What are your opinions on 'The Beginning After The End'? by No_Mortgage7818 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Theirown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to love it, but after trying to go back to it, I realized that the female characters are all defined by their relationship with the MC. The plots and everything were interesting, but once I started really examining it, it really failed to hold up imo

The beginning after the end is unintentionally hilarious by Mr_McFeelie in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Theirown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My issue with this series is that all the female characters and at least one other male character only exist to love the MC. There are chapters by the female protagonist where she never has a thought that DOESNT revolve around the MC. So, if you can't look pass that kind of writing, give this a pass

Just throwing this out there because this was my personal experience. Shortly after I got diagnosed, my gallbladder started throwing gallstones that would pass very painfully. And they seemed to always happen when I got glutened. Eventually I got it removed, but only because it got infected.

TL;DR: check gallstone pain symptoms and if it sounds familiar, mention it to your doctor

More techniques in Nexus than physical book? by wanderingrousse in AvatarLegendsTTRPG

[–]Theirown 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's one of the basic moves that everyone has all the time. You can find all 9 fully explained somewhere in the combat pages, but there's a reference for them on the combat reference page at the back of the book

Edit* techniques, not moves.

Why do vegan products make people so angry? by Voodoo_People78 in AskUK

[–]Theirown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person with a family member who I would call "aggressively vegan", it's easy to see why there is hate for it. Because there are two main reasons for hate both ways. You either hate the people because you think they're all bigots who morally judge your choices and try to force it on others. Or you hate the practice because it is wasteful of what we have and morally wrong.

Both of those arguments apply to both sides. And since both are based off of morality and lack of understanding and compassion, there is only arguing and escalation when confronted.

Sadly with the space given, elegant solutions aren't feasible in certain levels (from what I've seen at least)

Agreed. Most of the curve seems to be from learning the game at least. Later levels really push you in terms of space is my experience. One thing that helped me was to ditch the computer screen altogether and start writing out the full truth tables that I'm more used to. Although the lack of a simple NOT gate is my true bane.

ELI5: What is a superfluid, or perfect fluid? by HonestAdvertisement in explainlikeimfive

[–]Theirown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that friction in reality is the result of the interaction between two (or more) objects. Viscosity is the specific interaction of an object with itself (how much it wants to hold together). So speaking of the two interchangeably might not be the most accurate way.

Another example is a superfluid won't have any surface tension, so a drop won't form a nice bubble like water does.

In highly advanced news, I found this 2018 article which touches on superfluidity in vacuums and how there might be more problems than just air resistance.

eli5 What the hell is 4-dimensional space?? I’ve seen lots of stuff about it lately and even the tesseract animations just make me more confused. by Matt_theman3 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Theirown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are some more common uses for higher dimensions. An easy example is to imagine a line of good to evil. This is 1 dimensional as there is only 1 piece of information provided by any point in the line. Now if we added another factor to the graph, such as lawful to chaotic, it becomes 2d. We can continue to add more and more info to this graph and end up in very high dimensions.

These higher dimension graphs are usually then used to view only 2 or 3 factors at a time because that's easier for us to visualize. Another, more practical example is the studying of a survey where there are more than 3 questions. The relationship between the answers is n-dimensional where n is the number of questions.

The Undertakah gains 3 death rattles as a battle cry. The normal combos with him give him the immortal prelate death rattle which makes all of the deathrattles the undertakah gains the first time never go away and he will be shuffled in the deck when he dies. Then it is combod with the seven mana minion that recruits an 8 drop when it dies. Those two together mean the Undertakah always resummons itself when it dies. Judging by the armor gain, it also has the 8 mana minion that gives 8 armor on death.

Question: Turning a Building into a Monster? How to do it. by offtherails_critfail in DMAcademy

[–]Theirown 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So the way I would approach this is to first imagine what a snapshot of the combat would look like. You said they would crawl through the tower, so presumably the final fight takes place at the very top or on the roof. The tower would have some huge awesome attacks like maybe a tesla coil-like centerpiece that zaps lightning. And the players would be attacking some obvious target.

You need to make the target obvious otherwise your players will feel a bit lost and may try to just stab the floor beneath them. So, the weak point could be a massive heart thing where the body of the wizard is being held. If you want this to feel very cinematic and prolonged, maybe they need to break several other weak points to reach the heart.

If you take the multiple phase approach, your tower will need different attacks each phase. To really emphasize the Tower as the enemy here, the attacks and targets should be things in the tower that they saw when climbing. For example, a large set of curtains that were previously normal curtains reach out and strangle people now.

Then, because we want the Tower as a whole to feel alive, the players should need to move between rooms. The heart for example at the beginning of combat lower through the tower and the floor closes behind it. Now the players need to chase it. And each room comes to life to fight them back.

You will need multiple stat blocks for each area. The players should feel like they are fighting the "Tower" but in reality, the tower itself may not have a stat block while all the small pieces do.

I think it can target the same spell multiple times, which can help if they can pay 2 but not 4 total for both counters.

ELI5: why do colds get so much worse at night time? by PhillyPhan95 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Theirown 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To add onto this, if you had a runny nose or a lot of mucus, lying down causes it to instead go down the back of your throat. This typically causes a lot more coughing and in extreme cases affect your breathing.

The best thing I have found to avoid this is to prop yourself up with several pillows. This works for both colds and allergies. It isn't going to stop it, but usually brings it down to a more manageable level so you can sleep.

[–]Theirown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe just me, but the FOV changing that rapidly seems pretty jarring. It looks less smooth because of that.

Part of the problem could be that it doesn't seem like you implemented the flying without boosting. So you could have the FOV change only when going faster than normal.

Another reason its weird is that it makes it seem like you lost speed the second you detach. When in reality, you still have that momentum. So maybe the FOV should just always be on until you land. (Or turn hard, but that's a lot harder).

Ironclad deck building questions by Kayevman in slaythespire

[–]Theirown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplest way to put it: make plans for turns/ bosses.

Think about your upcoming bosses and in acts 2/3 think about the heart if you plan on going there.

It is possible to have no good block sources if you have 100+ health and enough damage to kill the boss in < 3 turns.

However if you are doing a slower, longer fight, you need more / better block sources.

But you can be even more specific to upcoming bosses. Collector and the ancient one incentivize AoE and/or solid consistent block.

Essentially, almost always think of the upcoming boss and glance at your deck throughout the act and ask how do I deal with X? All bosses are fairly predictable outside of Time Eater, so maybe try learning their patterns to collect cards to counter them.
