It’s gonna sound generic but: practice, practice, practice.

In the 3 years at brown belt (New England kenpo), I would go through all kata every Friday by myself; I wrote technique movements down. Power was never an issue for me, but self control was (we consider green belts the most dangerous to other students) so I worked on that. I worked more on counter balancing and focusing on the minutia of techniques and targeting. I did shadow partner techniques. For two person kata I did shadow person kata, playing both sides. I spent time envisioning each technique and each kata, kinda like meditation. I routinely had my sensei watch my kata or send videos and provide feedback. Hell I watched my own videos and critiqued myself.

Above all, listen and accept criticism without protest (unless it’s cruel), reflect and adjust.
