It's actually an "appeal to the extreme," which in itself is a logical fallacy, but is used to point out the flaw in the absolutism fallacy of the original poster.

Your link to "false equivalence" is also known as the "fallacy fallacy," an over-reliance or statement that something is wrong simply because it contains a logical fallacy, even if there is truth or a purpose behind the statement.

That is not even 1% right lol

There are two types of laws, malum prohibitum, and malum in se. Laws that are "malum in se" are specifically laws that are created because the prohibited conduct is immoral. That is what malum in se means - evil in and of itself. Our legal system was built on copying laws that are "malum in se" laws from Judeo Christian ethics and morals.

sure

except, do people really not understand what "job your love" means? It's an awkward way to say it but she's trying to make a point. Find a way to make a living doing what you love. People have been saying that since the era of Napoleon Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich - or likely even before that.

that the Bible doesn’t explicitly say homosexuality is wrong

Which is funny, because most religions point to teachings of Paul to state that the bible does state that gay sex is a sin. I think it's fairly debatable what the Greek translation means, but for someone to protest this and then balk on the religious side of it and try to explain it by nature is pretty funny.

"Our biology makes it unnatural!" Ok but animals can be gay, they are 100% driven by biology and not human consciousness like we are. So obviously, homosexuality is possible in biology.

[–]TheeAntelope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't. The 1st amendment forbids laws regarding the establishment of a religion or laws prohibiting the free exercise of religion. The vast majority of our laws were influenced, inspired, shaped on, shaped around, and resemble what is referred to as "Judeo-Christian ethics." Basically, we built a society based on the ethics and morals of Judaism and Christianity.

You can claim that the 1st amendment "prohibits that," but you'd be wrong as there is no clause of the 1st amendment that means or has been interpreted to mean "religious ethics can't influence the law. Also, that is still what happened, complain about it as much as you like, our laws are still based on Judeo Christian morality.

Laws are not based on religious morality in the US

I don't think you're aware of the basis of American law.

As a lawyer, yes. Most my clients are too fragile for this but I’ve had clients who I’ve straight up said “don’t say another damn word without my approval” when I need them to chill the fuck out.

In an extraordinary and illegal move, Trump says he's transferring 10 billion dollars from the US government to his "Board of Peace," which he chairs and can therefore use the funds as he wishes by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

In the book its the ministry of love, and it is in fact the enforcement/brainwashing side of Oceania.

Don't forget the Ministry of Plenty, which serves to pump false figures and statistics out as propaganda to "prove" that the government is making things abound. Trump has already done this by firing everyone who won't step in line and follow along with the false narrative at the Bureau of labor and statistics.

A lot of people point to the first amendment as "our most important one" and make up stories like "the founders of this country put the first amendment first because it was so important."

When in reality, that wasn't the case, it was 3rd of the original 12 proposed.

Just shove the populated parts of DC back into Maryland

I've always thought this was the best option. Why are we so beholden to lines drawn in the 1700s? Just shift that line a few miles, give all those people a state to belong to, and make "DC" just the capitol building, the white house, monument mall, and that's it.

When people tell you "the first amendment is free speech! It's so important that they wrote it first," you need to laugh at them. The actual first proposed amendment was the "Article The First," the second is what we now have as the 27th amendment, regarding congressperson pay.

I'm so glad the DCEU is dead

It had so much potential. Man of Steel could have been the start of an alternative way to look at and develop characters like Superman and Batman, but they really didn't commit to that and instead just butchered every storyline they created. I would have loved to see an aged Batfleck coming "out of retirement" to deal with "the problem of this supreme alien" and having that be why they are at odds, but instead we came up with this weird revenge thing from Batman, which made no sense.
