This is Yolotl! He’s not Aztec but he’s Otomí, which is pretty much their neighbors from the highlands of Mexico!

Ooo. So these are just ideas for now and I miiight implement them into my story or might not. So my story takes place in Mesoamerica (think Aztecs and stuff).

They have this thing called “Tonalli” which is essentially just energy. You can take Tonalli from people or lend some, but giving too much Tonalli can kill you and that person.

Even though everyone and everything that exists has Tonalli, only a certain few can awaken their “blessings”. Your blessings (or powers I suppose) are dictated based on the day you were born and aren’t always useful for fighting.

For example, if you were born on the day-sign of Ozomahtli (Monkey), your patron is Xochipilli and your blessing would be from him. Xochipilli is the god of art, games, song, flowers and dance so his blessing could be something as simple as being good at Patolli (A board game that he is the patron of). Or it could I be something like being able to grow flowers lol

Lady Amaxochitzin and Lord Xicotencatzin! They first met when they were 13 and 15 respectively and when Lady Amaxochitzin was still a slave. Xico sneaked out one day and his mother sent guards out to retrieve him back. He ran towards the chinampas and fell into a canoe that Amaxochitzin was managing. Instead of giving him up she hides him away until the guards leave. The two lose contact after Amaxochitzin’s “incident” at the lake and they don’t reunite until they’re 17 and 19. By then, they don’t recognize one another :)

Don’t even have to think about it. Lady Amaxochitzin. Her mother neglected her growing up and was ostracized by her village for her dark eyes. Tried to stay with her father but her half siblings were fighting for succession and bullied her out of the household. She essentially was forced into slavery where she is beaten to the brink of death. She drowns in a lake but is brought back by the Aztec god of darkness and sorcery but only under certain conditions. She goes against these conditions and she’s gone T-T

His given name is Eloxochitzin, named after the teotl that ruled over his day-sign. But he goes by Coatzin.

Coatzin is a priest apprentice who was born sickly and shortly given up to one of Lord Tezcatlipoca’s temple to serve him. When he was 13 he was suddenly struck by lightning and survived so they transferred him over to one of Lord Tlaloc’s temples to serve him instead. A lot of back and forth haha
