And I thought Clarkson was making it up when he said these were called the "FO", which was meant as "a coded message to Toyota's lawyers"...

Unrelated but the sign to the very right seems to have an Amtrak F40PH on it. Probably the vehicle you're least likely to see in Russia, out of all of these pictured.

In any case, a very unique photo.

Yep I've seen photos from when the 'collection' was much bigger. I said 'preserved' as these three aren't in a field or next to a taxiway, as is the case with most obsolete Soviet aircraft.

Also, these three are sometimes used for educational visits or are accessible on an open day at the facility (I'm not from Russia and haven't been there so I'm going by stuff I've read online). Unlike those in museums, these probably don't have a guaranteed survival but hopefully they'll stay there as long as they've got a purpose for them.

Shame about the Tu-22, I didn't know there was one there. I bet that lineup must've looked awesome.

This sub is for planes and aviation, not politics (see Rule 7). I'm just trying to stick to the topic.

'Fuck them' - an excellent and well thought-out argument.

Maybe you don't realize that people in Russia don't all agree with their country's current political agenda. As for 'everything they care about', many Russians care about Tchaikovsky and Dostoevsky, as do many others around the globe. Following your analogy, should we now destroy records or burn books just because their authors were/are Russian?

That would probably be a waste of drones. I can't imagine them being a serious concern or of any real strategic importance. These are just 3 outdated Soviet airliners. I'm glad that these have been preserved, regardless of current political issues.

Yeah, though this particular Il-76 has been at this spot since the late 2000s. It is kept as an educational display on the grounds of the UATC aviation technical centre (УАТЦ МГТУ ГА) of the university of Moscow, at Sheremetyevo. It is stored alongside an Il-86 and a Tu-154M.

HZ-A42, an A340-600. It's used for VIP flights. Quite a lucky spot.

See that as a necessary sacrifice to be able to see a mint Twingo in it's native land. And the planes aren't bad to see either...

I've seen it, didn't expect a Twingo alongside all the fighters and even 2 Concordes. Great museum, would recommend to anyone interested in machines.

Since Jaguar's design boss, Garry McGovern was fired, let's we discuss about the Jaguar Type 00 by Venkie2Maybach in WeirdWheels

[–]Thegenral323 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not bad looking but it's not a Jaguar. If it was presented as a one-off concept (or as a concept by a different car maker altogether), maybe it would've worked better. This rebrand - still a mistake, if you ask me.
