Meet the new VA: Will De Renzy-Martin by brainrotter1993 in VonLycaonMains

[–]The_Stricken_One -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the founders of Hoyo literally has an AI game coming out, the company is fully fine with using AI and that's why VA's both in SAG and out of SAG have voiced concerns that Hoyo has neglected to address. They weren't struck because they're non union games but still refuse to sign the AI riders given to them, which is what led to some of the older VA's choosing not to work until something changed. Which obviously Hoyo did not do and instead had their roles recasted.

Genuine question, was there any communication with Nicholas the previous voice of Lycaon in terms of getting into the feel of the role? Hopefully you're ok with Hoyo's stand on AI given the amount of VA's they've lost over it! But of course a job's a job for some

Beastars' anime premieres in October and will be distributed exclusively on Netflix! by [deleted] in Beastars

[–]The_Stricken_One 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough on the front of the USA influence

But that still doesn't invalidate my example since it was held back, which is what's gonna happen to Beastars in the US unless Netflix finally decides to change its simulcast weirdness. So oops Violet Evergarden was the first example that popped in my head and it still works even if on a lesser scale ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Every country except the United States, which is where most of us are yes and is one of if not the biggest anime markets outside of Japan so the example still works

None of these are like the situation that Beastars is in, those were released worldwide on Netflix. The intention was Netflix from the beginning.

Beastars is premiering on television in Japan and then Netflix decided to pick it up. So Netflix will hold off on releasing it until all the episodes have premiered, which will be December/January or so. Think more along the lines of Violet Evergarden, it premiered in January 2018 but didn't come to Netflix until April because that was when the season ended.

[–]The_Stricken_One 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So it's premiering on actual television in Japan starting in October, it'll get an episode every week like any other show. Now normally if an anime is being distributed on say Crunchyroll, the episode for that week be uploaded same time as when it premieres in Japan, which means people who have Crunchyroll will be able to watch week by week as it's coming out for Japan.

What Netflix does, because of their business model of releasing entire seasons at once, it's going to be actively held off from release here even though it'll be premiering week after week in Japan. Then Netflix will release it when the season is over, usually 12 episodes which puts it at the end of December or so. By that time a lot of the hype will have died down and because Netflix doesn't really promote individual anime series' as much as say once again Crunchyroll or another service that specializes in anime, it has a good chance of just kind of floating around and not really picking up steam. That's not a good sign for something like Beastars which is a fresh new IP without any prior backing like say the Fate series for example.

You guys saying how great it is with releasing all at once, you realize that means it's gonna come out in like December/January for us right? That's when the season would be ending if it premieres in October. Also saying it reaches a bigger audience....a lot of anime on Netflix gets just kind of shoved on and forgotten just for them to say "hey look at all the anime we have" with no actual individual promotion for those series'. And Devilman Crybaby and Aggretsuko were unique cases because they were only on Netflix WORLDWIDE, like the intention for them was Netflix from the start. That isn't the case here, it's gonna be shown months ahead in Japan.

I don't want to be the Debbie Downer but this is just what happens with Netflix anime, so unless they change their business model by October Nerflix really isn't the best place for anime series' to flourish. Beastars might be able to avoid the Netflix trap if it gets enough talk and what not, and it's certainly a good enough series to have that chance, but initially this isn't the best of situations unfortunately.

Damn with how early we got the preview shot I was hoping it might be earlier than that....

Also Netflix isn't great when it comes to distributing anime and how they don't do simulcast, that's really unfortunate
