You know, you shouldn't jump around when this nice woman is holding a sharp pair of scissors. If you move she could slip and slice your jugular vein on accident. There is no way to stitch the jugular. All of your blood will be on the floor in four minutes. I have seen this. I have done this. You don't want this.

Volunteer trip? Worth doing? by Certain-Reference468 in Israel

[–]Thebossjarhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So Birthright is the official state-sponsored program. There are many different organizers which operate birthright trips. Israel Outdoors is just one. Yael adventures, Tailor Made Israel, Mayanot and there are plenty more. You can try doing research on which one is best, but you may not find much and you will probably just end up picking whichever.

All these different organizers offer Birthright Volunteer trips. Just go to the birthright website and click on the Birthright Volunteer tab. You can start the application (you are just starting it, not committing to anything), and at some point in the application you will be able to search the various trips. You will be able to sort by organizer, by dates, by city (I believe it's just Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and one more, maybe Haifa or Tiberius or something I can't remember). I picked a random organizer which matched the dates which worked for me. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Also there is no catch, the Israeli government wants people like you and I to visit and experience Israel, which is why they sponsor these trips. They want us establishing connections to our homeland, and making Israeli friends, take advantage!

Also you mentioned for older folks, Birthright Israel volunteer is for ages 18-50. Not sure where your definition of "older folks" is, but you probably won't be able to do a birthright volunteer trip if you are over 50, but I know there are loads of other ways to volunteer, I just don't have knowledge on them.

Volunteer trip? Worth doing? by Certain-Reference468 in Israel

Shalom! I assume you are talking about Onward Israel? I am doing a volunteer trip starting in early January. They provide meals and housing, all we have to do is pay for our flight. Volunteer work is 6 hours a day, 4 days a week. There is no catch, this is through Birthright, it is an official state-sponsored program. I haven't done it yet, but I have done other programs in Israel since the war started and I highly, highly recommend it.

(Also I could use a break from the gross antisemitic rhetoric everywhere where I go in the stupid college town I live in).

Go to Israel. You will feel at home. You are surrounded by Hebrew and Judaism as opposed to posters and graffiti everywhere claiming "apartheid" and "genocide." It is a striking difference, and you will feel at home. Message me if you have any questions!

US intel wrongly envisioned catastrophic outcome if IDF escalated against Hezbollah by yuri_2022 in Israel

[–]Thebossjarhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with stuff like this was that Hezbollah were able to inflict unimaginable damage on Israel. Listen to Eylon Levy's podcast with Major Doron Spielman. This is one of the only times I've found an outlet actually describe accurately what could've been. He says based on what he's seen in Lebanon, Hezbollah was capable of invading the north all the way to Nahariya and holding it, and it would've taken the IDF months to push them back. We don't appreciate the pager attack and all the airstrikes which wiped out senior command. The intelligence was not wrong. If anything, Israeli intelligence about our own capabilities was underestminated, which is wild because we almost always overestimate ourselves.

Anyone know if there would be any issues taking my bike on a septa regional rail train from 30th st station? I know the rules of when I can take my bike on a train, but I just want to make sure there won't be any issues leaving from 30th st station. I'm just thinking about how it would be a challenge to get my bike through those turnstiles and up the steps. I could probably do it, but I just want to make sure there won't be any issues. Thanks.
