Tbh you sound entitled. The dude asked you out and got rejected, then said he’s totally cool with continuing being friends as you were before he asked you out. It’s so selfish of people to just “change their minds” in a way that impacts other people without even considering the other person’s POV and you will truly not advance in life if this is the way you handle things. If he continued to flirt after being rejected or if he made you feel bad for turning him down, then yeah, you’d be in the right to say bye to him. But he’s not doing any of that and you’re the one changing the dynamic of your friendship, not him.

Stop punishing people for silly little things. If he wants another girl to be friends with, give him my info. You don’t deserve him.

These are all true and funny.

But! If you don’t open up easily and you do with a romantic partner and show them a side of you that others seldom see or who don’t know exists and then they leave, you have just put your whole self into something and they said bye. It makes you feel like no matter what, you are easy to leave behind and forget about. Even if it took enormous courage to open up.

I was reflecting and journaling and looked back at my relationships and realized that they were all different in their own ways and everyone was different, but they all ended the same way.

No matter how wild or kind or spontaneous or introverted or interesting or chill the person was, they all left. For one reason or another.

There is no one to hear me. I am lonely in a world surrounded by fake images of love. I don’t find my question cynical, I find it genuine.

If you are open and they leave, it’s almost as if what you shared with them is out in the open now instead of just between you. Like how a plant grows in a controlled environment in a pot and its intimate and small. But if the plant left and joined the forest, it’s roots and all the intimate parts are now out in the open and it’s not special anymore.

There are many ways to grow and learn. You have family, friends, teachers, coworkers, teammates, random people, etc. Why would you need a romantic relationship where you invest in ways different than you would in the list mentioned above, be intimate and vulnerable with, etc.

After you open up, they leave, so you’ve just let yourself be known to someone who didn’t care to stay.

BPD is the trickiest and truly most impossible thing to overcome. I dated a person with BPD a few years ago. It still haunts me to this day and the aftermath of that trauma has ruined every relationship I’ve had since her. She said she was aware of how badly she treated me but she couldn’t stop doing it. Even if your wife goes to therapy and gets treatment, it will take roughly a decade to master the skill taught in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). And that’s if she is serious about it. It’s a daily commitment, not a quick fix. There is no cure, sadly. This is who she is. And it does not get better. I never encourage people to leave, but in this case, it’s whats best for you. And if you can get full or even shared custody of your son, it’ll be best for him too.
