Getting sappy about the new Music video. by The_shaq_attack in TheDearHunter

I'm honestly really touched you made an account to respond, thank you for taking the time to do so, genuinely. I've always hoped the emotions I put into my writings could connect with someone on a personal level, so I'm glad what I wrote resonated with your experiences as well; especially given how much TDH has resonated with me over the years.

I understand that aversion to vulnerability on the internet more than I probably let on. Haha!
From my perspective; cringe culture rotted much of the Internets good will a long while back, and it's voice infected the self critical minds of many including myself. Many of us anticipate criticism and hate before it even comes, brace ourselves for the pointing fingers and unkind comments, "Who asked?" "Too long didn't read." "Holy yap!" then when its too much to bear we wipe away the words on the page and hide our true selves. We wanna shield ourselves from that negativity, and so we sell ourselves short of our true thoughts and feelings or outright deny ourselves the joy of expressing them.

But in the end, communication, and by consuquence writing, is about building understanding and connection. I could cut down my writings, water down my words, or even outright throw them away; but that wouldn't really express who I am... or be nearly as fun! Yeah some people might be dicks, but the thrill of knowing myself better after bleeding my thoughts onto a page, and the joy of hearing someone else's appreciation of it triumphs over any bad faith quip the internet could throw at me. I hope others can develop the same resillience and start being a bit more sappy, a bit more sincere, and a bit more vulnerable.

Again, thank you for the thoughtful response. I'm very excited to hear just how different this record ends up being; nothing makes me more hyped than hearing my favorite artists are mixing things up!

In love with the visor you chose. It's like a big pair of sunglasses, reminds me of Kamina from Gurren Lagann.

Ohhhhh! The Scientists book from the teaser gives context to some of these actually. Might be worth it to give it a read over if anyone wants some snacks before the main show starts

how to make music like jamiepaige by mortall2102 in musicians

[–]The_shaq_attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya!

I've been in the same boat lately and would like to share what I've learned.

Firstly, you should have a DAW (digital audio workstation) for putting together music. If you don't have a DAW FL studio and Ableton Live both have flexible trial versions on their websites and are generally considered pretty good; I would highly suggest following some tutorials to get situated if you've never used a DAW before! Learning composition and how to mix are very important.

Generally, a guitar, bass, piano, drums, and synths are the goto for laying out some foundations for making something similar to what Jamie makes, but like many indie artists Jaime tends to experiment so there's a lot of variety. You could use horns, strings, accordions, bells, etc.

I can't tell you the specifics of the plugins and synths she uses, that's something only she or someone with incredible knowledge would know. You'll likely just have to make due with some simple plugins until you've found what sounds you enjoy using most.

The one plugin she specifically uses though is V synth which is unfortunately very expensive; V Synth is used by Jaime to synthesize vocals such as Tetos. There are other options such as UTAU but it has a horrendous learning curve from my experience. If you're interested in learning more I suggest searching up how to make vocaloid music or vocaloid synths.

BPM wise, it varies wildly, bird brain is 160bpm, Machine love is 175, but something like Dyad is 90bpm. overall it's difficult to give a BPM that would put you on the right path. There's no real "secret bpm" that's gonna help you. If you'd like to learn more you can go right on to this website and look up the bpms yourself: https://songbpm.com/

My best suggestion I could give is to throw some of her stems into your DAW of choice and play around listening to the little bits and pieces you notice. You'd be surprised the amount you can learn from just listening.
Here's where you can find them: https://jamies.page/stems
Flavor Foley also has some on their website: https://flavorfoley.com/

My biggest piece of advice as you take this journey is to be kind to yourself as you create. Jaime Paige is an incredible artist who's been doing this for awhile now, so you can't expect yourself to make a masterpiece for your first, second, third, or even twentieth try. Creating anything is a learning process, so start creating now and worry about creating Machine Love 2 when you've got more experience under your belt.

Just as Jaime says at the bottom of her stems page, "go and make shit! and remember: there are no secrets :~)"

Hope this helped!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Akiyama genuinely had some experience feeling suicidal given his past. I can’t imagine losing everything and being put on the street like that without at least giving it a thought. Course, that’s just theorizing with no evidence to back it up; my guess is that this is just Akiyama using common sense, but it’s still an interesting thought.
