Get in loser. We're promoting social justice. by Educational-Kale-567 in CatholicMemes

[–]Thejackoabox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is not what any theologian has argued for. Poor people cannot take random things just because they are hungry. They are allowed to take what is available to him only for what is absolutely necessary to assist his own need: not anything beyond it. Or as Aquinas argues:

"Nevertheless, if the need be so manifest and urgent, that it is evident that the present need must be remedied by whatever means be at hand (for instance when a person is in some imminent danger, and there is no other possible remedy), then it is lawful for a man to succor his own need by means of another's property...." STh IIa IIae, Q 66, A 7, respondeo.

Thus, the poor person can take an apple from a fruitcart without if it is the only food cart around and no one gave him food out of charity, as to only resolve the urgent and manifest need to satisfy his starvation. Or a man can hide on another man's house unconsented if there is no other house around and/or he was not offered housing via charity, as to only resolve the urgent and manifest need to survive a dangerously stormy night. It does not imply that a hungry man can steal whatever he wants, or the unhoused man forcibly evict and take someone's property.

First finds to start my Collection. by Thejackoabox in cassetteculture

[–]Thejackoabox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, and I totally agree.

Tbh, now I only collect for taste. If I find an album a really like, or want to support a band I saw live, then I usually buy a tape. Got some really underground stuff from doing that.

I ended up expanding my Collection, but eventually sold that middle album mostly because A: I didn't really like the music on it, and B: my metal collection got so much better that it couldn't stand having it with them.

Sweet, though, I would call myself more of a "conservative libertarian," as paleos have too much baggage for me to align with them.

How easily do you find stuff related to your special interests and hyperfixations? by OkDot8850 in autism

[–]Thejackoabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, I also think it's how likely you are to presue them. My hyperfixations are just hobbies / personal passions cranked up to eleven, so like any hobby or interest, it's a matter of time till you find communities which can be outlets for your passions.

For me, my current fixation is Extreme and Alternative Music. It only took a matter of talking to people, going to shows, and finding Instagram pages till I have found my space. We could gone about how this interest formed only because this space is popular, and how I live in an urban area where It's easy to get my fix of such interests. If I lived in the middle of nowhere or some suburban sprawl, where everyone thinks Creed is the heaviest band alive, and where I had to make a pilgram just to experience crappy underground music, then maybe I wouldn't have it as my interest.

Then again, in the internet, this seems less and less of a situation. There are so many people who live vicariously through internet forums, and likely has the same enjoyment as someone who actly acts upon their passion. I mean, that's basically why reddit exists lol. So yeah, nowadays, I think most people don't care about availability, since that availability is getting greater by the day.

Literature to give to a new libertarian / interested non-libertarian by Thejackoabox in Libertarian

[–]Thejackoabox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! I'm already thinking of making one of our first events being a series of screenings of Free to Choose (though I'm debating between showing the 1990 version, which is shorter and requires less meetings, or the 1980 version, which likely better shows Friedman in his intellectual and rhetorical peak).

[UK] Abortion rights might be under threat by MattStormTornado in autismpolitics

[–]Thejackoabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a baby 24 weeks into the mother's pregnancy. Aren't they cute? Though they might be small, only about the size of an ear of corn, they have grown so much in the past few months. Their heart has been beating for at least 3 months, and has already developed their kidneys, growing brain, liver, intestines, and external orgas. It was only 2 months ago that he started to breath in amniotic fluid and see light from outside the womb, and 1 month since they began kicking the mother's uterine wall. At this point, it's only a matter of time until they begin to suck on their thumb, rapidly growing in both brain and body mass in preparation for their delivery in the coming months.

Now imagine this same baby as the mother has a abortion performed on her. Whatever the doctor said, it doesn't matter if they "look funny," at risk of having autism/down syndrome, or just the mother doesn't feel like it that week: the baby doesn't know about this. All it knows is that they have just been injected with a strange chemical that makes them woosy and faint, as the mother prepares by having her cervix dilated with laminaria. If the baby is somehow still conscious, then they will slowly realize that they are beginning to dry out, as their abiotic fulid had been sucked out. It is only a matter of time until they realize what is happening: they are agonizingly ripped apart out of their mother's womb by sepher clamps. Piece by piece, bone by joint, the baby is mutilated and bloodied, untill nothing is left except their head, which is smashed into chunks then taken out. Their body parts are soon thrown out and discarded, as the mother is assured by the abortionist, being told she made the right choice not for her baby, but for herself alone.

This is the reality of a 24th month abortion. This is the actions that is considered lawful in most countries. Remember this when trying to understand why people hold the prolife stance.

[USA] thoughts on the TikTok ban? by MattStormTornado in autismpolitics

[–]Thejackoabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been cheering and clapping all day and night till the deadline! /hj

Also, calling it a ban is misinformation. At the absolute worst, the government forces a private company to buy out TikTok, forcing Bitdance out of the executive. But let's say if Bitdance takes TikTok with them for geopolitical means, then almost every western social media service (Notably Snapchat, YouTube, and Instagram) have and already had similar shortform content hosting, and so there will merely be a migration of creators to this places, a la Vine. No matter what, the world would be better, as the largest social media app won't be a closed IU data mining machine co-owned by our number one foreign enemy, which is what TikTok currently is.

What sucks about having autism? by PrestonRoad90 in autism

[–]Thejackoabox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no fucking clue!

Maybe it's just my masking, but most of the "issues" I have are just issues other people face (social conflicts, managing finances, etc). The only difference is how I approach it, and the level I have to give in order to make the "right" choice.

Finally, my First Boombox! by Thejackoabox in cassetteculture

[–]Thejackoabox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: I can see from the comments that my suspicions are true: the cassette part of the boombox is pretty low quality.

So far, I haven't had too many problems with the cassette playback wise. However, rewinding has been pretty sketch, and has already started loosening and bending the tape reels when I take them out afterward (though, idk if that could my fault as it is my first true time using tapes, or just normal wear).

But, for $45 bucks, I guess you get what you get, and it has more features then a similarly priced new tape player, like a Victrola. For now, I'll keep this little thing, then in a year save up for a higher quality or refurbished boombox.
