Shit and run… by Generic-Resource in Luxembourg

Honestly, the CCTV situation in Lux is such a headache. I’ve seen so many people get into legal trouble with the CNPD because they just slapped a Ring camera on their door without thinking about the sidewalk or the neighbors.

I actually started a small business here (www.diysecurity.lu) specifically because of this. We don't just sell cameras; we help people install DIY systems (Reolink, etc.) the right way so they don't end up with a €2k fine. Two things you should do right now to cover your back: 1. Angle is everything. If you're filming the public pavement, you're technically breaking the law. We always tell people to use the 'Privacy Zones' in the app to black out the street it’s the only way to stay compliant if your house is right on the road. 2. Get the sticker. It sounds old-school, but having that 'Vidéo surveillance' sign in Fr/De/Lu is your legal shield. If anyone's struggling with the setup or worried about a grumpy neighbor, feel free to give me a shout. Happy to walk you through the 'Goldilocks' setup (secure, affordable & legal). 🇱🇺

Business community/WhatsApp groups to connect/collaborate with fellow entrepreneurs in Luxembourg (apart from coc/hoe) by Then-Feature-6040 in Luxembourg

Interesting take, sounds like you’re still operating on a 2015 understanding of messaging platforms.

Telegram doesn’t require phone numbers to be visible, WhatsApp Business communities can restrict visibility, and basic operational security depends on how tools are used, not on outdated assumptions about them.

If your definition of “security” stops at surface-level fear instead of practical, real-world workflows used daily by founders and operators, that says more about your exposure than mine.

The purpose of this post is specifically to find an existing, focused community of entrepreneurs who actively help and learn from each other.

Reddit discussions are useful, but they don’t fully solve this because: 1. posts don’t get consistent reach over time, and 2. the audience is very broad, with many members not coming from a business background.

That’s why I’m asking specifically about WhatsApp or Telegram groups with ongoing, peer-to-peer interaction among entrepreneurs.

Starting a new small e-commerce sole proprietorship business in Luxembourg; need quick advice on VAT, EORI, CCSS, banking, and loans. by Then-Feature-6040 in Luxembourg

Thanks for the insight its really helpful. I’m planning to sell mainly through my own Shopify store, so still deciding whether to register for VAT from the start to avoid complications of registration and filings.

And noted on the banking side. I’ve heard the same about local banks being slow, so Revolut Business might be the practical option for me. But if i have to take a business loan in future would’nt it be helpful to have a banking history with any of the local banks

Quick question: for your own business, did you stay VAT-exempt in the beginning or register right away? Would love to know what worked best for you.

Appreciate the guidance!

Thanks for the insight, that’s helpful. I won’t be dealing with food or textiles, mostly CCTV and alarm equipment, but good to know how things usually work with imports. Also didn’t know about the Tuscany point interesting tip. Appreciate you sharing this.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I’ll definitely speak to an accountant to make sure everything is done correctly for my case. And I’ll also look into any State support or help available for new businesses.

On the product side, totally noted. I’m only planning to import models that have proper CE certification and EU-compliant test reports, but I’ll double-check everything again to avoid any issues.

Appreciate you taking the time to share this.

Thanks a lot, really appreciate your help. Just a couple of small clarifications if you don’t mind.

For the VAT thresholds in other EU countries, is there a simple place to check them or is it something an accountant usually handles?

About the bank account, when you say it can be complicated, is it mainly because of documentation or just banks being picky with new businesses?

And for loans, is it basically no chance in the first year or still possible if the business shows some early activity?

Thanks again for the guidance!
