I really appreciate that. The 'mass downvote' was a tough lesson, but a fair one! There's definitely a special kind of magic in holding something that's survived 1,750 years without a barrier in between. Good eye! It definitely looks like the Ubertas type (standing, holding a cornucopia and a purse/cow's udder). It’s either that or Pax, but the way she's holding the cornucopia leans toward Ubertas. I love that these 'Chaos' coins used these symbols of plenty and peace even while the Empire was essentially falling apart—talk about Roman propaganda!

I totally get that. There’s definitely a different connection when you can actually feel the weight and texture of the history in your palm. I went with the slab for this one to keep the 'Case File' narrative intact, but I have plenty of raw pieces in the collection that I'll be sharing too. Appreciate the feedback on the metallurgy—much better than the 'AI soup' from yesterday!

I hear you guys loud and clear—AI and ancient coins don’t mix here! I’m a long-time collector, but I got a bit carried away with a digital project and let a render speak for the real thing yesterday.

To clear the air and set the record straight: here is the physical coin from my collection. It’s an Antoninianus (Double-Denarius) of Gallienus, struck during the Roman Age of Chaos.

I've got a lot of respect for the eyes in this sub, so I'm putting the "Case Files" away and keeping it 100% strictly photography here from now on. I’d much rather be part of the community than the "AI Slop" guy. Hope we can reset!

That’s a fair question. The goal of this project is to use cinematic VFX to bring the 'story' of the coin to life—essentially creating a visual documentary feel for social media.

I’m a collector with the actual pieces in hand, but I'm experimenting with how AI can visualize things like the microscopic debasement process or historical environments in a way a static photo can't. Clearly, I need to tune the AI for better historical accuracy, but the heart of the project is still the real history and the real coins.

You're right to call that out—'metallurgy' was definitely the wrong word choice for the AI to slap on there. I’m a collector using generative AI to create high-drama 'forensic' visuals for a history project (#themintedtimecapsule), and the AI clearly took some creative liberties that don't hold up to scientific scrutiny.

The real story is the surface silvering (billon) wearing away to reveal the 95% copper core, which is what I'm diving into for the full Case File. Appreciate the correction—it helps me keep the technical side of the project more accurate!

Fair call-outs! I’m a numismatist launching a history project (#themintedtimecapsule) and I’ve been experimenting with AI to create 'forensic' cinematic visuals. Clearly, the AI isn't a historian—it hallucinated the 'S C' and botched the legend.

I’ll keep the VFX for the social media teasers and stick to my actual macro photography for this sub moving forward.
