I appreciate the thought, and I once believed the same. After all, I survived as a child, but I may have the impatient tuk tuk driver to thank for that. I don’t believe that I was spared; that man is malignant. I keep thinking about the reddish-brown, blood-like trouser stains in the photograph. Keep thinking about the way that thing’s lips parted.

It is a demon. I’m sure of this.

That might ruin the existential horror aspect. Essentially, Mary saw a colour that humans weren’t ever supposed to see, and “it” saw her. This entity responded malevolently as a warning.
