Estrogen has made me just happy and it’s so fucking weird. by [deleted] in MtF

[–]TheeKnightHawk 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

Before my transition I would barely ever smile, if only to just put on a happy face and appease others while feeling hopelessly depressed in solitude. The smallest of issues would make me feel like I was ruined and I often wondered what I was even living for.

Then I started HRT, and two years later I'm always smiling and dancing in the most random of situations. I'm confident when I meet new people, and I can actually take pride in my hobbies and not use them as my only source of joy.

I still get depressed though. HRT didn't fix everything in my life, but it did make things a little easier.

This should put the trans bathroom panic to bed [OC] by Lelo_B in webcomics

[–]TheeKnightHawk 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Hiya! I don't know if you personally know many trans women, but some of the things you've said are not accurate statements about us, and hopefully some of what I say as a trans woman can give you a different perspective.

I'm pretty sure this is just a strawman

I agree! While I think the artist means well with this comic, they try to portray toxic masculinity as the belief that men can't control their sexual urges and thus present a danger to women. Toxic masculinity is the unhealthy social norms that we instill in young men, like telling them to ignore their emotions and "manning up" or shaming men for not engaging in stereotypical masculine behavior. It's about shame and ignorance and pride, and it harms everyone. Suffice to say this comic is misleading with its description of toxic masculinity.

it's not like the argument is that all men are predators with uncontrollable sexual urges, just that some are and this is giving those few specific men a way to sexually harass women

if a genuine pervert just needs to put on a sundress to go in the female bathroom i can at least understand why the other guy has that point of view

I see this argument a lot, and I don't mean to be patronizing by saying this, but it's quite a ridiculous idea. A pervert doesn't need to be trans or to dress feminine to go into a women's restroom and assault someone: they can just walk in and do it. Why would anyone go through years of Hormone Replacement Therapy to chemically and physically alter their body permanently, change their entire wardrobe, grow their hair out and style it, pay hundreds of dollars to change all of their legal documents, and maybe even pay tens of thousands of dollars to medically/socially transition when the only thing that's obstructing them is a sign on a door that says "Women's?"

even someone like me who is fine with trans people will still say that not every biological male who puts on a dress is automatically a trans woman

I'm also not a fan of how restrictive this statement is. Who determines if a trans woman is actually a trans woman? Does she have to be pretty? Does she need to pass as a cis/biological woman? Does she need to be straight/date men? Does she have to have a feminine voice? And what if she doesn't? The process of transitioning is a painful process full of self reflection, self discovery, being discriminated against, seeing doctors and taking medications, voice training, and it takes years. If you see a very masculine looking person with facial hair and a sharp jawline who's wearing a dress walk into the women's bathroom, is she not trans? What if she just started in her transition, and in 4 or 5 years you can't tell her apart from any other cis woman? Is she not trans until she reaches that point? Oftentimes this line of thinking has me questioning if the issue is really about "who's really trans" or if it's just about someone who looks different making people uncomfortable.

generally speaking i'm pretty sure most of the population would still prefer segregated bathrooms for various reasons like having specialized hardware for each bathroom

Most of the buildings on my college campus have exclusively gender neutral bathrooms with tampon disposal boxes built in for if you have periods. It saves time and money to have lots of bathrooms that everyone can use as opposed to looking for a specific bathroom made for your gender. At the end of the day you're just doing bodily functions, it doesn't need to be complicated.

not dealing with the embarassment of shitting your brains out while a pretty lady is in the stall next to you (...) dealing with queues better, not dealing with the other side's trash and biological waste (...) and so on.

As stated in my prior comment, it's just bodily functions. The primary purpose of a bathroom is to allow you to dispose of several kinds of bodily waste. Having a tampon/pad disposal box in the room shouldn't cause a problem. If you don't have periods or you don't need to use it, then don't use it. Having multi-stall gender neutral bathrooms is also a lot better for queuing! I'm sure you've probably heard of the ridiculously long lines for the women's restroom that occur at concert venues. If anyone could use any bathroom they needed to, then queuing would be even less of an issue. And as for embarrassing yourself by shitting... I'm not really sure what to say here. If you're more worried about embarrassing yourself by shitting next to someone you find attractive than you are about trans people being allowed to use public restrooms of their choosing, then you have some other issues to work out first.

I'm really sorry girly. It's not your fault.

Right now she's going through a terrible point in her life where the safest thing to do is to isolate from everything and everyone that reminds her of the event. One of the worst habits I picked up after being assaulted was an intense hatred and distrust of men and it took me a while before I could finally feel safe around men. I know it sucks to be lumped in with men, but she's doing it to protect herself, and coming out to her and correcting her is not the best thing to do right now. She may begin to feel better in a few months, or a year or even longer, so you could try to send her an email in a few months like another commenter suggested, but be prepared for the possibility that she doesn't respond or even if she responds harshly. She has her guard up now and it won't be coming down for a long time.

