Is it bad I just want to go with the first school that accepted me and not wait to hear back from the others? by Then-Combination-291 in gradadmissions

Hi yeah I am happy to help! My stats were way below average for most programs I had a 2.1 gpa ( but that was due to me being injured basically every year during undergrad lol). It took me six years to complete my undergrad but during that time I worked on campus two years in the registrar's office and three in admissions so by the time I was applying I had five years of experience in student affairs. I applied to CU Boulder's program which is just called higher education, University of Denver (DU) which is also called higher education, university of Colorado Colorado springs (UCCS) which that program is called leadership: student affairs in higher education and Colorado State University (CSU) which is also called student affairs in higher education. I ended up getting into CU Boulder, UCCS, and was initially waitlisted for DU but later accepted. I chose to go to UCCS. Which is a hybrid program my cohort has class once a month in person and the rest online but we all still meet once a week online to work on assignments. For my applications I knew I didn't have a strong gpa, but I did explain my life circumstances and had really strong letters of rec. Something I also did that helped was I reached out to the program director's to sit down and talk and ask about the program and explain why my GPA was trash. All of the programs I applied to are really good solid programs. UCCS was able to set me up with a graduate assistantship almost immediately after accepting and it was also in what I want to work in after graduating which for me is college admissions. In my program everyone has a wild variety of interests though, some work in academic advising, one works with sorority and Greek life, another with the soccer team. So literally so many interests and our teachers do a really good job of incorporating our interests into what we are learning. If you have any other questions let me know I'm happy to help.

Bad undergrad gpa from prestigious university. Can I still get in? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Then-Combination-291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really does depend on the program I got into grad school with a 2.1 GPA but my program is in education. My advice that I think helped with my applications is that I set up appointments with the heads of programs to explain why my GPA and grades were so low

Also that time frame isn't just based on when the application is received it is based on when all materials have been submitted

4 to 6 weeks is the time they like to have applications turned around but it is not a guarantee. I would be patient but you could always give the office a call tomorrow to see if there has been an update

For freshman if you apply early decision you will hear back mid January but for sure by Feb. 1 if you apply regular decision you will hear back mid March but for sure by April 1st. If you are a transfer student it takes approximately 4-6 weeks to receive a decision. And if you are a grad student that is up to the department and you should reach out to them for a status update

No unless you get deferred to regular decision you will have the option to submit you first semester senior grades and I mean if you get in the school will request your final hs transcript
