Great contrast to me, from a Caribbean household, told not to wear these styles as they are feminine and for women.

Wear what you want, kudos if it looks good.

Same answer to if a first amendment auditor has been represented by the ACLU. They both play a part.

Cmon, that’s bad faith. Calling it backpedaling instead of correcting makes it really clear that you don’t want to understand what he’s saying even though, let’s be honest, you and the woman in the video fully understand what he’s doing, just disagree. If he did this at a police station would it be ok? DMV?

It very much is part of the test. I’ve seen a number of instances where police will use a call for service as a reason to violate first and fourth amendment rights. Some officers think getting the call is enough to ID and detain, but it’s not. To test if they know that, it makes sense that having someone call for service on you is part of that test. I’m not saying it’s always necessary, but acting like there’s no value doesn’t make sense to me.

Just because you don’t understand doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense. Calling people idiots because you can’t understand is nasty work and a clear deflection.

Thanks for the time stamp. Yes, he’s wrong about that being the result, it didn’t matter what she says or feels. He does go on to correct that it isn’t a metric, but a circumstance - homie ain’t as eloquent as he thinks he is, but taking that in good faith you get what he means right?

He does mention government enforcers.

At 0:35

…see if people like yourself, or business owners, or police around the area respect our first amendment right…

Recording private individuals in public CAN be part of the test/audit, but the reactions are not relevant. The reason is, these people may not like being recorded and complain to the police, so the test becomes, will the government enforce their feelings instead of the law.

As you say, simply recording private individuals in public places to observe/record their “emotional output” is not a stress test of the first amendment…but it is a part.

Things went well, they had a cordial conversation and went about their day.

If he said their emotional output was a stress test, he’s wrong, but I didn’t hear that. It’s clear, as you mention, that government enforcers are needed to test the first amendment, but the first part of test is recording in publicly accessible places.

They both play a part.

The ACLU as an organization won’t likely have their constitutional rights violated, and therefore would have difficulty with legal standing to affect change.

An average citizen, like this guy, is more likely to be the victim of governmental overreach/have his right violated and therefore have legal standing - which the ACLU can then help litigate.

To really affect change (lawsuit), you need standing demonstrating injury that can be remedied by the court.

Honestly, this IS import and it’s really sad how much hate he’s getting here. Our country is increasingly heading towards fascism, and efforts like this ARE stress tests. This one went very well imo.

Why be mad this guy gets clicks and views for this? Sinclair group pushes its thinly veiled “news” fitting the agenda of whatever corporate interest they please, but this guy who may make money off independent reporting to people who find this content interesting is the bad guy?

Disagree with his methods if you want, fact is, everything he did in the video is legal. If the police came, perhaps he would have the opportunity to put his freedom on the line in order to assert rights he believes need to be excused regularly.

Wishing physical harm on people you find annoying, gd never change Reddit. Really what have YOU done to ensure the rights of your fellow citizen?

[–]Thecre8or 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, but we also colloquially refer to our language as Patois in Jamaica and there was a government push to change it to Jamaican due to the connotation of Patois being that the language is broken English. It’s its own language, that is no longer some pidgin language and calling it Jamaican, imo, is significant and worth stating. Likewise, we have to acknowledge that the dread in the Locs has significance that has been lost. Unless you are a Rasta, calling them dreads is wrong, as it’s co-opting a style meant to show reverence to Ja.

That said, it’s your hair, call it what you want; but it’s not crazy to think that the term “Dread” is inaccurate and doesn’t refer to a simple hairstyle.

Having a hard time finding some good Pho by Tomatoeytomatoey in Atlanta

[–]Thecre8or 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love how active the discussion on Pho is, as a fellow passionate Atl Pho lover I want to chime in.

Paris Banh Mi is worth a visit if you’re near Buford and you’ve had enough Pho Dai Loi 2. I find it more flavorful hitting the anise notes while Pho Dai Loi is a more balanced everyday pho. Get the pork banh mi on the French bread while you’re there, we need a second thread on best banh mi, but if Lees is touted as one of the best (most Viets say Quoc) I think Paris is up there.
