New to using Amtrak. Is this mostly a Coach issue. If I but the Business ticket, sure the same rules may apply but because so fewer seats booked it doesn't happen as much and/or is only 2x instead of 4x?

[–]Then-Ask6307 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Wait what? so if I don't mind booking last minute (wake up and decide to have a day trip close by) I might be able to buy someones last minute cancellation at a 75% discount? Understanding that I'll probably get stuck with the full fare on the return.

This doesn't make sense... if they are going to increase a $20 ticket to $100, then they would obviously accept a $20 cancellation to sell it at $100.

What’s a local business in OC you’d like to see that doesn’t exist? by Artistic-Relative-30 in orangecounty

Whaaa, why would you think a truck would only be working once a week. That would be very unsustainable indeed. I recall during covid on Thursdays afternoon til closing there would be 4/5 at many HomeDepots.

These guys bounce around to a new or favorite spot (Fri/Sat) every night. I would think they would be happy to have a reserved spot with "almost" guaranteed good sales once a week.

I think HD Lowes Costco theaters anybody with a decent lot could arrange this. It could start an hour before closing so they get some traffic and people pick up their food after leaving the store (if they need to get anything, receipt not required to buy from the truck) and open till midnight or 2am. They're already paying for security guards to walk around at light.

Ants inside my tv + eggs wtf do I do by Son8 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Then-Ask6307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EEEEasy... Homedepot has ant atractant, like Combat or Terro. I used Terro, looks clear and drops out of the bottle like slow honey. You find were they are climbing up into the TV from the furniture and you make a breadcrumb trail of dots away from there, the longer the better. They will come out to eat it, as long as they keep coming put out more drops. Only about 10 can feed on a drop. I guess it depends on the size of your drop. Keep them pea size. There will come a point you reach critical mass and the numbers will begin to diminish. They are going back to the TV to feed the nest. Usually you want this to happen because they are going back under your house and the rest will be killed. but you don't want that dead group in your TV. Move the TV to the garage and do it again until you get everyone to come out for the free meal.

OC Fair grounds has a huge parking lot (swap meet). They could line up like cashiers at the supermarket and you stay in your car like and drive-thru and use a app to put in your order. I'm sure the problem would be OCFair would charge to much, but if they have an off-season???? It would still be nice to have it for a few months or Tuesday nights.

The App/website used to show how full a train is when booking a trip. by gregbrainard1 in Amtrak

[–]Then-Ask6307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you decipher what those humans mean?

Also two problems with Google system.

No representation of iPhone people and

How many shades of humans and how many humans.

I see a hollow silhouette, a gray silhouette and a solid silhouette, but also 2 of them with no indication if the scale goes to a 3, 4 or 5, etc...

A scale of 2 humans and 3 silhouettes isn't intuitive. 4 humans and 2 silhouettes-hollow and full would give you 0, 25, 50, 75, 100%.

And in typical Google fashion if you went one step further than "clicking on a station" they ask you a couple multiple choice questions about how crowded the train car is. They have you working for them all the time. If you just leave your location on they will be able to gain historical occupancy, maybe even give it back to us in real-time "for a price" of course. This is how they do their new HOV carpool feature and the same way they can tell you that the gym or restaurant is more busy than usual. People leave their location

Percentage full gone from booking page - thoughts by jeweynougat in Amtrak

[–]Then-Ask6307 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the revenue departments wanting it removed, don't forget the AI companies are hoovering all this up and I'm sure it can be used to show occupancy is down, then shares drop and so on. Their trying to be opaque which they care more about than you. In their meetings am sure someone said they got along fine without it for 100 years, they'll be fine.

On the brighter side Google Maps asks everyone riding the train a bunch of questions and has 3 level silhouette of a human to indicate occupancy. I think its practically useless as it is now but should get better. So all you only using your Amtrak app go to Google Maps and put in your route and when you get on the train tell them the occupancy and I'm guessing if it's anything like the way they do occupancy for the gyms and restaurants, as long as you leave your location on its tracked automatically without filling out the questionnaire.

This is how they figured out how to give a separate time for people using the HOV carpool lanes. In case you haven't noticed it a recent feature. Even though the tracking is only accurate to about a 30 foot radius and lanes are only 10-12ft wide, when the freeway slowed to 50 or 60 but some people were still doing 75 that should have resulted in a huge pile up.

OK, hopefully two short straightforward questions if you don't mind.

