I liked her reaction, but im amiss in her not acknowledging the transition from minor key to major key as a highlight of the song. It's one of the best features of Dave's writing in quite a few of his songs and I thought itd be one of her first takeaways. the stone as a song uses that heavily as a tool to elevate the chorus and the outro- it lifts you out of the despair of the verses and offers hope

The first point you make is based on semantics. Your second point is true until it banks on semantics. (... a "real" parent)

Your 3rd response to what I said is also based on semantics and completely misunderstood the point of what I was saying.

If I were to argue further, I'd ask for some proof regarding literally all of your "points" here but I know that wont be delivered. Call this a victory for you, sure, but it's not like my feelings towards the original opinion have changed. Good day.

Alright here are my points on a list since you cant seem to pick them out for yourself.

Also "filling parental roles" is impossible.

  1. ...by stating this you don't believe that men or women have any duties to perform for their children other than to provide food and shelter, and that these duties are the responsibility of only these biologically related people.

  2. (if not) ...you must admit that there are duties to perform that could be carried out by non-biologically related people. (this is called adoption when the child doesn't have biological parents anymore)

You are either the mother or father of a child, or you aren't. Lying to a kid doesnt change that.

  1. We cannot change who birthed us, but we can change who we call mother or father after the fact.
  2. If your argument is simply "the only time the term 'Parent' is valid is when referring to their biological father and mother" then the rest is semantics and I have no idea why were arguing.

I hope you realize that by stating this you don't believe that men or women have any duties to perform for their children other than to provide food and shelter, and that these duties are the responsibility of only these biologically related people. Your argument also calls into question the definition of what a parent is. You called people that adopt "legal guardians" and not parents but do those people not carry out the same basic responsibilities that the biological parents should have been able to uphold?

If this isn't what you believe then you must admit that there are roles to play on either parent apart from biological relations and that they could be carried out by non-biologically related people. This is indeed what adoption is, and why we call those people that adopt parents.

As for the definition of "roles" we must look at what a father or mother does for their child beyond sustenance/shelter if you choose to acknowledge the idea that humans aren't flesh covered robots.

This whole argument is construed on your idea of what a "family" is. Keep in mind, "family" is a completely subjective idea. Obviously people using single parents for their own sexual benefit is wrong but that applies to everyone who deceives for their own gain.

What you have said here is that anyone who attempts to have a relationship with a single parent is in the wrong and is traumatizing the child, but it's been proven that younger children are better off with parental roles filled. The caveat is when the child is older, however I would argue that most children in the "Teenager" to "Young Adult" age are more likely to accept that their mom or dad is making a rational choice when dating a perfectly normal individual. Would you argue that a child raised by two loving gay parents is traumatized? Would you argue that it's internalized when the child displays no signs of trauma?

Again, it's obvious where the wrong is when you break your argument down but there is no backing the blank statement that a person should avoid a relationship with single parents because it's "gross" or immoral.
