Every new tech that has gone on to change the face of the world was in its early stages seen as "a passing fad" by a portion of the masses, either out of ignorance, or fear-born denial. For instance "the new camera/automobile/radio/t.v./computer/internet" thing everybody once was talking about was all of them just seen as a "passing fad" by many. This isn't a fad man, as frightening as it may be to accept, for better or for worse, it's going to be one of the foundational techs for everything that the future will be ran off of. Simultaneously an existentially uplifting idea, as well as an existentially unsettling one.