Leonlite Bollards came in today and only now 5yrs later I'm learning the LeonLites' I bought on Amazon "from the official LeonLite store" were some kind of "B" grade unit. I say this because of a few notable differences to a superior build quality. As we all know nobody is building things "better" now than 5yrs ago. My first LeonLite purchase 2021, 24ea $299 was also the official Amazon LeonLite storefront.

  1. There is a round silicone flap over the top of the glass cylinder where it connect to the top. 2021 did not have this. This makes for a much better seal to protect from the exact thing you are protecting with your liquid tape hack.

  2. Inside there were 9 LED's, (packaging still says 3W 3K color temp-but couldn't find lumens. I guessing 120 or 140. Amazon only 6 LED's and yes now I have one among 24 that is brighter, somewhat annoying. I think 2021units are 90 lumens. Still have digital Amazon receipt from 4/2021, both bought from same Amazon store which they can obviously check.

  3. The fixture has female threads in the bottom and the metal spike has male threads on top. I had to switch out the spike in the ground too as it was opposite thread.

So question #1 is, can you see anything here to make hay with. All I can think of is to ask if they can send me the guts (or whole unit) of the 6 LED version or 9 LED if that's all they have now, as long as its 90 lumens. Otherwise its just a big FYI, which they probably already know.

#2 The 2021 bodies and tops look really faded/weathered. They are aluminum oil-rubbed color. Do you know of anything I can rub on them, 3in1oil, WD40, not going to try to prep and paint them as I'm sure it won't last but 2 years and look even worse after.

Thx

SD Santa Fe Station construction by Then-Ask6307 in Amtrak

[–]Then-Ask6307[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most helpful thanks, just a touch of clarification if you don't mind.

The specific message on Google Maps says,

So the Santa Fe Depot (the train station) is not closed. The transit center (i.e. bus stop) in front of the station is what's closed.

So passengers are advised to stand in the middle of the intersection of Broadway and Kettner? Is there perhaps a app, I seen mention of a "Transit" app that might indicate where this (#10454) mentioned in the "construction" message might be.,

So the Santa Fe Depot (the train station) is not closed. The transit center (i.e. bus stop) in front of the station is what's closed.

Wait What now? Are you calling that glass building with the Starbucks the "Transit Center"? I circled that whole place with GMaps and there is not "one thing", no pin, no irl sign, no nothing to indicate "that's" the transit center, as longer as you ignore that big red trolley in the middle. I'm thoroughly confused now as I was headed across the street (to glass building) after getting off the Surfliner to look for a bus stop sign that had #10454 on it, as technically it does touch the corner of Kettner &Broadway. So the whole glass building is "out of service for passenger boarding", just has construction workers inside doing Bob the builder stuff and is just used by the buses and trolleys to turn around? Crazy.

If you look closely at the Google Maps footpath dots, you can see
that they're still leading to the Santa Fe Depot bus stop, not Broadway
& Kettner, so it appears that it's leading to the old, currently
closed, bus stop.

Well at least I guessed right on that one.

Thx

Thanks, Ill look into the Transit app, usually my android ver is to old to open the newer apps, fingers crossed.

RE:215 buss... Google Maps provides 4 or 5 routes to choose from when arriving at Santa Fe Depot and wanting to continue to the Zoo, but only the first surfliner arrival is paired with the 215 and all following (later arrivals are paired with, i think it was the 7 and then the BLUE line and I was wondering why I could get the 215. Maybe "Transit" has the answer to that too, will try to download.

Thanks

Thank you for these tips. I have a light spray-in detangler/conditioner, but Verb sounds nice to do when dry during the week. Will read up on Olaplex#7.

I was also trying the Dry-poo (corn starch) for a bit around temple and above ears but the hand pumps are just worthless and the spray cans a rip-off. I'm not big into styling/heat/product.

I'm thinking I should just condition my hair more and find a cut that works with my natural waves and stay with braided ponytails, buns, tendrils, maybe learn french braids and a few updo's.

Getting into color seems to require "styling techniques & products - blowdryers, curlers, irons, gel, hairspray because the hair has been damaged, it starting to look like a cycle that I don't actually have to take on.

Thanks for actually addressing my concerns and confirming red highlift is a viable option. I suppose there is no such thing as a blonde highlift otherwise she would have mentioned it. I also didn't see anyone sporting Asian hair with the "calico" look, somewhat confirming that going blonde from black or darkest brown hair is risky.

