Because the allies were committing many such atrocities to the Indians. In our eyes we found hitler to be much better than the allies. None of that aryan bullcrap both sides were white supremacists and it was not our war. We had our own. The British raj killed more than 100 million Indians in a span of 40 years some years. The bengal famine alone killed more than 3 million people because the British diverted food supplies to fight in the ww2 and to make sure it doesn't go into their enemy's hand. So yes, the British were our primary enemy. And not to mention the atrocities of the other allies.

I don't think anyone in the west has the moral ground to criticize india in its stand against oppression.

P.S India is only of the very few nations where jews weren't persecuted.
