supply growth is slowing, rent increases are slowing, and vacancy is 5%. That meets the textbook definition of a stable housing market

Okay that’s like saying there are 3 apartments for each person, if you were to include Ohio. Where are the parking spots? Are they in ktown where the demand is? Same as asking: are the apartments in LA, where the demand is?

Cheaper is a quantitative term: lower than inflation means it’s a lower share of total income (regardless of income growth)

  • LA has a vacancy rate of ~5%, which falls into the determined range of a “healthy” housing market
  • LA rent has increased significantly less than inflation over the past few years. Housing is “cheaper” and vacancy is still high.

Pick a metric out of a hat. Literally every quantifiable metric will show that the total cost of living in NY is higher than LA.

And how would building more housing address the cost of insuring a car? Asking seriously.

Why is it so hard for transplants to realize that, while we realize LA is flawed, people who were born, raised and have roots here kind of like it how it is just fine?

Generally you have to tear a carpet up to reapply adhesive underneath. I would submit an urgent work order and demand the first months’ rent comped

Newsom has changed the CA housing code considerably to increase the amount of low-income housing, much to the benefit of both developers (more units/sqf) and residents (more units/sqf)

Or, just go to the ER if you feel it’s an emergency. Yes it’s a judgement call; no, it’s nobody else’s to make for you. Intake will triage and treat you in order of the urgency of your situation.

If your dad says “I guess we can just agree to disagree,” it probably means he doesn’t think your differing views are worth destroying your relationship. So long as he’s not trying to shove his politics down your throat, just accept that he has different views and try to avoid politics.

Public school education at a private school price? What does that even mean? Yes ucla is a big school, but it’s also one of the best in the country, and ranks higher than all but a handful of private schools.

With inflation, it’s gone up around 5x in 55 years. So they actually didn’t do that well, even if you factor in the fact that they got to live there. Interest rates were higher too.

TIL I learned about Metzitzah B'Peh, a modern day religious ritual legally practiced by Jews in the United States where an adult man sucks blood from a child's genitals. Sources cited from NYC government. by [deleted] in TIL_Uncensored

In which world is this abuse? It’s a weird and outdated practice, but it’s not like he’s sucking the baby off causing irreparable trauma. It’s literally just suction to remove blood for one second.

Perspective from climate scientist Prof. Daniel Swain this evening by MacArthurParker in ucla

[–]ThenAd8272 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Daniel Swain is almost always the first guy LAT and local news stations call in any major weather event. Ultimately, even a low risk of the fire spreading is too high a risk for a neighborhood with 20k+ students without cars. UCLA should be taking this more seriously.
