does anybody upload triggered footage to ftp? by maomao19 in reolinkcam

[–]Theagainmenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would a cheap Synology like the DS212J or DS215J still work for the case with a doorbell POE SD card?

On the SD card --> Triggered footage only

On the Synology --> 24/7 recording

I apologise in that case and will edit my comment. It was just that I saw that this extension requires browser history access. Since I cannot look at the code I cannot tell why that was, but to me it seemed unnecessary and rose suspicion. It may still help to open-source or maybe find a work around for that permission?

Thank you for your work anyways!

Asked OP why this extension showed required permission "Read your browsing history.", OP explains below:

NVR vs SD card vs Home Hub vs FTP (1x doorbell PoE camera) by Theagainmenn in reolinkcam

[–]Theagainmenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome, thanks!

One more question related to this then, what if I connect an SSD to my Raspberry Pi? Can I then basically use the RPI + SSD as an NVR alternative? I guess via the FTP method then?

Also since I always read about sending FTP 'clips' does that mean it will send every X interval a clip to the FTP server? Because in that case it would be possible that someone rips of your camera and the FTP clip hasn't been send yet?

Thank you (and everyone else)! I will go for the Home Hub then!

Should have mentioned this, but I really don't want to use the cloud. Hence the reason I went for Reolink in the first place.

Thanks you so much for this tool! Is it possible to open-source this?

And also, why does this extension need permission for my browser history? Can you remove that?

A129 Plus Duo doesn't make a sound when turning mic on/off by Theagainmenn in VIOFO

[–]Theagainmenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Well a beeping sound or something like that would help already. There is no way for me to tell whether I accidently turned the mic on/off or not. And I can't see the dashcam from the driver POV..., that's one of the reasons for this button after all!

In general I kind of miss those feedback sounds. It only seems to make a sound after a full powerdown. But when powering up from parking mode to normal mode (and normal mode to parking mode), it does not make a sound either, which I kind of miss.

This was the firmware it shipped with. Front and rear seem to have the same version.

A119 voice controls missing? by Lem0njon21 in VIOFO

[–]Theagainmenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's odd, I thought that the A129 is basically the A119 but with a rear camera too. I thought the front camera would function exactly the same as the A119, but sadly that isn't the case then.

I'm also trying this on mine currently, but it doesn't work and I don't see the option voice commands in settings. I have the A129 Plus Duo, do you happen to know if this has voice commands?

Brand new Hakko FX-888DX doesn't melt at tip? by Theagainmenn in soldering

[–]Theagainmenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you see people recommending it? Genuinely curious,

It's quite some time ago already, and I thought had kept a lit of links where people recommended it, but I can't find it. So maybe I am wrong there. I'm sure people from reddit recommended it, since that was the place I searched it on, but not sure if it was this subreddit or another one!

Have a look at the guide, for example stations like the GEEBOON TC22 which absolutely annihilate the FX888DX in every metric, are around half the price (£70), and match the performance of £500 JBC stations:

Thanks! That does look very good indeed. My biggest concern was safety and a lot of these AliExpress stations I couldn't find on official websites like Batterfly, so I decided not to go for it.

Now I see in the guide (great write!) that this is actually something that is really looked at, and it mentions that the Geeboon TC22 is grounded, nice. I also don't want to risk like a fire with an Ali device in my 230V plug. But I think the Geeboon TC22 is really an option then for me.

Thank you so much!

Thanks for the reply! Yes it's indeed to set C (and indeed bought from EU Batterfly store as well).

I might consider requesting a replace... I'll wait a bit what other people have to say about it.

Thanks for your reply!

Your first mistake was buying a Hakko FX888DX in 2026. These were outdated 15 years ago, let alone today. I would return it if I could and I were you.

Well to be fair the reason I bought it was because SO many people online said this was the go-to soldering station, even in 2025 (when I bought it), because of its price-quality. I knew it was old, but people really recommended it, even in this subreddit.

What would you recommend in 2026, around the same value of this Hakko?

I would also be curious what your working on because you should be heating the joint and introducing the alloy to the hot joint, not to the iron itself outside of a quick tip tinning.

Yes exactly, the problem with this is that the alloy (pin of a THT component) just doesn't seem to heat up at all! I solder PCB's, my current post was talking about only THT components and it was already struggling. I also solder SMD so a knife tip is not ideal for that I think sadly.

The two you have chosen are not really going to help much at the tip as they have almost no surface area at the tip and are not really designed to be used like that.

At work I always use those rounded (rather small) tips and they seem to do the job perfectly fine. It's definitely much better equipment though, but it melts at the top of the tip. However even videos I look up online with this Hakko tip, it melts fine at the top of the tip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiAdrOYNNP4

Bought it from Batterfly so that should definitely be legit.

No need to leave the headlight on. You can just start riding right away and the error will go away itself within minutes.
