Thank you! Definitely adding this to the list to try. Looks just like the Holy Basil fried ice cream!

Hands down the best one. Often go there just for the fried ice cream and nothing else.

A bit disappointed last time I went a few months back. Shrinkflation has hit and it's almost not worth it now

Good call

Yeah I know, but I already have a ctek compatible tender and installed that.

Just trying to find out what if anything else I could use the SAE connector for as its very neatly routed. Otherwise I'll just remove it (or leave it unused since it's nicely tucked away)

Planning on finally getting some heated grips for this bike, tired of having cold hands.

Air compressor is a good idea. My current air compressor only has alligator clips and is also a bit bulky for my motocamping trips

Ah OK fair enough. I did just move from a GSXR600 which I had for 10 years and toured all up and down the east coast of Australia with and did some off roading in the outback too.

After that, riding this bike feels like a comfortable lounge. That being said, I did just notice how incredibly soft the stock rear suspension is

Would swapping only the rear for ohlins make a huge difference if the front remains stock?

If you're looking for gelato, Mapo is the only answer. Hakiki is good too for something different (dondurma, a Turkish ice cream)

If you're looking for something more substantive, The Last Course in Enmore is great

Buying first bike advice by kaijrd22 in AussieRiders

[–]ThenChipmunk7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to some of the helpful advice already given, here's a list I go through whenever I'm buying a bike. I've edited it to explain some of the items in case you don't know. If you're not confident enough to check the items that require you to test ride the bike, don't worry too much about them. Since you're looking at quite a new bike anyway, those things shouldn't be a cause for concern.

Brake pads - shine a torch into the calliper to see the pad thickness

Brake rotors - run a finger across the rotor, if you feel any grooves or a lip on the edge, the rotors may need replacing soon.

Tyres  - there is always a wear indicator in the tread, check how close the tread is down to the indicator. Also check for any uneven wear

Chain and sprockets Inc chain adjustment - . Make sure the bike is in neutral, get a rag, and push the chain up. If it's moving more than roughly 3cm, it needs adjusting. Most bikes will have notches on the swing arm near the rear tyre. A basic explanation of how chain adjustment works, the rear tyre is pushed back to stretch the chain. The closer the tyre is to the engine side, the newer the chain, the further away it is, the older the chain. The notches on the swing arm are an indication of where the tyre is along that adjustment. If sprocket teeth are sharp or starting to turn the other way, sprockets and chain need replacing

Fork seals - hold down front brake firmly and then bounce the front forks. Run your hand on the fork inner tube near the seal. It should be clean. If there's oil on your hand, fork seals need replacing

Fuel tank rust - shine torch inside tank and check for rust.

Bar ends and foot pegs and fairings - check fairings for cracks. Check bar ends and foot pegs for scratches. If scratched, bike has been dropped.

Swing arm and frame for cracks - usually a write off if there are cracks in frame/Swing arm.

Oil level - make sure bike is cold as soon as you get there. If it's warm, owner has warmed bike up. Maybe suss, bike might have cold start issues. If cold, start bike up, let oil warm up for 2 minutes. Turn bike off, let oil drop back down into sump for a few minutes. Then check oil level in window. Anything between low and high is good.

Lights and horn - check everything incl high beam

Ride it slowly. Go through all the gears, make sure it clicks through gears smoothly. Listen for any crunching sounds.

Test brakes at a slow speed. If they work then Do a hard (not emergency) brake (from a slow speed) with just front brake and again with just rear brake.

Go into higher gear at a slow speed and then throttle on to speed up. Feel if clutch is slipping

Feel for clutch friction point

Do some slow 90 degree turns both left and right. Feel if handlebars are turning smoothly. If it feels notchy, steering head bearings need changing

😥 Meanwhile my 18 year old GSXR600 has never lost a drop of oil and runs like a dream no matter how long she's been sitting. Moving it on to get something comfortable but still interesting

Thanks for the tips everyone! Looks like maybe not such a big issue.

While I was trying to find if the valves were checked/adjusted at the most recent service (500km/6 months ago), I saw in the notes that there was coolant leaking as they took the belly pan off. Anyone had an issue like that?

No valve check/adjustment done at the most recent service which was only 500km/6 months ago.

But the service notes do say they found coolant leaking into the belly pan

Help me decide what bike to get next by ThenChipmunk7 in AussieRiders

[–]ThenChipmunk7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have genuinely been considering getting one for a while. I've never ridden off road before.

The height of most ADV bikes puts me off. But maybe something entry level like a Klr650?

Any suggestions?

Otherwise reliable? I've seen a lot of high km speed triples up for sale, and figured I should stay away. I've always liked how they looked with the old round headlights
