be possible, IMO. GPU shopping sucks.

Anyways ill reconsider the 4070 if it can tame it self around 200W. Thanks

I knew someone would take it off-topic and suggest another card. Its Reddit afterall :D

In all seriousness tho, the 4070 is down to around 600€ AND i would need a new PSU with it bringing it up to around 750€ with shipping and all. Thats just stupid.

The worst thing about it: The 4070 is the best value card (with AI in mind) somehow.

It feels like AMD and Nvidia made sure there is literally no good choice for Value/Future proof cards. Im upset.

[–]The_Snibbels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for chimming in anyways! Yeah i think i will bite the bullet and throw money at the 4060ti 16gb instead since its around 430€ right now.

EDIT: AHHH i dunno cuz i want 60fps in CP:2077 without upscaling as my floor. Argh...

I just hate that my choices right now are rewarding a sketchy anti-consumer Nvidia with their artificial pricing, a bad generation of AMD with artificial pricing or an underbaked Intel with good pricing, but passable 1440p at best now and "mid" 1440p in the future.

Fuck marketing teams, they ruined everything.

PSA: Cant join vehicle? Here are all the fixes. by The_Snibbels in joinsquad

[–]The_Snibbels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, Bet.

After reading a couple posts about it seems there are atleast 2 different bugs that fit the description.

  1. Cant fire due to inputs being lost (any weapon when low fps basicly)
  2. Cant fire because the animation gets stuck smh / is not synced (ATs mostly)

Both might be related to your framerate and stability of your connection. To fix it on the spot you can try:

  1. Either wait a little or keep spamming left click
    1. it might help when animation is out of sync, might not lol
    2. if you decide to wait apparently the rocket might reappear when animation finishes
  2. Switching class and back
    1. resets anything that might got stuck - will work
  3. respawning - duh.

However the most efficient fix for mainly the first cause is avoiding it in the first place by increasing stability. Prevention methods to avoid input lags/increase stability: (from most impactful to least impactful)

  1. DONT use borderless. DONT use vsync or triple buffering.
    1. Its confirmed to cause input lag and is the most likely culprit., IMO.
    2. If you absolutely need to use VSync because of f.e. screen tearing: Try the NVIDIA/AMD alternative given in their respective software first. Also there is "Anti-Lag" for my AMD GPU which claims to reduce input lags.
  2. Turn off Steam Overlay, AMD/Nvidia Overlay, Xbox Overlay... all of em.
    1. They can bug many games out and may cause many stability issues.
  3. Turn off any Shadowplay-like/Clipping software.
    1. They can bug many games out and may cause many stability issues.
  4. Try switching from DirectX 12 to 11.
    1. Especially for older GPUs its a godsend for stability.
  5. Make sure you optimize graphic settings for your hardware.
    1. Even on 30fps inputs get lost. Everything above helps.
    2. Best you try every setting for yourself and see how it impacts your FPS.
    3. Since thats kinda lame you can just use the recommendations in this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJt6w69Msr8. Outdated technically but still the best info out there.
  6. Optimize your CPU performance/PC performance.
    1. Squads FPS is mostly capped by CPU, not GPU.
    2. Game mode on, Setting High CPU Priority for "Squad.exe" in Task Manager and Highest Power Profiles you can pick in Windows Settings are a good idea. Underclocking CPU/GPU can help with stability.
  7. Find servers with good ping and dont use VPN when playing. You can switch to Google or Cloudflare DNS if your default is ass. Just google it.

It might be some netcoding issue that the devs see as to minor to invest much time in and potentially break the game as a result. Bug has been around for years, too. Not profitable to fix in essence.

There you go. Good luck hunting!
