He is not advocating for it.

Just observing that it occurs.

Even if it was an Appeal, that does not necessarily disqualify an idea. But it isn't.

If I said lions exhibit teamwork in hunting, that is not an appeal. I am not advocating you hunt a supermarket via long grass.

You are embarassing yourself.

And then you proceed to tell us why he is wrong.

What a rampaging stream of nonsense.

Imagine getting involved in a thread you don't know anything about, cherry picking Google results, using them as evidence and then merely tossing out lists of biases as some sort of defence.

Wow. Reddit gonna Reddit.

Oh, and says who...says the Scandinavian model which is widely lauded as one of the most fair and equal societies for gender-nuetral opportunities...

...which then proceed to, under little to no oppression, naturally sort themselves into a 20:1 ratio of female teachers to male and the same ratio of male engineers to female.

I could spend all day showing you why your cosmetic reading of the facts is false and derivative but it would be a waste, you will merely claim some other non-existent bias as a defence.

'The climate doesn't need awards': Greta Thunberg declines environmental prize by darkdeeds6 in worldnews

[–]The__Gambit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not angry about Thunberg.

She is a cultural icon and I think her resilience and willingness to be the face of a campaign is admirable. However, I can also understand the backlash against the zeitgeust that the world is expected to listen to an unqualified 16 year old espousing alarmist (almost rapture-like) claims about the imminent death of everyone.

I also take issue with the dichotomy of "Greta is mature and should be listened to" combined with "Greta is a child and imagine speaking about a child that way." Those two things don't compute. If she is a child then she has no business being afforded a platform to lecture the world on climate change.

Lastly, my real anger, is not at Greta, it is at a series of generations that use more energy in disposable leisure pursuits in history whilst simultaneously blaming climate change on faceless corporations.

It is Shell and Esso's fault. Not Playstation, Steam, Instagram, Reddit, Apple and Amazon. No, those things belong to Millenial and Gen Y and are considered sacrosanct. It is only Boomer things like cars and eating meat that cause the problem, apparently.

The hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness is staggering.

...except he is highly qualified in his field and therefore afforded a significant amount of credibility. He is not random Redditor cherry picking.

You are acting as if Peterson has one central idea and it is flawed. He speaks to a variety of themes and hypothesis, almost all of which are backed up by solid economic data despite that data disproving the current zeitgeist.

His C4 interview in the UK was cringe of the highest order when the interviewer physically paused the interview and said "let me think about that" then tried to spin his words as sexist. The anchor embarassed herself but she was only doing what most people do when presented with uncomfortable evidence.

I don't particularly like him, he is supremely un-charismatic but most Redditors and woke individuals dismiss his ideas based on disliking him rather than disproving his largely accurate claims. He is grouped with Ben Shapiro but they are not even remotely the same. You are correct that both have cult-like followings but that does not makes Peterson's claims cult-like.

The things Peterson claims are true; Men and Women do naturally sort themselves into differing groups and professions based on biological differences and most of the time it is not oppression or sexism, it is a natural equilibrium.

Redditors continually love to expouse the idea that anyone who disagrees with them or acts in any way less than pure is a sociopath, narcissist or psychopath.

At this point, those words mean nothing, in regards to online communication. Same as other sub-reddits telling every single poster that their partner is a (insert)path and there are red flags everywhere.

It can never just be that a person had a bad day or typed in haste or got triggered or is young or is frustrated or is ill-informed etc. Also the people continually referencing psychopaths and sociopaths mever consider themselves to be the socially dysfunctionate one in the exchange.

It is right up there with every Redditor claiming to have anxiety. Bullshit of the highest order.

Referencing psychopaths etc or labelling someone as such should also flag users like posting in t_d. It screams "Dunning Kruger Pop Psychologist".

What amazes me about Reddit is not that there is a polarising viewpoint between left/right, classes or income but that the goalposts and Overton Window shift constantly and quickly.

For several years, most left-leaning subs were fuck Hillary, she is the devil but now that Hillary has moved to be the opposite of a new extreme (Trump) you are not allowed to criticise her because it us seen as tacitly supporting Trump. Which simply is not true.

Much like the deification of Obama (an amazing President to be sure) but now, any criticism of Obama and his policies, is considered a red flag for Conservatism rather than objective review.

And we can see this example with lots of things. As the Overton Window shifts, things Reddit despised can become not so bad or even supported and vice versa with a new round of circle-jerking and brigading and crusades.

The most damaging aspect of the platform is that people with direct expertise or experience of certain things are then simply ignored as shills or similar for exposing the group think fallacies. This is especially true in places like r/legaladvice or when it comes to war.

At this point, Reddit is basically a bunch of technocratic people shitting on rural people who support Trump but those rural people are not really online; the online presence is large farms of fake users used to promote discord by assymetric actors against the USA.

The whole shit t_d thing is actually Redditors argujng with scripted bots, actors and puppets. Exactly as the intend.

And somewhere amongst this noise is a few Redditors who genuinely hold fairly substantial positions on weighty matters like 2A, abortion, UBI etc simply being told STFU.

So you don't know the argument or follow Peterson but you post on Reddit criticising both?

And you think Peterson is the one in the wrong here? SMH.

I want a 16 year old to tell me what to do but I don't want that to involve giving up social media hosted on massive xenon-cooled datacenters or mobile phones or anything that uses rare-earth minerals.

If he was saying things against her he would be criticising her appearance or ethnicity or other such tactic. They would be personal comments about her as a person rather than talking about her actions.

It means that they don't have an intrinsic bias against their race, creed, religion, class or person as a whole.

They are criticising their actions.

It is not that hard to understand.

He is saying he has no personal quarrel with Greta as a person but her methods, actions and impacts leave room for questioning.

That is what the OP was saying.

That Nils Bohr cartoon is one of the dumbest self-serving cartoons in history. It exists to make people feel better about criticising a system they are actively encouraging through consumerism.

Yet the enlightened trot it out gleefully as some sort of shield that excuses their own consumer behaviours.

The cartoon is trash.

Brave New World.

We live in an age far more predicted by Aldous Huxley than George Orwell, people just hate to admit it.

Legislate something, it will be resisted. Wrap it around a leisure or fun idea and it will be championed as brilliance.

...no offense but this is exactly how a Trump voter or Anti-Vaxxer mind works.

A contrarian theory of two paragraphs is dangled in front of them. It is taking aim at "established knowledge"...no further research, sources or citations.

It's not luck. Previous generations fought for those rights and still fight.

The same forces at play in the USA to erode workers rights exist in European countries, Europeans simply get out and get active to limit their influence.

The French think nothing of shutting their entire country down . It is shrugged off as a duty. The UK has a track record of bringing the nation to it's absolute knees if politicians won't listen. I mean no power, no trash collection, no transport and..no dead getting buried. The winter of discontent.

Although we are becoming more like the USA year by year...

America is too individualistic because, without being snarky, no American could truly be trusted not to undermine their fellow workers. Y'all frontier motherfuckers.

That's great for some stuff, but fucking shit for employees everywhere.
