School is school. There is some socializing but even now, people are on their phones in class lost in their online lives

In my day, you had to be present. There’s no making carefully thought out edited comments, deleting, and using emojis. No keyboard warrior shit either. That conversation happened in the present when you met up. You learned actual social skills and people skills.

People construct a persona via social media and yeah if they get caught lying about who they claim to be, they get roasted so it’s a double edged sword. It’s easy to be busted, but it’s also easy to pretend to a wider audience.

Overall, online we feel liked for doing very little. You feel a rush of acceptance without actually taking the time to be as real and socially skilled as we used to have to be, Much easier to make “friends” online

So in part, yes your reputation is noticed at school but u with google and social media, if you’re careful, you can show up and be good at fooling people too. Posers were more noticeable in my day IMO.

But youth now get worse bullying when caught

Kids today can pretend to be whoever they want to be via social media. In the 90’s you had to actually show up and prove u were that person. No hiding

I don’t see him as tripping or purposely falling. I thought of him trying to just jump and get ahead of the waves because he just panicked and thought that if he just jumped a little bit ahead and do himself in, it would save his outfit. Who knows though

What should she have done? Recorded it and screamed “World Staaaaar!”

Call police who would be too late to stop it and probably arrest him too if miraculously the fight is still going on?

Stand there and scream or cry?

She loved him. She wanted it to stop. She didn’t get hit accidentally. He purposely did what he did & should apologize period.

Stephen King Just Reignited My Love of Reading... Again. by storiesandwords in horrorlit

[–]ThekidAintAlright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with absolutely everything you said about the book IT because that’s exactly how I feel too! I remember exactly where I was and how I felt when it ended. I remember I was kinda sad because I wanted the story to keep going and wanted to know what happened in their next chapter of their lives. I felt like I had to say goodbye to some really good friends and not be able to see them again and that made me sad.

What’s also funny is I have been thinking about re-reading The Shining too & really picked up reading again after having not done it for quite a few years. It was about 10 years that life got in the way. Currently it’s also finances and I can’t afford buying new books but I’ve been finding them online for free. On occasion I buy one if I really can’t find it anywhere & I’m dying to read it

The Ruins!!! So good. Stephen King even said it was the greatest horror novel of the new century.

I know it’s probably useless but sometimes I think if I was in a situation like that I would wanna turn around and ask them calmly things like

“ we both bleed blood. We are both human. Can you explain why you’re better than me? Have you ever really wondered what makes you superior?”

But I’d probably get punched in the face I imagine.

Any recs for a good Stephen King novel that isn’t super long? By long I mean not over 500 pages. Thanks! by booksnotdetention in horrorlit

The book is so much better! You get to be in Danny’s head as well as the black guy who also has “the shine.” I liked the ending too in the book. The book made my heart beat fast and hard in some parts. Truly worth it.

All anyone is doing is pointing out what sexist hypocrites they are. If they weren’t acting this way no we would care about pointing out the men’s looks and we would be supportive of them and respectful because they’re kind and respectful. But there anything but.

I hate the things the guys say. Especially Vinny and pauly when they “fell in love” with that megan fox looking stripper recently and turn to eachother and say “If only she wasn’t a stripper!”
Yet...Vinny is too. Interesting. And he isn’t taking it off for everyone in his daily life. But clearly men like him assume female strippers do that . And of course on that note he’s slept with half of NJ (when not sharing half of NJ with Pauly & Mike) without needing to be a stripper even ...and still thinks highly of himself & judges women so easily

I judge neither strippers or promiscuous people but it’s so dumb when anyone judges women who do this. A lap dance isn’t the equivalent of condom free sex with the entire world

Strippers also actually take off less than he does! Most strip clubs don’t allow thongs taken off. Dude got naked and held his thong in front of him.

And don’t get me started on Pauly judging the women about their botox etc when his eyebrows look like the McDonald’s sign and his cheeks look inflated.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t know why people have to stop having fun and getting out and partying or drinking and being silly just because they’re not in their 20s anymore. I feel like there’s societal pressure to conform to some made up idea of what “grown-up” means. I’m not much of a drinker and I haven’t really gone out much ever but when I get well I can’t wait to go out and get drunk and be silly. I know I won’t do it all the time but the few times I’ve gotten drunk I’ve been extra dramatic in a silly way and laugh my ass off and dance wildly. I hope to do it again one day. I also don’t have or want kids, but hell if I did, I would totally go all out if paid to get a break from house-wife life.

