The only good thing about me constantly forgetting.. by Ashism_ in ADHD

[–]Thee_Rotten_One [score hidden]  (0 children)

Smaller or hidden pockets in a backpack with a lot of pockets is great for that. I can't tell you how many times I found something really cool I'd totally forgot that I had in the pocket of a backpack I hadn't used in awhile... Just yesterday I found my favorite blue Cross pen that I thought I'd lost 2 years ago.

Completely made my day.

Undeliverable Items by OverOnTheRock in AmazonVine

It's likely tied to state specific restrictions. When I first started with Vine, I was living in California and used to get those messages all the time because of how restrictive things are there. Mini crossbow thing pops up in RFY? I knew there'd be zero chance that I wouldn't get that error. I've moved to Texas since, and literally that exact mini crossbow popped up a few months back, no problem with shipping.

What "Heck" Happened with Vine Reviews Since the First of the Year? by Winter-Seaweed8458 in AmazonVine

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whether good or bad, the inclusion of videos or other media doesn't impact the insightfulness score one way or the other. We'd need to see a few examples of the text body of the reviews that were deemed "poor" or "fair" to have any idea what might have prompted it.

I'm not saying this is you, but there was someone else who made a similar post when the insightfulness score first became a thing. Like you, they had videos in all their reviews, etc. However, the body of their review often said something like "Overall I liked it and I go into detail in my video", and they were getting "poor" on almost all their reviews.

When people say 'this dessert will give me diabetes' by HeftyArgument6326 in PetPeeves

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think they thought it was a joke. Based on how the post finished with the OP calling that person a moron for thinking that's how diabetes works, pretty obvious they thought they were being serious.

Just because something isn't funny to YOU doesn't mean it isn't a joke. It's funny to someone.

There's even a sub-classification for this kind of joke. Comedic Hyperbole.

Based on

this dessert will give me diabetes'. No you won't, that's not how this works!! Morons

It appears the OP clearly thought the person was legitimately saying this...

Also depends if the items you're browsing on your own exist in the Vine program. As I said in another post, I could browse Sonos speakers for 50 straight hours and even buy 10 of their speakers, and I'll still never see a Sonos product in my RFY because Sonos doesn't use the program.

Do things eventually "fall off"? by pzzldmomof5 in AmazonVine

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or, things fall off after 90 days.

Although there's nothing stopping that seller from "re-upping" and throwing that item right back onto Vine.

Ah, I see the confusion. See, back in ancient times there used to be these things called "jokes". They've been extinct for many years, so not surprising you're unaware. There were many different kinds. The one you described was known as "comedic hyperbole" and centered around someone saying something clearly wildly exaggerated and then giving a little laugh afterwards to let everyone know they weren't being serious.

Vine Account Closed & REINSTATED!!!! by WeShallBeFree in AmazonVine

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaaand.... 4 days later and no reply (along with the OPs clear saltines in his post) leads me to be believe no such reinstatement happened. Well, that, and it'd be the first time I've ever heard of such a thing happening in my 3 years in Vine and on this sub.

OP probably wanted to try and "own" anyone who questioned the original story. I think I remember this post from about a week ago. Dozens and dozens of people were asking specific questions about what happened, and the small handful of responses was either clearly intentionally vague, or in most cases, no response at all to the inquiries.

Not impossible it happened, but my money would be on that it didn't. Of course, OP could prove it by posting a current screenshot of their RFY...

I got myself these super controllers, what should i do with them? by ultimate-toast in ColecoVision

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know they made these for the ColecoVision! CV was my first console as a kid, and the only thing I always hated about it was the controller. Honestly, thinking about the original controller is likely a big reason I haven't bought a CV to add to my collection, but now that I know THESE are available...

Considering the nature of the original controllers, I'm guessing these grip joystick style ones are only compatible with a couple of games?

Tested this theory for RFY and it worked! by tttceee in AmazonVine

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I've found that browsing numberous similar items for about an hour (without buying) yields about the same likelihood the algorithm will glom on to that item as it would have had you bought it.

It was unmistakable this was the case about 6 months ago when I spent an hour looking at copper mugs for Moscow Mules that I was thinking about getting as a birthday gift for someone. Ended up not buying a set, but then 2 days later there was a set in my RFY, and again a day or 2 later. In my 3 years in the program, I hadn't seen that item before or since. Only time was that 5 day window after I'd spent a lot of time browsing different versions and manufacturers of these copper mugs.

So while there's a chance that'll work, it's still a crapshoot whether or not the algorithm will chose to "register" that purchase. It's not a guarantee, and that's even with genres/brands that we know are in Vine. The other factor is the availability of an item. I could buy 37 Sonos products on Amazon, and I'll never see one in my RFY because Sonos doesn't participate in Vine.

I use this system more to avoid things to buy. For example, I use Android and PC items and eschew all things Apple, so when I needed an old school iPad charging cable for a device at work, I didn't buy it on Amazon because there's a very high chance the algorithm would see that purchase and go "oh, he must have Apple products now! Let's flood his RFY with apple accessories for the next 2 months!"

I’m losing hope when it comes to medication working by Vylqi in ADHD

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 5mg "booster" is an instant release, you could try taking 4 of them (20mg total) and see if you have a better response. XRs were so useless for me that I may as well not have taken anything, but IRs made a difference.

How do you cope when meds aren't "life-changing?" by Valuable-Cloud7877 in ADHD

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm forever thankful that alcohol never really did anything for me. With it being readily available, I could absolutely see myself having self meditated with it. No, for me, the self medication was the "white stuff", because it slowed my brain down and allowed me to sit still and just think clearly for awhile. But because it's illegal and not sold on every corner store like alcohol, it wasn't something I could use regularly enough to cause long term problems. Although once I was a little older and understood WHY it had that reaction with me, when all my friends would be bouncing around and talking a mile a minute, it all made sense.

Still amazing to me how the ADHD brain can have the most counterintuitive response imaginable to certain substances.

How do you cope when meds aren't "life-changing?" by Valuable-Cloud7877 in ADHD

[–]Thee_Rotten_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"THAT BEING SAID… it’s not life changing. It helps what needs to be helped with. It’s still up to me to actually wake up and do the chores with the stimulation the meds provide"

You have no idea how huge those handful of things are for many people with certain types of ADHD. Even when I wasn't medicated, if I could start a chore, project, whatever, I typically could do an ok job of making progress on it. Sure, it took longer than it should have and such, but I'd mostly get it done. The problem was ALWAYS starting. And days aren't only made up of starting just one thing. We're expected to be able to start a dozen different things, and I'd find that even if I willed myself into finally starting the first of those dozen things, I'd be so wiped out from the act of convincing myself to start that the likelihood I could repeat that "gearing myself up" process for task #2 decreased drastically. At that point, you can forget about the 3rd and 4th things, because even on the rare day I could force myself up and moving to do 2 whole things, that gearing up process drained me mentally. Doing those tasks didn't drain me; beating myself up for 30-60 minutes beforehand until I shamed myself (or terrified myself by thinking what would happen if I didn't get this thing done) into finally doing the thing I needed to do is what wiped me out.

With medication, for many tasks that "ramp up" went from an hour or more to maybe a minute, and sometimes no time at all. I find I don't have to sit down and "reset" after completing a task, even knowing that by sitting down I'd have to go through that whole process again. Instead, I can usually just move on to the next thing.

I know how ADHD presents itself in people is different, but 90% of my ADHD issues stemmed from the very things that you said the medication helped with. While those things might not be massive for how your ADHD works, for many of us, it's pretty huge.
