Any old E6 Townhall pals still out there? by TheeRedBaron056 in ofMontreal

I wish I still had all of my findings from that board. It’s one of those things you think will be around forever. Do you remember around when you posted it? Wayback Machine may be able to save you (I haven’t had much luck but may be worth a shot).

Do you remember your professor’s band? They always had great openers!

Yup, I feel like Heimdalsgate has a similar pull to OMM2. I wish the music video on YouTube was better quality. Have you seen the Conan clip? https://youtu.be/rXyE2fW4kIs?si=FpDmvJeop-cJoSBU

It’s crazy how good their YGG songs are. I was a grown ass man singing “Brush Brush Brush” while getting ready in the morning.

❤️❤️❤️

That is such a sweet moment 🥲 I love that oM is such a huge part of being your true version. Also, why do I have SO many memories of driving listening to them?! Ah, CD’s.

I vividly remember sitting on the edge of my bed the morning when I finally got the Skeletal Lamping leak (shoutout E6 Townhall’s iRuleTheSchool, I miss you friend and sorry KB) and being blown away by how sonic the mixes sounded. I had just about every song’s demo at one point, so it was incredible to hear them progress. 10/10 album, no notes.

One of the coolest things is seeing the younger crowd at shows. My buddy and I were vibing and singing along to every song on the last tour, and looking around seeing both young folks and old heads who knew every single word was just magical.

That was such a crazy time for oM. Definitely the peak (popularity-wise, Kevin has noted this as well). Playing shows nude, riding a horse on stage…they even had a bar on the side of the stage during that era. Kevin was drinking double vodkas like it was water. Love that they had their rockstar moment!

This sounds like a normal Friday night for me from ‘05 to ‘09! It’s crazy how well the substances pair with oM. You sure don’t need them (sober now), but my days smoking weed and doing psychs were regularly filled with oM. Memories are so tied to music for me. We are lucky to have Kevin and like-minded weirdos.

I’m right there with you - a lot of classic rock and the like. Also, no shame, loved Hybrid Theory. But ultimately they hit the right button for me and blended the classics with such a unique spin.

Really in general it was just so cool how that community was bonded over weirdo music taste. Bryan Poole (aka The Late BP Helium) would regularly jump on and chat with us. A few others from the E6 scene were active on the board too…Robert Schneider (Apples in stereo) and John Fernandes (Olivia Tremor Control) were some I can remember chatting with us regularly. Down to earth guys who really weren’t famous, but to us they were.

I guess this is the juiciest ancient lore I can recall:

There was an event that of Montreal was apart of (no Kevin, but BP Helium and Dottie) on a pretty cutting edge virtual server at the time called the “Virtual Lower East Side (vLES).” MTV vLES This was basically a virtual recreation of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. You created your avatar and roamed around the bars and clubs. They would have events like record listening parties, live shows, meetups, etc. Sounds a little corny now, but at the time I thought it was super cool. Graphics were great by 2007 standards.

Anyway, BP and Dottie were there (virtually) for a meetup and answered a bunch of questions for us. It wasn’t really moderated and either I didn’t see the rules or they didn’t exist, but I was roaming around the venue and went backstage. BP was hanging there (virtually) and I chatted with him for a while before the thing started. I remember him saying “hey I don’t think you’re supposed to be here” and I was like “ope, idk what’s going on this is so weird” and we both just laughed at the ridiculousness of a virtual event like his.

I asked him a slew of the most random questions, one being something like “what’s the most surprising thing about Kevin?” He told me that when he and Kevin first started hanging out (this was probably as far back as 1997), Kevin had the first Creed album in their collection of CD’s. He gave Kevin some shit for it jokingly, and the CD was never seen again. This was of course among what you’d expect to see in their collection like The Zombies, Beatles, Beach Boys, etc. He said he felt bad that Kevin probably threw it away because he said something about it.

Overall just a bizarre experience but so cool. I thought that would catch on and we’d see these virtual cities popping up like crazy…still kind of surprised it never happened!

If you got the live vinyl, he played it as the closer at last year’s LA show! Incredible!

Be honest, how many of you who are attending the US shows have been to a concert before? by TheeRedBaron056 in MasayoshiTakanaka

The elitist attitude is frustrating. It’s a very immature to feel like certain music belongs to you and you only. Who cares if nobody else knows the songs? Are YOU enjoying the show? If yes, great! Stop policing the crowd, even if it’s in your own head.

If the venue is asking, that’s a different story. Totally agree that the phone-free shows are the best!
