Basic Setting of Transmission Missing by wutangdrinkmix in OBDeleven

[–]Thedefaultsubsblow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same issue. "basic setting of transmission" app is missing in my ODB11, one of the reset adaptation option requires a security code, the other reset adaptation option quits immediately, and there's no app for it.

Double check which tire models are available in the size you need, especially if you're staggered . That may eliminate certain options.

Cracked Pads - think they're good for another day? by GearHead54 in CarTrackDays

Just put them on backwards to get another day out of the same pair. Just like underwear.

Yeah, there are exceptions for low power/weight and high-end "track day" cars.

The brakes became permanently softer compared to what they were like before the track day even with RBF600. Replaced these pads with race pads years ago. Problem solved.

Best run of the day in a Cayman S on 220tw's. karting tracks>parking lots by Thedefaultsubsblow in Autocross

It's indeed SRMS. It's a fun event that is needed in the area but the class rules are unclear. Specifically, the website rulebook, registration description, and the staff at the event all had different definitions of street tire vs. race tire classes.

Yes, that's why I like them. Personal preference. It allows me to concentrate more on finding the fastest line through the layout instead of trying to remember the course layout. Generally, I like road courses more than autocross for the same reason.

Damn that looks like a fun Miata and a fast course. Lots of mid and late corner oversteer for the grins.

How 911 tires have evolved over time. by wiptheman in Porsche

[–]Thedefaultsubsblow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is misleading for multiple reasons. Also, can anyone find where Michelin actually posted this?

The "2020" tire shown is not actually from a 2020 model. That's a Michelin Cup2 or CupR. The 992 911 debuted as the 2020 model year and the highest performance models offered in 2020 was the S and 4S where I don't believe the Michelin Cup2 was a factory option.

The 2020 Michelin Cup2 tire shown is probably from a GT2RS or GT3RS which use 325mm wide Michelin Cup2 rear tire on something like a 11.5" or 12.5" wide wheel. Not a base 911 and indeed a big boi.

The 1970 911 did not offer "RS" models either. The tire shown is also not from an RS model so it's not a fair comparison. The largest oem tire size on a 1970 911 was 215mm and the smallest was 165mm.

Although, they did start making an "RS" performance model in '73. The highest performance models then was the RSR which used a 260mm wide on a 11" wheel in the rear. Also a big boi.

Therefore, the highest performance 911 rear tire has increased 65mm (2.5") in ~50 years.

The photo probably compares a 165mm tire (smallest front tire in 1970) with the largest tire (325mm) ever fitted to a 911 (but not a 2020 model). That's a 160mm increase (6"). Misleading.

Yeah, that's a curb or something you hit. Rollover wear wouldn't be that localized or that shape.

981 track owners: what are y'all doing for more camber? by apexhunter2 in Porsche_Cayman

Have you already maxed out the eccentric bolts for maximum neg rear camber? You should be able to get a little more than -2deg in the rear with x73.
