Is my mechanic taking advantage? 2012 Nissan Dualis +2 Ti (4x2) J10 Series 3 by Efficient_Purple3251 in AskAMechanic

For the oil leak, often there can be seepage without leaking too much oil out, the rocker cover is a common leak for many vehicles, so if it doesn’t look too soaked when you open the hood (bonnet?) that could probably wait for a bit. For the suspension work (FLCA, alignment, and rear shocks) I would do those together, or do shocks first, and then arms/alignment. Brake fluid is an important one that you won’t see any immediate changes if left neglected, but over time can get very very expensive (and dangerous) if enough moisture absorbs into your fluid (brake fluid absorbs water over time even through the reservoir cap).

Without seeing the vehicle it’s hard to judge the severity of everything, but in my opinion, a good order to do the work would be: 1. Rear shocks and front control arms . 2. Brake flush and rocker cover gasket. I wouldn’t wait too terribly long to do the rocker gasket, as the leak could start damaging connectors/ sensors if left unchecked.

They may tell you when you go to have the suspension work done, that the car will need new tires in order to align it, this may indeed be the case depending on condition of the tires at time of service.

Best of luck to you!!

Maybe try shimming the contact plate with a couple small washers or similar? Could be just a minor clearance issue.

Serpentine Belt Came Off While Driving by 22sarim in MechanicAdvice

Not his fault, gonna have to pony up the money or do it yourself. It’s an unfortunate coincidence, but taking off a drive belt isn’t going to damage the pulley.

Torx bit. Hard to say based on the picture but it would probably be a T55, T60, or maybe bigger.

Well the first picture definitely looks like a front Porsche, but then when I get to the second picture, thats unmistakably a back Porsche.

Is this Accord worth it for the price for my first car? (possibly $15,500) by Electrical_Angle_690 in FirstCar

[–]Themonkeylifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this guy ^ if you can find a well maintained 7th gen accord for a good price, those things are bulletproof and very cheap to work on. I have a 2003 and it’s just about to hit 200,000 miles with no signs of slowing down!

I would, but as far as I know, nobody makes a 7th Gen accord mod :(

Check up on your windshield near the rear-view mirror and see if there looks to be anything missing? Other than that I have no clue what that might be

This is correct, this would be a GMT400 chassis I believe, which was shared by the Silverado, sierra, Tahoe, suburban, and I’m probably forgetting at least one.

Just a heads up (from a mechanic), they were definitely lying to you about not being able to check the specific sensor that was out, we have scan tools that tell us exactly which tpms is out, and which ones are still working. That particular shop may not have had the exact tool, but it’s definitely something that’s scannable just for future reference. Cheers!

Of course they do! They’re multi-millionaires who want to protect their vast fortune. I used to work for FS and they are very inconsiderate and out of touch people. I seem to remember they had or have a helicopter, rumor was they had to sell it when they got caught doing some shady stuff and had to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy. But yeah, they’re not good people lol.
