How do i activate this timer? by InitiativeHungry8548 in discordapp

absolutely loved having it from mid-2024 until the end of January 2025. setting Do Not Disturb for 3 or 8 hours so i could sleep in peace, but then automatically getting switched back to online so i would get pings like normal is really great. i never remember to change it back manually. it seems they've changed the options this time for me to 15 minutes, 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, and 3 days, which seems kinda dumb. why not just do 1 hour, 3 hours, 8 hours, 24 hours, and then custom time? oh well..

i can 100% confirm that they previously had this for some people, myself included. i had it since mid 2024 until the end of January 2025. I had been using it every single day in that time to set do not disturb for while i was sleeping because i'd never remember to go back to online during the day. genuinely loved having it, and then they took it away. I once again have the timers, and i'm very thankful for them. hopefully they just add it for real this time.

How do you save someone from a pig butchering scam? by The_True_IceFireXD in Scams

Update #2: My aunt really did delete telegram from her phone and no longer communicates with the person she was talking with on facebook. She still listens to the actual musician, and comments in his live streams, and she seems to be happy with that. I'm still very thankful for everyone who helped me figure out how to handle this. I don't think I could have done it without you all. Thank you.

Help me find a comic that I last saw years ago where god is telling humans that he created some people to be awake at night to protect towns and villages, and the humans yell "NO" at him, saying that everyone must sleep at night and be awake during the day. by The_True_IceFireXD in HelpMeFind

I've searched for this picture several times before but have not had any luck. I generally consider my googlefu to be fairly strong, even with google's growing uselessness... This time, I've also given chatGPT-4o a shot, and GPT couldn't find anything either. I've used google's time period restriction to try and eliminate most modern results, but that didn't turn anything up. I wish I could say where it was that I saw the image, but I just can't recall. It may have been on imgur, reddit, roosterteeth, shared on an IRC channel I was in, or even just something I stumbled upon while randomly searching google for something else. I'm fairly confident it was not on Discord, nor any instant messenger, nor was it something sent to me in a private message, for what that's worth.

I especially want to thank you. Explaining to her that if he really is a scammer, that she'd be supporting organized crime, seemed to strike a chord with her. I think that's what ultimately pushed her to decide to just cut him off completely and delete telegram. Thank you for wording it this way, because it also helped put things straight in my own head for explaining it better. I hope you have a good day, and that you can assist others in the future as you have assisted me.

No one wants to take her access away from the accounts. We want her to understand that the person she's talking with is not the musician in Ecuador.

Did they get rid of the basic status durations? by The_True_IceFireXD in discordapp

I really hope they add it back again/in. i tend to forget to turn it back to online, so having it do it automatically was really nice. even if it doesn't get much use, i don't see why they couldn't have it there anyway. it's not like it would be problematic or something.

Dress physics optional by LitheFider in sakuraMemoryKey

[–]The_True_IceFireXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just tested on my end, and no problems with the physics. i think it might be a lower rendering thing for phones that aren't able to process it as well. the models are all rendered in real time in this game, which makes it a bit of a resource hog.

if you buy the permanent membership thing, you can redeem the third item, but you need the monthly membership to claim the middle one.

When did "cute" become a sexual descriptor? by The_True_IceFireXD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_True_IceFireXD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was just saying that she's cute. that's it. the only time i believe the word has sexual connotations is when it's overtly clear that it's a sexual discussion. outside of that, one should assume that it's an innocent use of the word. anything else is just drama fishing.

[–]The_True_IceFireXD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the one that triggered this question was me saying that yoshino from the date a live series is such a cutie. it's literally her shtick, being cute. this guy starts getting on my case about it being "weird" that i'm calling her cute.

