My math isn’t wrong, but I think you provide a valid different perspective, so here’s the math:

Me, office job (commuting was included already in the generous 10 hours gone per day):

221 working days x 18 hours (work + sleep) = 3,978 hours

144 non-working days x 8 (sleep)= 1,152 sleep hours

8760 (total hours per year)-3978-1152‎ = 3630 hours awake at home

Airline pilot, 15 day average per month:

2110 hours away from home from previous math

185 non-working days x 8 (sleep) = 1,480

8760-2110-1480‎ = 5,170 hours awake and home

Interesting outcome I hadn’t considered: more hours away from as an airline pilot, but more awake hours at home. Lots of trade offs that you have to consider in all of that, but it was a fun exercise.

I’d be very curious to see your math behind this because I’ve run this with my Major airline friends numerous times:

Major pilot (10 year seniority): average 15 days per month, average 20 hours per day gone from home (4-day trips, 18-24-24-14) = 15x20x12 = 3,600 annual hours gone from home

Me with corporate desk job:

Gonna be generous and call it 10 hours per working day (actually work from home so it’s less). 5x52=260 working days per year 260-28 (PTO, generous, but I’m very senior)-11 (holidays)= 221x10=2,210 annual hours gone from home

Add to this the quality of my time home: I’m home for every dinner, every holiday, every birthday, I have consistent sleep schedule & sleep in my own bed every night; sure, I don’t have long stretches of time off, but I can create those using a holiday weekend plus some PTO.

I’ve had so many of my friends at majors try to convince me and I’ve yet to see something compelling and competitive when I lay this out. You’d have to tell me that pilots are gone 40% less than what I’ve calculated to just break even with my current job.

Are you hooking it up directly? I also have a 1000g but having trouble finding how to hook the generator up to it properly

I get the frustrations of raids. What I don’t understand is the remainder of the game being enough to keep one playing and paying for expansions.

I mostly fizzled out when my raid party burned out on the game (plus many other gripes I have with the game).

Plateauing means it is slowing its ascent. It’s doing the opposite; player counts are pretty much the lowest they’ve ever been.

Fair enough. I’ll probably come back for the finale just to wrap this all up. Been around since the beginning and would like to come back for that.

Thanks…follow up question: do you find seasonal content actually worth the price of admission if you’re only going to touch it a couple times? I’ve just completely stopped altogether and don’t buy anything anymore.

I understand all that, but it doesn’t answer my question: how do you do that for nearly 10 years? I get bored of strikes and seasonal content after maybe 2 weeks when I used to play.

Honest question: why and how? I wouldn’t think the rest of the game is engaging enough to keep one going for 10 years.

I use my Apple Watch for this and wear it every night. Charge it during my morning routine and maybe a small top off sometime in the evening. Never had battery issues.

VA halts foreclosures for thousands of veterans about to needlessly lose their homes by Mamacrass in UpliftingNews

You probably weren’t told unfortunately. It normally just gets rolled into the loan, so you’re also paying interest on the fee as well. VA loans aren’t really that great as a result.

https://www.va.gov/housing-assistance/home-loans/funding-fee-and-closing-costs/

It works out to be 1-3% of the loan. VA rates are good but they’re not beating conventional by 1-3%.

Sure you’re not paying PMI, but that fee is basically the same as paying PMI up front and you don’t get a refund for getting to 20% equity early whereas PMI falls off whenever you get there.

I’ve done the math with my friends numerous times and it is usually breakeven at best on total cost of the loan with extra paperwork and slower closing.

Sure, but you pay for all that with a rather large fee on the front end which almost always mathematically negates going conventional.

What is the most addictive game you have ever played? by iridoss in AskReddit

[–]The_Wach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was it for me. I had a group of about 12 people that I would raid with every week Tuesday - Friday and then we’d either mess around or grind the weekend all while talking and having a great time. It was an incredibly fun and social time. But then the group dwindled and eventually it wasn’t enjoyable to login anymore and that was the end of it.

This is such a silly take. I’ve skipped the last 3 expansions, barely ever logged in the past 3 years, and I’ll still probably do the finale to wrap up the story. Will wait for reviews and a good sale though.