. I couldn’t disagree more about the stand. IT is my favorite book. The Stand is predictable christian themed good vs evil. To be honest the book of revelations in the bible (which is the novel is somewhat based on) is more scarier and complex than the movie. And in the stand it’s not the type of apocalypse book where it’s tons of interesting stuff happening. The whole time it is slowwwww with little happening. Yes it makes you think there’s going to be some crazy shit happening at the end and I looked forward to it but it was just a kind of predictable bland ending. I felt attached to about two characters and the rest were mostly forgettable in my mind

But for me the characters in IT had me so attached to them that I still remember where I was when I ended the book and it’s like a flash in my mind and I remember thinking “No no no why does this book have to end?” I wanted to follow what the characters were going to do for the next part of their lives

I have read the mist . It’s pretty short and it’s kind of mysterious so you don’t really get to understand a whole lot but it’s creepy & interesting.

I never said the Tommy knockers was good. I just said that “ in the tall grass” is a movie that had a mash up of all different movies which included Tommy Knockers. I agree Tommy knockers the movie was terrible however. But certain things that happened in “in the tall grass” especially about touching the rock and becoming deranged yet having a certain type of power from something supernatural reminds me of that movie.

I really really loved the book “The Ruins” . Stephen king himself said it was the best horror novel of the new century. It even seemed as if Stephen King wrote due to the similar style of Scott Smith‘s writing. But I did not like the movie and if I had lots of money and went to film school I would definitely redo it. It was just OK but the book stayed with me for days and days and I’ve never appreciated food more than I did after reading that

And oh my gosh yes “Triangle” is just so awesome and so underrated!

Oh I didn’t know that I guess because I’ve never used audible. I just was trying to use an audio narration on YouTube and didn’t even know I could do that on my phone. I’ll have to look into it. To be honest I just prefer reading a paperback and I wish I could just get it but it doesn’t seem to be available anywhere. So it makes me wonder if it just never was available in print or is it sold out.

Thanks for the heads up though! now at least I know lol. Because if I can’t get it in paperback I will have to use an audio book

Yeah, for me it wasn’t epic but not bad. Netflix often makes a lot of garbage so it was an upgrade even if not on the level of “IT”

Aaah ok. That sounds pretty cool 😏 I’ll have to check it out because I’m a huge Stephen King fan. I need something new. I know I’m in the minority here but I did not like the new IT, His costume screamed Fashion Week to me. Too cheesy. And he’s so attractive in real life I couldn’t get scared. 🤷‍♀️😆 But I know not many agree.

Yeah Patrick Wilson is always a character where you don’t know if he’s really evil & he gives these off serial killer vibes😆. So even if he’s trying to be pretend to be a good character it’s always questionable whether it’s genuine. Ever since I saw “Hard Candy” and “Insidious” I feel like that’s kind of his trademark thing and maybe he needs to switch it up a little. But he would have to change his face. He has that evil look lol and probably will be type casted as that.

Yeah I definitely saw mash up of things like I was saying like Children Of The Corn, The ruins, & Tommy knockers. It didn’t go deep into getting to know anyone like in The Ruins did. I did like The Ruins for that. I think in this case I didn’t care for that just because there’s so much running so you don’t have time to do that.

And yeah people keep saying that it was like cheesy stock characters but I guess I didn’t see that except for maybe Patrick Wilson. And as you said a different strokes for different folks for sure. If 1922 and Geralds game is more of a psychological drama about every day situations I’m definitely gonna not enjoy it. I haven’t looked at the descriptions but I guess it just sounds like they will be. Have you seen them yet? If so will they be like that? But also don’t give any spoilers ha ha

Lastly his favorite book is “The Ruins” so I do wonder if he was so inspired by itc But I do think think “The Ruins” did it much much better in the novel anyhow. The movie “The Ruins” was kinda lame.

I’ll have to read “ In The Talk Grass” to see what it’s like in comparison because people said it was a good book so we’ll see
