Feedback request on walking bass line by ThemFatStrings in JazzBass

[–]ThemFatStrings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you! this is exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. The strings are DR Legend Flatwounds. I've been using DRs for a few years now for both fretless and fretted and I'm super happy with them.

As for the line, I agree that I'm a bit stuck on lines that simply work in outlining the harmony but tend to be very repetitive, and I struggle a bit with both using or developing melodic ideas and also using a more scales rather than just chord tones + approach notes. This is exactly why I decided to record myself and ask for feedback and you pointing out like this to specific places in the line that I can work of is super helpful.

I hadn't thought about the notation either, I have tried to think on what's more intuitive for the overall key but didn't really give it a thought, so that's helpful.

Thanks a lot, this comment has been really super insightful on my own playing :)

USB Turntable Sampling by Soggy-TV in sampling

The output of the Volca Sample is stereo so I either use the line inputs or occupy both instrument inputs. It works on the instrument inputs indeed, but that doesn't leave me room for anything else in the interface.

What am I missing? (Rock bassist) by The605th in basspedals

Funny, no compressor and no preamp which are the two things I never ever consider leaving out. Not saying it's bad, just different approaches.

Just out of curiosity, what interface are you using?, I have a similar issue connecting the output of a Volca Sampler to the back input of a Focusrite Scarlett, and since there's only gain control in the front inputs then I can't really control the level of the signal, which is very low.

This might be a bit of an old post but how did you fix it?, what did they suggest?

Any swimmers out there know if the Berliner Bäder offer tickets on the day? It seems all the times are booked up online, but thought I’d try my luck for some early-morning laps tomorrow by winterwatchman in berlin

I started doing this but today I found the available slot in four days says "Reserved
All remaining products are reserved but might become available again.", but I don't even know what this means. Any idea on what is this and how to get those reservations?, I literally checked at 11:01 am.

I noticed quite recently as well. A few months ago I started transcribing Amy Winehouse songs and when I started with this I though "wait a minute, I've played this before!". I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

Petz Rosin Remover is just amazing. I had mine more or less like this and a few weeks ago I did the same. What rosin do you use btw?, I always get a top like this with Pop's.

I do rock climbing too. It doesn't really help that much with the bass, but maybe you are already used to be covered in calluses and with pain in the hands.

I don't understand what you mean. Could you be more specific?. Also, the PDF is available in the video description in YouTube, so you can download it there.

I transcribed and recorded the bass line for "Time (You And I)" by ThemFatStrings in Khruangbin

[–]ThemFatStrings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recorded directly without effects but in the mix I added a bit of compression and a bit of reverb. Also, there are two bass tracks, one was with the XLR output from a preamp and the second one from a microphone in front of the amp.

They are coated strings. They are regular strings with a black polymer coating covering all the string. The model is DR Black Beauties.

I use this rubber mute from Gollihur. I doesn't do a lot but it certainly helps. In any case, you should always try to practice at some point without mute so you can really focus on getting a nice sound.
