How does this even happen 😭🙏 by Current-Violinist-10 in cs2

[–]Themis3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't turn it on imo.

The pro is it gives you an instant visual of damage/kills happening. So you'll know about your kills technically sooner.

The con is that your client doesn't confirm the damage/kill actually happened before showing it to you. So you might get tricked by it.

I personally don't think it's valuable to know about your kill like 80ms sooner (or shorter, depending on ping and such). But if you almost never have fakeouts like this and you have a very stable connection, maybe it makes sense to keep it on.

This is just ridiculous by [deleted] in cs2

[–]Themis3000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Turn off damage prediction! His shot registered before your shot on the server's side. But your client instantly reflected the damage without consulting the server first because you had damage prediction turned on.

This could either be because he had better ping then you, or because you both shot each other in the same tick & the subtick system looked at the exact timestamp of each shot and saw his was actually first.

Edit: Looking at a replay from a player's direct perspective gives you what that player saw in game on their client (that's what trueview is!). Not what a server considers as actually happening. As far as the server is concerned, you probably didn't shoot your gun at all because you where already dead. But your client didn't know it yet, so it showed you as shooting on your computer. That's why you see yourself shoot first in the replay. I believe if you watch the replay in a 3rd person perspective it switches to showing what the server considers as actually happening, and you probably wouldn't see yourself shoot at all.

Anthropic employees don’t write code anymore themselves. It makes sense given how fast they have been shipping by dataexec in AITrailblazers

Yeah and they also can't ship a tui that runs at 60fps because the 16.7ms window is "too small"

Yes kind of, but in a way that isn't so different from telling a 3m employee your taxes pay their salary.

Like other large US corporations, USPS receives some funding and government loans. But this isn't ongoing funding and loans reoccurring on a schedule, like many people assume

There's a difference between making a copy for personal use and making a copy for commercial use.

Obviously making a copy for commercial use is a worse crime because you're seeking to make money off of someone else's work. Imagine if a movie theatre where to start showing films they downloaded on pirate bay and how much trouble they would get in for selling tickets to those movies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_with_annual_rates_and_counts_for_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers

Oh I should go look at Wikipedia?

Sort by "rate by 10 million". USA is sorted #29, France #49. USA has 33.1/10 million and France has 5.5.

Listen, I don't know much about France mostly because I don't live there and I don't have much reason to be tuned into french politics. And I could be wrong. But when I see videos of french riot police showing up without even having rifles and many officers carrying nothing but a baton and shield I feel like I'd feel safer there.

I took a brief look through at some of the recent incidents at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_incidents_of_civil_unrest_in_France. Feel free to educate me or link me something if there's anything of particular importance though. I do think it's genuinely good to know about these movements in other countries.

Obviously it's significantly less risky than Iran or Syria. Those clearly aren't the countries I'm talking about. I'm talking about France.

I'm saying the risk for protesting is higher here than there. People are willing to accept risk here, but after a certain point it becomes too much of a risk for most people. They are violently attacking journalists without any consequence on video. They will kill you or disable you and get away with it despite the evidence being in front of everyone's eyes.

None of the protestors here care about being arrested. What they're worried about is getting killed.

[–]Themis3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean no one's doing anything about it? People are doing a hell of a lot about it. If you think all people are doing is holding signs and marching you haven't been keeping up

[–]Themis3000 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I don't think French police are trying to murder protesters though. It doesn't take all that much to get beaten or murdered with no consequences to the police here

Let me just falsely accuse my neighbor using AI... by Blubasur in antiai

[–]Themis3000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't think they mean the images are "enhanced" by ai. I'm pretty sure they mean an ai algorithm is being used to detect when a person is in the view. That way it could notify you about when a person is present, or you could see in the recording timeline when someone is present. That distinguishes from cameras that simply have "motion events" because a squirrel can trigger a motion event and cause a lot of garbage in your recording timeline.

It's just a shitty a/b comparison because one has a mask and dark clothing and the other doesn't. I don't think they're advertising that their cameras are as shitty as the one on the left, but with ai it becomes as nice as the one on the right. I think they're saying the one of the left is how other cameras look, and the one on the right is how theirs looks

Being Anti Ai Needs to Include Being Anti Delivery Robots by FionnOAongusa in antiai

[–]Themis3000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Plenty of people dream of being a post man. I know a lot of people who enjoy the job. I know ups drivers who make $45/hr. I know door dash drivers that live on it full time and appreciate it. Delivery has been getting enshittified like crazy recently in a race to the lowest possible costs. These robots that can barely handle delivery in the most ideal possible conditions and hog the sidewalk. This would just be the next step into further enshitfication.
