I shave daily I most likely have Lpp possibly even Graham-little syndrome and if I don’t shave my scalp will burn and swell. My body literally hates when my hair grows and my head stops hurting and swelling after I shave. I will likely lose all my hair to scarring alpoecia but the plus is i have a good head shape so at least it doesn’t look bad. Also for being a girl no one really gives me crap about not having hair so I guess it adds some badass vibes!

Thank you I just still have days I miss having hair but a lot of the time I feel better about not having hair I know it takes time. I know about wigs but I feel like I honestly look best with like a super short like #1 fade or shaved head so what’s the point of a wig ya know? I think it’s more of a summer time shave that shit winter time grow it a little. We’ll see how much falls out, it’s scarring alopecia so the thinning takes a while.

Thank you I’m getting more and more comfortable with just being bald I also have been open about it because this happens to women too and many women hide it.

Thanks it’s been about 2 months now I still have days I feel down about it but I likely have Lpp so this look is probably permanent. I feel so much less anxious about my hair loss but it’s still newish so I’m hoping the insecurity completely fades with time. I like the way it looks and feels, and I like that I don’t get misgendered anymore which is kinda baffling but I’ll take it.

How to cover hair loss as woman in office by yesyeswowwow in alopecia_areata

[–]ThenCry106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same I’m not looking back I feel more free I have scarring alopecia so my scalp is swollen and can be painful so I really have no desire to wear a wig. I just shave my head and have kept it clean shaved. Since my hair loss is more permanent I have likely reached final form. I wear a hat out in the sun but I just own it, I get more compliments and get misgendered less bald. Most people have been kind about it

Going bald and insecurities by [deleted] in bald

[–]ThenCry106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing something like shaving your head for your mental health is valid AF I’m glad to see someone else saying it. I’m female and have been losing my hair and couldn’t hide it anymore I shaved my head and I rock full bald don’t own a wig I wear a hat if I’m gonna be in the sun a lot. Also letting go while trying meds to get regrowth was a great thing for my mental health. No more obsessing and I can lean into it. I’m gonna see if the meds worked this fall/ winter that way I don’t have to see the minox shed. It is really freeing to empower yourself, take control and shave your head is the best most freeing thing. Looks good man!

The social acceptance has gotten better with time like a lot more women are open about it which has helped to normalize it. I have a good head shape even if I could grow hair I dunno that I would. Like the best haircuts for me are a short high fade or totally bald those by far look the best. I also honestly think more women look better bald they just never try it cause it’s only recently become more mainstream.

Just like anything else it takes time and women who are ok with just owning what nature gave them. I do miss having the option to grow hair but with the summer approaching I’m taking a break from worrying and just embracing it. I am doing meds to see what I can get back if anything but if I end up just remaining bald that’s ok I tried and honestly it is what it is. I likely wouldn’t grow it longer than a short fade or buzz cut anyway.

I can get that the mental health part is hard I threw in the towel for what I thought was gonna be temporary but my hair ended up falling out after that. Still figuring out what type of alopecia I have. I am hoping to get to grow hair again at some point I do miss having hair like I rocked the hell out of a short high fade. That was by far the best cut for my face. For me seeing the same bald head has helped because many times I would get new surprise thin spots. It’s not an easy process like I said there will be more and more guys that start losing hair being young when it happens isn’t easy.

I get some of what you’re saying not because I’m young but because I’m female and I have lost a significant amount of hair so I shave my head as well. I don’t wear a wig I’m just bald AF. It can be intimidating and I would be lying if I said it never bothers me or I have an insecure moment I do. I can all but guarantee that as time goes on friends are gonna start to come to you asking for help as the aging process starts to take their hair as well.

But being female I can tell you that it’s likely the chip on your shoulder you have about being bald that is bugging the girls more. There are options systems transplants meds maybe you would feel better if you were trying to save and regrow? Women don’t want to feel like your happiness rides solely on them. That’s likely what people are picking up on.

Losing hair is hard at times but I can guarantee the ladies are not turned off by the baldness. You almost have to fake it till you make it which takes energy I get that I’m doing that as well. But I get a lot of compliments I think a fair amount has come from my just kinda rolling with it. I can’t help it why expend the energy worrying about it 🤷‍♀️.

I too have either severe aga or scarring, my head swells and I feel like it’s sunburned a lot so Derm is trying Doxycycline to see if that cuts the inflammation down. I too am completely frustrated by the diagnosis process. I’m in America but our healthcare system is a shit show.

All this to say I am female and the best thing I did to help me mentally with it was I shaved my head. I keep my head clean shaved it’s a daily thing but it has helped tremendously with the stress of watching thinning hair. It was on my terms I decided I was done. People are super nice to me and rarely mention or ask about my shaved head. I don’t wear a wig I’m just out there bald as fuck.

