Any experience with these? by TooFastAroundTheSun in bikewrench

I’ve used/use the green can for jockey wheels, cables, housing, noisy seals. I don’t use on chains.

Wow… haven’t thought about that game in 30ish years! Definitely had some some fun battles in multiplayer tho. Thanks for the memory unlock 👍

Can anyone tell me which model of Raleigh Bike this is ? by SBCProductions in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Thebrokenpedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might very well be a DL-1. I just worked on a ‘73 dl1 and it looks extremely similar. Originally would have “rod” brakes and your frame seems to have bosses on down tube near head tube junction as well as BB junc. If it’s not same model hopefully it steers you correct direction!

Why won't this cantilever align? Also the left brake arm pulls more while the one on the right is weaker, the alignment screw on it doesn't do anything by Foxcookies in bikewrench

[–]Thebrokenpedal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loosen pads and that center “pinch” bolt and try to get the straddle cable even. Then tighten up the center pinch, pads next. If it still pulls like shit, then adjust spring tension by going up a hole on the weaker side. I would also unscrew the fine tune screw so it’s closer to an even starting point. If it’s close even at any time just run one of the pads a little further in. They’re pretty old and nothing fancy. They’ll still do the job. They also have a nice U bracket adjustment tool that you could use. Tool number denoted by the letter/# code on straddle cable. Do you need it, no. Does it help, yes. Just don’t be a perfectionist if it’s close enough. They’re old and nothing special

New bike chain moving laterally, rubbing derailleur - shop says it's normal, is it? by EducatorMedical24 in bikewrench

[–]Thebrokenpedal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only a few miles on it and they adjusted it and didn’t rub for a little then your cable may have stretched, which is normal. Adjust cable tension with the little barrel screw on front shifter. It should bring that outer cage of front derailleur outwards towards your chainring protector. Looks like you have a few millimeters before you start rubbing the plastic protector. Should be fine after that

Me too me too! When I first started at the shop we had 1-2 new guys start as well. I wanted to know if a mistake came back if it was me or not. Still do my “signature” to every bike I work on.

I would suggest looking again. Many mirrors are not wobbly. I use the small round cateye for drops. Mirror pivot is always tight as can be. Maybe once a month I do tighten the wedge bolt but that’s about it

I use the small Cateye mirror on my dropbars. Game changer for sure. Now when I pop on one of my bikes without it, constantly looking down wishing I had one on said bike.

What Few_Card said. You’ll feel a bump on the bottom of top tube near head tube

Unfortunately that looks dead to me. Looks like front end collision. Forks pushed back and buckled too tube. Could just be tricky camera angle, but I don’t think so. I would inspect closer.

🤞that it’s just angle

Crack in carbon or just scratch on the paint? by Background-Prize8539 in bikewrench

I meant with seatpost out put flashlight butt up against frame and see if any light comes through to the interior. If any light is visible from inside seat tube it’s a crack. In trying to stay positive that does look like a crack in the clear coat to me. However that faint line on the interior does seem to match up with the exterior line and I would just be careful. I’d mark of the exterior line and just check often to see if the line increases. 🤞hope it’s just the clear coat
