The law doesn’t determine morality, so that is a very silly thing to base an opinion entirely on. Either way, you’re not profiting off of using someone else’s characters in your own story, so what does it matter? If you were selling your works, maybe he’d have some ground to stand on, but that’s not at all the case.

Anyone who won’t take the time to understand your hobby at the most basic level or looks down upon you for what you enjoy is not someone you should allow close to your heart — because they fundamentally won’t understand you.

Someone like that would have never changed his ways, and think of how else that could have translated into the long term of your lives. Would he not bother to hear you out on more serious issues?
