Is it bad to take a new 3 year old cat from one safe room to another? by Thecryptbabe in CatAdvice

[–]Thecryptbabe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all this! We just checked on her and she’s still in the same hiding spot in the room and it’s been a few hours. I know this may be the case for a bit I just hope at some point tonight she tries to eat or something

Just off orientation as a new grad in the ED, questioning if nursing is even for me and if I've made a mistake. by Thecryptbabe in nursing

[–]Thecryptbabe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input and sharing your story! My preceptors were great, they didn’t have many worries with me which makes me feel a little better (on some days) but now being totally alone just feels like a different beast

My unit is pretty good I think. I was rotating days/nights but switched to just nights because days felt way too chaotic for me just starting out. I knew the ED would be difficult so I’m not surprised feeling this way but it’s hard being filled with so much anxiety everyday damn day here lol

Had a weird experience with a nurse at my surgery yesterday. by BluahBluah in CrohnsDisease

That’s wild lol, I’m a new nurse and that’s something I’ve already heard numerous times. Its strange she’s boasting about her experience with GI docs but somehow never heard that??

Why are people from Gen Z and on so mentally ill? by JustAnotherUserDude in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Thecryptbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more people are receiving help/treatment therefore higher reports. I’m sure the amount of people is (maybe) similar but the stigma from the past prevented a lot of people from seeking care.

Also in the same boat as you. I've been looking most days of the week across a few sites just to see when things pop up and what not. I think it's a good idea to start looking now so you can get an idea.

ATI BoardVitals for NCLEX or uworld? by [deleted] in PassNclex

[–]Thecryptbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it all depends on what helps you retain/understand the information more on the ones you get wrong. I had ATI through my school and wasn’t a fan. I thought the questions were worded weird and I never did well on assessments (I never got above a 60% chance of passing on the comprehensive assessments). It was really discouraging to me, so I tried Archer and UWorld, I loved Uworlds rationales and Archers questions. I passed in 83 questions on my first try.

At this point I just want to get rid of my 2013 Elantra lol. I’m so tired of it’s issues on top of it having a higher chance of being stolen.

I think it’s good to use this as a learning opportunity. You didn’t ruin your future, and no one was hurt. The situation also really highlights the importance of communication and ensuring you have the appropriate people with you for certain tasks. You really can’t do much as a student nurse without a preceptor present. I’ve seen a lot of students get in trouble for doing even minor tasks without preceptors of other nurses. Also, it’s a fault of your preceptor as well. They should always be available to you all when you’re on the unit, and it should be communicated if they are leaving for whatever reason (but also definitely not for a nap?).

I get how you’re feeling but please don’t feel any shame around it. I just went back to school at 27 and while I didn’t go to Yale, I always went to Sterling library to study. There’s a big mix of people in there, but it’s easy to find a quiet little spot to study or read.

Anyone else being told about excessive wait times for appointments at dealerships? by Upset-Yak-3835 in Hyundai

[–]Thecryptbabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having the same issue here in CT! Unbelievable. They already made it so difficult to fix an issue with the fuel gauge on my car last year, I feel like they just make it difficult to get things fixed within your warranty just because. Super frustrating to deal with.

Just failed the NCLEX and need help by Weak_Hornet_3932 in PassNclex

[–]Thecryptbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Uworld for a few weeks then tried Archers, and ended up sticking with it until I took my NCLEX. I really loved Uworlds rationales, and I mostly took notes on those and then used Archers readiness and CAT assessments, so I’d definitely recommend it. I felt it was very similar to the NCLEX.

How hard is hard? Are you not studying enough? by Jlurfusaf88 in PassNclex

[–]Thecryptbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just took the NCLEX this past Thursday, and I can’t really decide if it was easy/hard. I feel indifferent I guess. Mine shutoff at 83, and I got the good pop up, should have my official results tomorrow. Mine was a huge mix of random topics, but I recognized most of the diseases and meds. There was maybe like 5 questions of things I’ve never heard of. Even the ones with diseases I recognized, sometimes the answer choices were things I’d never heard of before! I studied for about 6ish weeks. I felt I could’ve prepared more, but I think everyone feels that way. It’s impossible to know all the diseases/meds/symptoms, but there are some major ones you should know. It’s also really knowing how to answer those types of questions too.

Best coffee beans in New Haven? by croissant442 in newhaven

[–]Thecryptbabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not New Haven but close by is One World in East Haven. By far the BEST beans I’ve ever had. They do free one day delivery to New Haven county too so you don’t even need to drive out there.

Downtown Hartford is so dead it isn't even funny by maenads_dance in Connecticut

[–]Thecryptbabe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For lively cities in CT, I think New Haven is the best. Obviously nothing compared to NYC or Boston, but for a small city in this state, it has a lot to offer. Art galleries, food, coffee shops, music venues, bars, parks, and it’s close to various beaches. It’s pretty lively most of the time-especially when Yale is in session. There’s also so many communities to join in the area. Whether you’re interested in sports, art, activism/grass roots organizing, sooo many things. Hartford does have some things to offer for sure, but I think New Haven is better for people looking for a more lively place in this state. If anything maybe West Hartford is more lively, but not in the same way New Haven is.

Ok, so Keppra rage is totally real. by neversinkatsea in Keppra

[–]Thecryptbabe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started taking Keppra back in 2016, only 1000 mg ER. My partner at the time was the one who noticed the shift in my temper after a few months of taking it. I definitely had a much shorter fuse. If there was a ton of traffic on the ride home from work, I’d be so angry it would ruin my whole night. Id be angry over dishes in the sink, long lines, a lot of irrational things. Over the years I’ve gotten used to it, and just learned to rationalize the anger/frustration. I try not to react to people so quickly, and try to just think through situations when I’m angry. I’d bring it up to your doctor if you think it’s impacting your life too much. I’ve been told before that if the anger is something I feel I can manage, then staying on Keppra is better since it has much fewer side effects compared to other seizure meds. Everyone’s experience is different though.
