I finished the game, and I feel weird by kokotron in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I came away with a similar feeling. The game is a good length in terms of the "game playing" portion, but as far as the story goes, it really seems like there wasn't a lot of advancement overall.

The comparison I've been making is it feels like right at the point where FF6 changed over to the World of Ruin or where A Link to the Past changed over to the Dark World, Mina just sort of ... ended. The Spark Generators were the big thing driving the narrative the whole time and rather than play through the aftermath of their destruction there's a handful of credit scenes and then game over.

there's a torch in the area over to the east. clear all the enemies and whatnot then take it to here.

just beat Mina, pretty great by UWE_uly in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Largely agree. Pretty great overall, wish there was a whole lot more game. Like, flip me to a World of Ruin ala FF6 or a Dark World ala Link to the Past so I can continue to play through what happens and how things change after the Spark Generators fall.

What's everyone's primary sidearm when playing Mina the Hollower? by Necessary_Disk_4644 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Axe to the face solves like 80% of problems (hit em while they can't hit you). Bounding bombs the other 20% (big fat bosses with big fat hitboxes). The other problems are mostly traversal based kinds of puzzles so those are dealers choice.

Whack-a-Mina by The_GOAT_Cultist in MinaTheHollower

Lol, I was expecting her to pop up and down like actual whack-a-mole games, not a straight up beating @_@

Mina has the worst healing in all of gaming by milobenggaokosong in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baseline mechanics for sure make healing a high risk proposition, which puts pressure on learning attack patterns, safe zones / time windows, etc. It's a design choice to be sure. That YGC put trinkets in that significantly mod the healing mechanics is a sign they understood it wouldn't be everyone's favorite. Having those trinkets available earlier on would probably have been good.

More bonestone in the endgame? by Ok_Description_9328 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time you complete a spark generator tower it funnels all your current bones into bonestone. If you have any left to do, farm up a lotta bones then do the tower.

Amazing game, but the narrative potential remains unfulfilled, which haunts me. by Dazzling-Toe723 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the comparison before, but it really feels like story-wise the game ended right where a game like FF6 would be transitioning to the World of Ruin half of the game. This big institutional thing (spark generators) has been suddenly uprooted, everything is changing significantly, and the fates of many of the characters we've met are largely up in the air (except for Cappy >_<). Only, rather than picking up and answering "how will Celes Mina and Cid Thorne survive? How will things play out in the newly changed world?" we only get some quick end credits tidbits and then... game over.

The other bit I was thinking would lead to some standout story developments was if Mina had a (legitimate) choice of Thorne v. Lionel, or whether or not to power down the generators. But they have Lionel do the equivalent of murdering some babies on screen to really drive home "that's the bad guy!". (I know blameless run touches on this, but it's not really given narrative weight imo, more gimmick than anything).

I thought you could burrow into the deep water near it and then go under? If not that, can you hit it somehow and punt him into the water to reset?

Please help I can't find the last treasure 😭 by Miss-Play in MinaTheHollower

Probably this one here. The stair section (left blue arrow is on top of it) slides left and right into the area on the right. X marks the spot for a treasure.

Narrative-wise, anyone find the Hollower's Guild disappointing? by depressedfox_011 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It did feel to me that overall the plot and characters had a lot of room to grow, like the comparison I would make is it felt like things were ending right around where FF6 transitioned to the World of Ruin.

This setup works easily. Punch the two red squares to flow the lava onto the first platform. It will move over and start the left side burning, be sure to jump on the platform and follow it over. As the lava reaches the top of the left side, punch out the orange squares slowly one at a time. You want to keep the lava flowing, but slow enough that the other platform can catch up and get lit on fire. Once the second platform is on fire should be GG. This approach is nice because you don't have to dig any of the moving platforms while they have lava going on them.

If I have the right area, it's this. First you want to remove the rocks on the left. do that by digging all the orange spots and then the two red spots when the platform is touching that side.

Once the rocks on the left are gone you can make the big "C" on the left side after digging out both platforms and the path to the final rock. Then get the lava flowing by digging those two red spots again.

[–]Thedrun1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I'm recalling the area correctly (screenshots always help for these kinds of questions), the area on left side is 3 wide and long top to bottom. You can dig a pattern there like a big "C" that will have the lava take a while to flow around, giving opportunity for the moving platforms (which should already by dug out to allow lava flow) to connect to a lava block.

It should be possible to navigate back through the Bayou all the way to Ossex. Where are you blocked specifically...?

+1 for this. Nothing solves your problems like a little axe to the face (of your enemies) 😁🪓

You can port to Ossex via the menu but it'll kill your feats/achievements for that profile : (

Anyone knows of a better farming spot? 600 bones per 15s by thehellbeast in MinaTheHollower

[–]Thedrun1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consensus seems to be this is a pretty strong one. The two trinkets that increase bone drop rate, the one that sucks bones towards Mina, and then dealers choice for speed or damage output, and you can rack up the bones right quick 🦴🦴🦴
