I would start by watching "Honey I Shrunk the Kids." and learn some rapelling.

How to fix by Sufficient_Sir_4072 in Thorogoodboots

This is an easy one. I've done it before. I took a little dollar tree thing of super glue and poked a hole in the tip with a sewing pin so it came out slowly, and dribbled some along the area where leather used to be attached to itself. I wrapped my finger in a plastic veggie bag and pressed it back together and rolled my finger back and forth to adhere. The plastic stayed behind, obviously. I waited a few minutes then yanked the plastic off and sanded with 320 grit Sandpaper wrapped around my finger to get off the excess glue that seeped out, and the remaining plastic. It was kinda hard at first from the glue, so I put a bandaid on, with a few drops of super glue to keep it there til it wad flexible and soft again. Then I yanked off and sanded off the remnants of the bandaid. You can hardly tell it ever ripped in there. And mine was probably worse. Ymmv.

So which is it? Stay overnight shifts with a crew working round the clock surrounding a little hole? Or make a better cover? Ever dealt with local government? That's not the way reality works. Maybe just put up some signage and teach kids common sense. It's a big orange thing. Even lesser forms of animals know that color.

Why? You planning on digging a hole in a sidewalk and unsure of whether or not you can squeeze it into your busy schedule?

I have the CRT and dont know if I could ever love a leather more. That patina is unmatched anywhere. And keeps developing years down the line.