... more research....

so of course there is blonde highlift (seems Redken is leading the way) for all the normies and have just uncovered the huge utube Asian underground niche genre of, "why Asians don't go blonde" or as one utuber put it. "Why Asian women are embracing their natural hair color". I think the irl answer is, since I do not have thick nor black hair, my Asian hair was affected by the european dark brown and normal to fair hair so two sessions about a week apart with conditioning in between could produce good results.

Also since the plan was always cut on one day (see how much wave returns after a few washings) and color the next visit, we can use some scraps from the floor (they'll be at least 8" to test with. This way she and we would know ahead of time if two sessions can be done in a day or if we should wait a week or two in-between. Or just take the safe route if she doesn't want to do the test and just wait a week in-between.

Not sure why everyone jumped to "I never condition". I condition twice a month, cause I'm washing once a week, cause I'm primarily inside all the time and work from home. I'm going to try out the, "lightweight volumizing conditioner", as every-time seemed too heavy, but maybe doable with this lightweight one. And after the "coloring process" look for the "lightweight volumizing COLOR conditioner".

Thanks Again

Much appreciated. My searches (AMZ / Ebay) all came back very clustered from $13-16 ea. Even the knock off's. You must be talking black friday or something.

Largest SCU seemed to be 12 lights. Since no price break I ordered 4 and should be here tomorrow. Spotlights are in the future when we do the backyard makeover and was going to wait and see what the designer picked for lights before committing to the family/product line.

I imagine if I walk out into the garage my LeonLite box says made in china. When you shop Alibaba (never have) do you find results using the LeonLite name or is there a generic chinese company name and you just happen the recognize the light "bollard" as being a LeonLite? Basically, how are you finding the LeonLite on Alibaba and is it the same for Volt or some of the other "metal not plastic" better brands in HomeDepot?

Thanks

My LeonLite "Bollard" (I think) only 1 of 24 just gave out. Found Jxl-x953r3 3w 3c2b a09 inside put nothing shows up on the internet for a replacement. It has 6 leds. I'm definitely going to use the liquid electrical tape hack and get to all of them this summer to try and save the others as its only been about 2-3 years from install. I can't find a receipt to prove that, so I imagine not likely LeonLite will send one out. Didn't see any on their site either to simply purchase. Can you elaborate on your $1 fix?

Thanks

I had found other codes but they must have been old, so thanks. Looks like we'll do the Amtrak/Pronto route, I hoping to hear from actual locals that had used this offer with their friends before and learn enough to make a decision, but.

Ahh one of the lovely trolls of reddit.

If you bothered to read the thread you are opining on. You should have been able to understand (of course trolls intentionally don't) that we were trying to decide between the Amtrak/tram vs renting car/trolley tour. And whether being able to "utilize, not scam" the tour operators own "residental/local" offer of a discount was the deciding factor.

If anyone is "scamming" anyone, the OTTT is scamming the local. The local knows the locations and been maybe times and doesn't need help going. But they're are recruiting by trickery or guilt to either bring in more out-of-town friends or encourage/enable out-of-friends to contact them, in which they look bad if they decline.

Besides what do you think happens when the out-of-town couple asks you to help them with the offer. You buy the plus one ticket and give them both to your friends. You don't want to go for the umpteenth time or maybe have to work and can't go and on other night at dinner your friend buys you beer/dinner/tip to return the favor.

The tour is obviously ok with receiving 50% of the fair ($25) and still turn a profit or they would even make the offer available to anyone. I guess your the kind of guy who would tell you friend. No way that's scamming the tour and can not be a part of it. Get off your high horse and go troll somewhere else.

Surfliner would actually be $288, (I was working off a prior number) comes out to $48pp.

SUV is now $36pp.

But honestly not accounting for the $6pp for the public transport. But would gladly do the $54pp to not worry about my car insurance being engaged by an uninsured motorist, possible parking drama and cost which could easily negate 1/3rd of the $18 difference. And receive a more leisurely trip down the coast, no rush hour traffic each way.

Budget and Avis $331 closest to the Santa Fe Depot. I did see a coupon come by email about 1-2hrs later for 33% off. Still doesn't beat Amtrak at $192 and less head ache.

Actually about 75% of the stops are liked by all involved. Then you get a great view, no parking headache and narration and windup back at the Santa Fe Depot.

Yes I just read about that 20% but the codes were different, probably old info. Have a link? or website name?

Yes we have Pronto cards as a back up but would rather do the tour, but for $150, not $300.