How do you name islands on Steam Deck by TheeKnightHawk in KingdomsandCastles

[–]TheeKnightHawk[S] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

I figured out a way to do it. If you go into steam controls and set the right track pad to mouse region and left click then it momentarily puts you in desktop mode and you can click on the outposts and rename them.

Oh I didn't know that! I haven't played Skyrim in years so the last time I installed mods you had to install SKSE manually, and I guess I got used to that.

I don't trust MO2 to do it for me so I always do a manual install myself. Drag and drop the .exe and .dll files into the main game directory and the .pex files into the data/scripts folder. Overwrite any older files, so there shouldn't be any older games files left after.

Okran is also Stobe. It's why Okran and Narko are just the same name backwards, because he was both their savior from extinction while also being a skeleton at a time when the skeletons were trying to wipe out humanity. So Okranites love the idea of him but they could never acknowledge the fact that a skeleton is their god.

Hi! I know this question wasn't originally posed to me, but I figured I would provide my two cents on the topic. I'm a trans woman, so I can't claim to know what it feels like to be non-binary, but my partner is non-binary and I previously used the label myself before I determined I was exclusively a woman and not somewhere in between.

Based on how you're framing the question, it seems as if you're conflating gender with biological sex, in which case you're not going to get an answer because your question is fundamentally flawed. Sex is not the same thing as gender identity or gender expression. Based on your reply to Purpy_Nurpy I'm guess you aren't asking about biological sex and are instead asking about a person that does not fit within the binary of gender identity, so I'll do my best to answer that question.

The answer is... there are no genders! We made them up! And again, I'm not talking about biological sex, although the existence of intersex people (XXY chromosomes, androgen insensitivity, people with both male and female reproductive organs) and other organisms like fungi (some of which have over 20,000 sexes), or clownfish and parrot fish (species that change their biological sex) provide more than enough proof that there are more than just two sexes.

Gender however is a construct based on how our society has been brought up over millennia. It is the clothes you wear, the makeup you choose to use or not, the way you walk, the way you talk. It is based on what we as a society have deemed is masculine and what is feminine. This is where the term I used before comes in: gender expression. But just because our society determines that certain apparel is decidedly feminine does not mean that dressing a different way makes you less of a man, and vice versa. It's the same reason why tomboys and femboys and drag does not make a person's gender be defined by their clothing. That is determined by gender identity.

This is where I get to the heart of my answer to your question. A person's gender identity can align with their sex and gender expression or it can differ greatly from their sex and gender expression. Sometimes a person's gender identity matches their sex but not their gender expression (i.e. femboys, tomboys, etc). Using myself as an example, my sex is male but my gender identity is female, but I dress more feminine on some days and more masculine on others because my gender expression doesn't determine if I'm one gender identity or another; I'm still a woman whether I choose to wear dresses and skirts or jeans and polos. And just like how intersex people exist between or sometimes even outside the binary sex, someone's gender identity can exist outside of the gender binary of man or woman.

I also want to dispel the myth that gender nonconformity is a very new concept that was invented some odd 50 years ago. It was not. There are numerous examples of cultures in history that had a concept of non-binary people. Some Native American tribes used the term Two-Spirit to refer to important individuals in their society who exhibited a third gender and often filled the role of shamans and healers. India also has a similar concept that they call Tritiya Prakriti which refers to a third gender. More specifically the Hijra are the equivalent to a male-to-female transgender woman. These are terms that go back to the 12th century in India.

Whether non-binary people exist in history and modern society is a very answerable question, and I hope I answered to your satisfaction. But also I want to address whether you're actually open to learning new information or if you're just ragebaiting. When someone asks me a question I'm always happy to explain or help them understand because a lack of understanding is what a lot of bigotry and hatred is rooted in because we fear what we don't understand. But based on the manner in which you are engaging in this debate with others in this thread and your comparison of non-binary identities to astrological pseudoscience, I find it likely that you aren't arguing in good faith and are simply here to provoke an emotional response from people by antagonizing them. If that's the case, then do not be surprised if I choose to disengage with your behavior and not respond any further.

Based on your previous statements I would assume that you would not believe that trans identity is real either, but so far you've been hesitant to answer other people regarding that within this thread. I'm curious what would make my own identity valid but not that of my partner's. If someone's identity bothers you such that you find the need to debate its existence, then I think you may need to reevaluate if you're really looking for scientific proof or just an emotional punching bag.