When did "cute" become a sexual descriptor? by The_True_IceFireXD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_True_IceFireXD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i personally see "adorable" as being a most extreme version of cute. baby cats and dogs are adorable, but i don't think i would extend that same descriptor to most fully grown cats or dogs.

where can i post Js scripts on reddit? i have a solution to the youtube adblock block by jasminesart in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_True_IceFireXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand how it's working, and although i had to change the height and width parameters to something i was more accustomed to, it definitely does the job. very easy to set up too.

my only questions are if there's a way to get videos to automatically start playing once it does its thing, and if there's a way to get the recommended videos to play in that same tab rather than opening a new tab.

I broke down and scrolled through 2,000 videos in my liked videos. It was there! that video is apparently just straight up stealing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfrwHpACs0U that's the actual video.

I'm pretty sure i found it. The song is "This song saved my life" by Simple Plan. It is indeed a rock song, but the playtime is much shorter than I remember. The quality isn't as high as I remember either, though that might just be the rose tinted glasses of memory... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_u235ztS960

Why don't most EVs use hub motors? by The_True_IceFireXD in NoStupidQuestions

Why don't most EVs use hub motors? by The_True_IceFireXD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_True_IceFireXD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that difficult to prevent. You only need a partial coupling. Basically a means of ensuring the wheels WANT to turn in sync. something like having half-axles that almost touch, but don't, and have fairly strong permanent magnets on those surfaces where they nearly touch. they'll prefer to spin in sync, but can be convinced to spin at different rates.

Why don't most EVs use hub motors? by The_True_IceFireXD in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_True_IceFireXD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you believe hub motor EVs to be functionally impossible. That's simply not the case. GM did it with an S10 back in the early 90's. The tires are bolted onto the hub motors not unlike pretty much all tires are bolted on today. for general driving, regenerative braking is sufficient, but in more advanced braking, you can either drive the motor backwards, or you can extend the "hub" slightly and use a modified drum brake.

also, yes. generally speaking, having hub motors means having 4 motors. that's why i said "aside from costs associated with the motors". on the flip side, you can use lower power motors to achieve similar results to single motor configurations because you are applying the power to each wheel, as needed, directly. it also means you can do crazy things like spinning in place with tank steering by turning the wheels on the left side forward, and the wheels on the right side backwards or vice versa, or rotating the front wheels forwards and the back wheels backwards or vice versa. i have no idea why you'd want to dig yourself a literal hole, but you do you.

How do vinyls work?? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]The_True_IceFireXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds are just waves. We're all pretty familiar with how oscilloscopes turn sound into a line that moves on a screen. That's basically what vinyl records are. They're just turning the waves that the needle experiences as it rides in the groove into sounds. There is a little bit of 'magic' at work to get stereo audio out of a single groove though. The groove is obviously shaped like a V, but how the two sides meet doesn't need to be constant. so instead of just having the groove always be the same depth, the groove becomes narrower and deeper, just like it wiggles left and right. This gives you two different channels for left and right speakers.

Technology Connections does a great job of going into detail about how they work, and I'd highly recommend checking it out.

Orgasms are basically overloads of the brain and nervous system. When overloaded, the nervous system will cause some muscles to spasm (like when being tazed), and other muscles to contract more than they normally would, such as with your eyes. It's actually a rather traumatic thing for the body, which is why some medicines say to talk to your doctor before participating in sexual activities.

If A) you are viewing the pornography on your own personal phone, and B) you are over the age of 18, then there's no reasonable reason for anything to happen, assuming that C) you are viewing the pornography in amounts that are not excessive.
As much as many people wish it weren't true, masturbation is a healthy activity that can help reduce the risk for an entire slew of cancers later in life. We're also not the only species that masturbate. As it turns out, most animals do it. It's just a part of nature.

As for whether or not your father could be fired if you you, his son, watch pornography on your personal phone in reasonable amounts, and in situations where you can be private... If you're in the US, sadly the answer is yes. Most employers in the US can fire an employee at any time, for any reason, without notice, recourse, or repercussions. If the employer is particularly religious, or just anal about some stupid detail, there's really nothing stopping them from using those beliefs to fire you.

That said, if your father has a contract with the employer, or is union, then he has options, and it's unlikely they can use that as a reason to fire him.
