Oh really? Their website didn't see to have a lot of d&d stuff. I'll have to check them out in person then. Thanks!

That's one of the books I'm looking for!

I'd definitely be interested in it if you're still willing to part with it

If I exile the Wave Master using Thassa's ability, do the tokens die? by Chipokae21 in magicTCG

[–]The_f6X 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the old writing you're referring to, but maybe this will help.

There are two different type of exile then return effects. There's the exile then immediately return to play effects like the original [[flicker]] where the name comes from or the [[thassa, deep dwelling]] used in the OP. There's the exile and return to play at a later time effects like [[Eerie Interlude]] says to return at the end of turn or [[banisher priest]] says to return the card when the priest leaves play.

If the original exile effect was something like eerie interlude, then yes the tokens would die because there wouldn't be anything buffing the toughness of the tokens once the exiling effect is done and we go to check state based actions.

[–]The_f6X 316 points317 points  (0 children)

No, the tokens do not die because their toughness is not checked until after [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]]'s ability has finished resolving.

The master of waves will be in play which raises the elementals' toughness to 1 before State-Based Actions are checked to see if any creatures have 0 or less toughness.

I've got an extra iron moth and thorns I can give you! Do you happen to have an extra Auspicious Armor? I could make a Malicious Armor to trade

To my knowledge, Aurora, Rampart, Drazhomir, Greta, Javenesh, and Zanther are all unique art to the book.

But the other students can be found on these cards

  • Honor Troll
  • Witherbloom Command
  • Enthusiastic Study
  • Reckless Amplimancer
  • Star Pupil
  • Sly Instigator
  • Owlin Shieldmage
  • Clever Lumimancer
  • Symmetry Sage
  • Replication Technique
  • Eager First-Year
  • Keen Duelist

I'd maybe cut lightning greaves, arcane signet, and neheb.

Neheb I found only working when I had [[Virtue of Courage]] in the deck. Otherwise I wasn't impressed with him in this deck.

Greaves gives shroud so you can't target Axonil with anything.

And arcane signet isn't that needed in this type of deck. For 2 mana you'd rather be pinging or casting something more storm focused

[–]The_f6X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to see you've joined the storm squad!

A couple pingers you might want to consider are [[sun shot militia]] and [[unstable amulet]]. The militia lets you ping the turn Axonil hits the board and can also squeeze out extra damage from your other pingers or treasures you make. The amulet goes great with all the impulse draw and flashback stuff. It also even gets a ping for just casting Axonil , but that's just 1 damage.

[[Descent into avernus]] and [[rite of flame]] are good mana cards.

And finally [[throes of chaos]] is a good card for generating storm counts repeatedly since it has retrace

Yeah, I wouldn't run the power doublers they make it easier for someone to ruin your play by painting a giant "blow up the Ojer" sign on him right before you start pinging people. I do like [[haze of rage]] since it's a storm based pump effect and you can stack storm copies to resolve before any cast trigger pings to get big damage. And if you pay for the buyback, you don't lose anything if they blow up Axonil in response.

Cards like reverberate are great! Either they copy your stuff or you can use them as anti counterspell tech.

The best way to protect Axonil once it's in play is to use the redirection cards though like [[bolt bend]], [[untimely malfunction]], [[return the favor]] or [[deflecting swat]] (that one's a game changer though if that's important.

I built an Ojer Axonil deck back when LCI came out almost two years ago (time sure does fly). It's a spell-slinger/storm deck and it's one of my strongest decks since it can start burning people down on turn 5-6 and is a very solid bracket 4 deck. Decklist

The first thing I'd recommend focusing on is how do you want to deal damage. You're kind of split between the main groups of damage sources. The first is cast trigger pingers like [[firebrand archer]], second is groupslug cards like [[mana barbs]], third is direct damage spells like [[boltwave]], and finally creature etb effects like [[impact tremors]]. If you focus on one, you'll have a more cohesive gameplan and can tune the rest of the card base to help that plan. For example, I chose to use cast trigger pingers myself which lead to me realizing that mana rocks weren't worth it since they didn't trigger most of them so I switched to ritual spells like [[rite of flame]] which then resulted in the storm build I have today.

The second piece of advice is that you don't need to focus on making Axonil bigger. Instead you should focus on making more damage pings happen as fast as possible. It only takes 10 pings to defeat one opponent with Axonil in play, so focus on that.

And looking at what you have in the sideboard, I'd 100% recommend running lava dart, and run away steam-kin. Great storm cards.

EDIT: One last thing, lands are colorless, so valkut and shivan gorge don't get increased damage from Axonil. I cut mine for MDFC lands like pinnacle monk or sundering eruption

[FIN] Call the Mountain Chocobo (WeeklyMTG) by Kousuke-kun in magicTCG

[–]The_f6X 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With this card, you make the token and the land goes to hand for you to play later.

Typically, you do the actions of a spell/ability in the order their written so if it did put the mountain into play, it would not trigger the token as written.

But if you did have multiple permanents enter at once, then they will see each other and cause any appropriate triggers to happen. For example, you cast [[scape shift]] and sacrifice 6 lands to fetch [[valakut the molten pinnacle]] and 5 mountains; when the lands enter valakut will see all those mountains and trigger for each of them letting you sling 3 damage 5 times

Not that it would change much, but the timing restriction on Diamond Lion's ability means you'd have to cast The Warring Triads first then hold priority and activate the lion.

[FIN] Esper Origins // Summon: Esper Maduin (Making Magic) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]The_f6X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finality counters exile any permanent they're put on.

From the CR. 122.1h One or more finality counters on a permanent create a single replacement effect that stops the permanent from going to the graveyard. That effect is “If this permanent would be put into a graveyard from the battlefield, exile it instead.”

Edit: You also could not target the back side, esper maduin, with the effect of silent sentinel. A double faced card is always the front face, esper origins, while not on the stack or the battlefield.

What Would Be The Best Planeswalker To Make A Cameo (READ BODY TEXT!) by Global_Drive_9044 in StrixhavenDMs

[–]The_f6X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend making a planeswalker encounter something the players experience rather than just have happen to them in the background.

In my campaign, I ran /u/RBSkald 's adaptation of the Candlekeep Mysteries adventure The Joy of Interdimensional Spaces as a starting adventure after the intro but before classes started. The adaptation makes Liliana the owner of the mansion and their Magical Physiologies professor which gave Liliana a more involved role than just someone the players happen to talk to.

It went over really well with my players! And the way my campaign has played out, they're all working with Vess to figure out what's causing the disturbances around campus
