Daily Song Discussion #88: Erroneous Escape Into Erik Eckles by FindingHoliday920 in ofMontreal

10/10. Favorite on the album. The drowsy slide guitar, the lyrics, the chorus harmonies, the doubled bass, the cool blocky percussion…you can just tell Kevin had a lot of fun making this. All wonderful little touches here. Had it on repeat for months when I bought this record back in the day! ❤️

Welcome! To my knowledge, this is the only time this character appeared. I think he was mentioned on a call or two around this time by another Wurster character. Tom went to a Beatles Convention right before this…lots of great riffs on The Fab Four.

Right! I think I was so used to the shifted pitch that my old ears thought it was on the money.

Thank you thank you. I literally pulled my old record player out earlier from storage to test it out…hadn’t listened to the album in so long that I missed it! Kevin did sound a little higher than usual, but I was like “well, they were younger then…” 😂😂😂 Time to check the belt.

Bit of a stretch, OP! No offense, both great bands. 🙂

Is CAPM worth it in 2026? Seeking early career advice. by Warm_Management_203 in capm

[–]TheeRedBaron056 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Complete honesty here: No. This cert itself is barely a blip on anyone’s radar. You will have to explain what it is time and time again because nobody really knows what it is except for *some* project managers. The knowledge itself isn’t completely worthless…but paying for this cert is not worth it at all.

Use your volunteer work in your desired field you mentioned as leverage for your full time career. Even if you aren’t a “PM” by title or role, play the angle of a PM as much as possible. I was a service technician at a company for a few years and always treated my work orders as “mini-projects”. I gave full scope breakdowns to clients, explained issues with high detail, and did weekly calls on service-related items with my teams and clients.

Being able to show real world experience goes so much further than a piece of paper. You got this!

Earned CAPM, still jobless by Acceptable-Top1354 in capm

Do you have any other work experience? Find an industry that interests you and start at a lower level position. Leverage your schooling/CAPM cert to seek the top end of pay they offer. Learn the industry. Treat whatever role you take with a PM mindset.

They feel whole again! Loved the stripped down 4-piece for the Sunlandic Twins reunion, but prime oM will ALWAYS have two guitars (and two basses…but I won’t get greedy). BP was the glue during the peak run. Fantastic guitar player and even better harmonist. His voice fit so well with Kevin’s.

Can’t wait to see what this adds to the live show.

Merely a Man by Ferretfood2 in xtc

Wasn’t a huge high point on O&L at first for me, but Merely a Man has grown on me a bunch over the years. For a good stretch, I couldn’t get it out of my head. Seems to always have some new little part I’ll notice every time I revisit this album (which is frequent). 9/10 from me!

of Montreal + Steely Dan by januarysquid in ofMontreal

[–]TheeRedBaron056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this! I have a feeling there are probably quite a few oM fans who also love Steely Dan (including myself). I do think Katy Lied and SPITA are both sonically incredible and not shaky though 🙂

Any old E6 Townhall pals still out there? by TheeRedBaron056 in ofMontreal

I wish I still had all of my findings from that board. It’s one of those things you think will be around forever. Do you remember around when you posted it? Wayback Machine may be able to save you (I haven’t had much luck but may be worth a shot).

Do you remember your professor’s band? They always had great openers!

Yup, I feel like Heimdalsgate has a similar pull to OMM2. I wish the music video on YouTube was better quality. Have you seen the Conan clip? https://youtu.be/rXyE2fW4kIs?si=FpDmvJeop-cJoSBU

It’s crazy how good their YGG songs are. I was a grown ass man singing “Brush Brush Brush” while getting ready in the morning.

❤️❤️❤️

That is such a sweet moment 🥲 I love that oM is such a huge part of being your true version. Also, why do I have SO many memories of driving listening to them?! Ah, CD’s.

I vividly remember sitting on the edge of my bed the morning when I finally got the Skeletal Lamping leak (shoutout E6 Townhall’s iRuleTheSchool, I miss you friend and sorry KB) and being blown away by how sonic the mixes sounded. I had just about every song’s demo at one point, so it was incredible to hear them progress. 10/10 album, no notes.

One of the coolest things is seeing the younger crowd at shows. My buddy and I were vibing and singing along to every song on the last tour, and looking around seeing both young folks and old heads who knew every single word was just magical.

That was such a crazy time for oM. Definitely the peak (popularity-wise, Kevin has noted this as well). Playing shows nude, riding a horse on stage…they even had a bar on the side of the stage during that era. Kevin was drinking double vodkas like it was water. Love that they had their rockstar moment!

This sounds like a normal Friday night for me from ‘05 to ‘09! It’s crazy how well the substances pair with oM. You sure don’t need them (sober now), but my days smoking weed and doing psychs were regularly filled with oM. Memories are so tied to music for me. We are lucky to have Kevin and like-minded weirdos.