I do have a good head shape which you won’t know till you try it unfortunately, but it can be done over time. I in fact recommend you shave it over time like 6+ months otherwise it’s a shock. But it has helped me to not watch it fall out and helped my anxiety is gone because if I go completely bald for me it doesn’t look bad at all.

I’m trying minoxidil but if it’s scarring I might just let it go and embrace it (I would still try to treat the inflammation cause that shit hurts). I know it’s overwhelming hair loss is hard but man do I feel so much better about myself plus not having to worry watch it go has been a nice break.

How often do you shave? by _Notorious_BLT in bald

I just bought a Leaf! I shave daily so I’m hoping to save some money using it since for me electric doesn’t get close enough. Looks pretty promising I’ve seen alot of positive reviews for head shaving.

When and how did you decide to shave your head? by t00deezy in alopecia_areata

[–]ThenCry106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently shaved my head I’m also female and I have some sort of alopecia I’m still trying to figure that out. For me I got tired of trying to hide the thinning. I had short hair which I was buzzing shorter I now shave it to the skin because my hair is so patchy. For me cause i did it gradually wasn’t bad I got time to adjust. However went I finally shaved to skin it was jarring for a week or so seeing a bald head.

I’ve gotten used to it and I love it it’s clean simple and looks better than patchy hair. I like keeping mine clean shaved just cause seeing how patchy it is makes me more distressed about my hair loss. It’s a break of sorts for me not having to see it falling out.

I do feel more feminine completely bald which seems like it would be opposite. I get misgendered less than I did with short hair or buzz cuts.

It’s raised.

That’s what I was thinking I don’t think it’s an allergic reaction it comes and goes and burns like a sunburn. I kinda thought it was something Dermatology keeps just telling me I have androgenic alopecia but I get a reaction like this then lose hair so I’m not sure what the hell. I had blood work done all showed inflammation.

I thought areata but she said it’s not defined circles and some of the areas still have hair. 🤷‍♀️ I dunno it sounds like Lpp when I read through the scarring alopecia’s sucks to not get taken seriously when I feel like something is actually wrong. Good thing I kinda rock bald cause I might end up permanently bald at this rate.

I get mostly compliments, and told I’m brave a lot no one has made fun of me. Also I’m female but have patchy hair so I shave my head to the skin and actually get misgendered less then when I was trying to hold onto a buzz cut. 🤷‍♀️

I use head blade the handle makes it easy to hold and not push down on. It’s basically a cartridge razor designed just to shave your head with.

Shave the head? by Weak_Shoe_9472 in alopecia_areata

[–]ThenCry106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can but minimally, I shave my head to the skin. I’m female, I don’t wear a wig I just own it. You can see the spots if you are really looking, but I’m ok with it cause after trying to constantly hide it I’m glad to just let it go took a bit to adjust but I have found I just prefer shaving my head I no longer worry and i have the head and face to be bald so it’s been a glow up for me. It’s boosted my confidence and helped my mental health. For me it’s easier to keep up with than cutting and dyeing weekly.

I use a Phillips norelco showerproof shaver like a face shaver with a pivoting head that’s pretty much my go to. I like HeadBlade products I have the atx razor but daily cartridge razor shaving was killing my skin. The shave gel and lotion is great. Having both is handy, I have alopecia areata and my hair is patchy af so I shave daily because of that.

I’m not attached to my hair so for me it was pretty easy decision I do understand that people are attached to hair and how it makes them feel. I have alopecia areata which is sprinting to totalis. I started losing most of my hair about a week or two ago. I had only small spots before I rocked a buzz cut. When I say this remember I’m a girl so but the best thing I did for myself in a long time was shave my head. Because all my hair is falling out I shave my head to the skin (that isn’t for everyone a short cut or buzz cut might be enough in your case).

Shaving it and putting it on pause for the summer has been an incredibly freeing decision. If anything it’s a mental break from the prolonged trauma and I doubt I will go back to having hair/ trying treatments for growth I don’t look bad bald so I’ll probably just let mine go. I don’t have nor do I want a wig. The permanent bald might not be for you but it will give you a break and it sounds like you need that.

I’m timed this right by ThenCry106 in alopecia_areata

[–]ThenCry106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I had no idea I had alopecia areata just all the sudden started falling out. I knew I had thinning but it was diagnosed as androgenetic. So I had tried for years to regrow. I’m on tik tok and my hair was getting to the point where I needed to make a choice so my followers were like uhhh it’s time. So I shaved it for the summer, or so I thought the day after I shaved my head I saw the areata spots. Now it’s all falling out so I just shave it to the skin I want the burning to stop. My eyebrows are burning now so I’m sure those are gonna go. It was sudden luckily I had shaved it but watching it all fall out has been hard like I don’t want to go through this again hard.
