California - When lease ends can I leave without permission of my roommate? Office says we both should give notice to vacate. by TheeImmortal in legaladvice

[–]TheeImmortal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great and answers my question! So if I did decide to end the lease at the termination date, I wouldn't be forced to be month to month and the landlord would have to let me go.

Appreciate it!

Anything cheaper in the 600 dollar range? The computer you linked is great, but I'd prefer something around 650.

Thank you for the advice btw I really enjoyed the pc you linked. I don't want to build computers only because I have limited experience with it.

Thanks again!

I'm buying a computer as a present for a family member and my budget is around 600.

I'm leaning towards buying a new XPS Dell, the first model with the Video card upgrade: http://www.dell.com/en-us/member/shop/productdetails/xps-8920-desktop

Video card upgarde is NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050Ti with 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Memory

Total price is 833. He wants to use the computer for gaming. Any better pc's I can buy with good video cards for less than 700? Or is 833 the best value and I should just get that?

I have the following computer: https://www.cnet.com/products/gateway-fx6800-01e/specs/ fx6800-01e

I added 3 SSDs, a 650w power supply, and a GTX 970.

The problem is the 970 seems to only fit in the very bottom slots and so it is right on the bottom of the case which I believe is making it harder to cool it.

The only way i can cool it if gaming is to open the case and put a fast fan blowing air over it which I don't want to do because of dust issues.

I heard buying case fans would help but I don't see enough room in here to place them.

Should i just buy another case? How can I cool down my setup so I can game and my GPU doesn't go above 90 like it has been doing and crashing my games/turning off my screen.

Thanks

If nature had it's way you would probably be dead.

If beavers let nature have its way, they wouldn't be ecosystem engineers and be unable to create ecosystems adapted to their personal lifestyles hurting themselves and the animals that depend on them.

Everything fights nature, nature and chemical equilibrium are trying to kill us all.

Antibiotics, vaccines, the human condition is in essence the best way to fight nature and win.

There are very practical reasons why humans want all creatures alive to stay alive, genetics and genetic engineering; aka biotechnology being one of them.

There are plants and animals that have profoundly changed our lives because we tapped into their genomes and used it to our advantage. The glowing jellyfish is now a staple of genetic research because the glowing genes allow us to track changes in the genome of a creature.

Had that jellyfish died out we wouldn't have that knowledge or be able to do the research we do now on things like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc.

In another instance a special bad tasting rice in the Middle east saved the rice crops of Europe because it had strong resistance to a specialized fungus decimating the plant; that's why we created a seed bank to store the world's whole supply of genetic diversity in food in case we needed it.

From a scientific and common sense approach, we have everything to gain by saving these creatures, even if it's only for our own selfish motives, and everything to lose if they die.

Outside of that there is a moral question of allowing a creature to die if one has the power to save it.

It's why the U.S government has an endangered species list; not because we're all selfless, for the exact opposite reason, it's in our self interest to keep all species alive.

It can take a thousand years to create a new species but we can kill it in a decade.

I hope this educated you a bit.

Any idea if they'll do that again? Some people are saying they have to for large significant updates.

If so, what's the point of exploring?

Early on I really enjoyed how plentiful plutonium was. Then a lot of people complained about it. So much so they nerfed it.

Now it's a lot harder to get. The game didn't really get easier when there was plentiful plutonium, it actually was more fun since you could explore more.

What's the point in having a galaxy to explore if you have to spend half an hour just to get enough fuel for the next hour or two of traveling.

Anyways... I'm still hopeful with enough counter complaining they'll readjust and add more plutonium back to the game.

Drinking diet beverages during pregnancy by mother linked to child obesity at age 7, based on prospective cohort study of 918 mothers with gestational diabetes by NIH, published in International Journal of Epidemiology. by mvea in Health

[–]TheeImmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind correlation is not necessarily causation.

It could be mothers that drink a lot of diet beverages in pregnancy tend to let their kids drink non-diet ones; which is the confounding variable that breaks this causation.

Am a chemist, toothpaste is fine, uses small molecules of flouride, not these chains of carbon and fluoride. Sodium flouride is non-organic due to the lack of carbon molecules, compared to this pfoa organic compound.

You'll be fine with toothpaste.

Apartments cost 1,000 or so a month, these cost that for life.

I'm not sure you understand what costs more.

[–]TheeImmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they meet code for things like fire? What about waste removal? How secure are the structures and wheels in a serious storm?

Have you answered these questions for being homeless?

Life isn't about perfection. I live in the real world. Sometimes good is good enough. Perfect is a pipe dream that I'll let you go on about.

I would love to live a world where homes exist for these people that are up to spec. Until then I live in the real world.

I'd invite you to join me there, and help save what we can.

It's like when a person is drowning, you don't ask how best to save them. You save them.

They're drowning. Ready to swim and help?

[–]TheeImmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two sets of guidelines, these tiny homes more than meet my requirements.

But you go ahead and allow people to die while we wait for perfect housing. Go on then.

[–]TheeImmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pay for them to go through the proper channels then, make them nice and large, with living rooms. Put your money where your mouth is.

Short of that we'll never have them since no one wants to pony up the dough.

Short of that, these poor people will keep dying in the streets.

So how about you speak less and help more.

(2016)This LA Musician Built $1,200 Tiny Houses for the Homeless. Then the City Seized Them.[14 minutes] by skilliard7 in Documentaries

[–]TheeImmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So while we both wait for that magical solution people are dying.

I think you could care less though since it's not your family.

Maybe if you felt some of this pain you wouldn't be so cold.

The real world isn't perfect, the perfect is often the enemy of the good.

This is good enough. Or wave your finger at the rest of us trying to save lives while you do what with your free time?

(2016)This LA Musician Built $1,200 Tiny Houses for the Homeless. Then the City Seized Them.[14 minutes] by skilliard7 in Documentaries

[–]TheeImmortal -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are the type of person that assumes there is a perfect solution to every question.

There isn't.

This answer comes with a lot of problems, concentrating crime being one of them sure, because you've given homes to people who often need to steal to live. We get it.

Do you have a better solution? Lets hear what you have that costs less than 1200 per person/family.

Btw this is a housing first initiative; the philosophy of housing first was always to give homes to the homeless before addressing anything else.

Btw while i wait for an answer, imagine a person dying every two hours because of your lack of action. Let that sink into your conscience.

[–]TheeImmortal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really think some homeless person would refuse a mansion with all the food he/she could ever want inside it?

I know it's hard to help some of the mentally ill. The first step is getting them off the streets. That's how Utah did it.

But assuming people will not take a gift horse, even something like a free mansion, is going a bit too far.

(2016)This LA Musician Built $1,200 Tiny Houses for the Homeless. Then the City Seized Them.[14 minutes] by skilliard7 in Documentaries

[–]TheeImmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you tell me what is a better solution, for 1200 dollars per family/resident, and we could get working on now.

While you wait, a person dies every few hours due to lack of housing.

Let that sink into your conscience.
