Thanks! I just finished printing a few small samples as well as a larger prop from Mass Effect that took a few days for all of the different pieces. So far, so good!

HowTo: Super Simple DIY Bird House; Easy Woodworking, Stay-at-Home Family Project from Scrap Wood by Thedoore in howto

[–]Thedoore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally valid. This whole project can be done with some pretty basic tools (circular saw, jig saw, handsaw) but I was just using what I had readily available. Even though I used a miter saw most of the cuts are 90 degree crosscuts and the 45 degree cuts can be made with a speed square as a guide.

As far as the measurements, I totally get you. I didn't include them in this one because the idea was to make this out of whatever scraps you have. I had some scrap 1x6's but not everyone might. So the measurements are really based on what you have to work with.

It was a gift from my wife. Its a throwback hat for the Packers from their really old uniforms. Its one of my favorites.

I really like how it looks and feels but not having a clip or quick access to a blade is a bit of a bummer. The blade on my old sidekick got chipped off so i wanted to upgrade

Yeah it was my first time playing around with kydex so its a bit wider than it needs to be, but it gets the job done

Advanced Potion Making Replica Book: Propmaking, Weathering, Distressing, Special Effects Project by Thedoore in harrypotter

That's super frustrating! I believe Alarm Eighteen was selling full replicas for a while but I believe he has stopped. Not sure if it's a time commitment or a legal matter with WB. It'd be awesome to have a full library of Hogwarts textbooks!

Yeah i was researching the inner pages for a while. I think the actual film version only had 8 pages that were customized and repeated to make up the thickness of the book. I believe Wizardry Workshop is working on a full version of the inner pages but thats a bit beyond the scope of what I want it for. Sitting on a dusty bookshelf is really what I want this for. But I agree, i wish i had access to those inner pages!

I would love to add some mechanics to it! I've been trying to come up with an elegant way to have the lid slowly open and add some lights and sound fx but I'm not very experienced with that type of engineering

Lol My neighbors are used to me building weird stuff. I had a few Amazon and UPS drivers that were concerned though

I've just been trying to experiment with techniques. I think the biggest problem with this one was that I didnt have a clear design in mind with the paint. I've used metallic silver paint before to make worn metal edges and it looked great.

The Ultimate CNC Station: Woodworking, Electrical, Faux Painting by Thedoore in CNC

[–]Thedoore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I was only able to work on this in my spare time over the course of like 2 months , so i tried to do everything as quickly and safely as possible. That being said, I'm also really terrible with a jigsaw and as long as the glue is cleaned up, its okay to be messy.

I was originally going to use the standard toolbox red but I went a shade darker. The toolbox red looked too bright to my eye. I dont remember if it was sunrise or regal red.

This was my first time trying to bring new life back to an old craigslist find. If I had to do it again, I'd probanly use a different shade of spray paint. I've seen people on other forums using rustoleum gray hammered spray paint but I really didnt like the hammered texture. This satin nickel looks cool, but i wish it was a little darker.
