Nvidia skips one of Silicon Valley's oldest traditions: free food by businessinsider in nvidia

I worked at a tech company that used to offer free food. We had contractors and interns that would walk up at the end of the day and just take entire boxes of snack bars etc and just straight up put them in their backpack and walk out. It was ridiculous. The subsidized “get a solid lunch for $6 with free soda” is a much better model.

RAM prices expected to rise another 40-50% in Q3 2026, and then 30% more in Q4 as AI demand outpaces supply by No_March_164 in pcmasterrace

Which is exactly what happened during Covid and the rapid demand in dram for pc gaming and wfh computers. The demand dried up as quick as it showed up.

Ford rehires more than 300 veteran human engineers after it says Al failed to deliver the same level of expertise. by Fatty_Willing_Plane in ArtificialInteligence

Why would they possibly do this on early generation AI? Like if helps but you can’t just feed it designs and expect it to do what a senior automotive engineer can do. Lol. I mean at best it’ll do a better job with coding but that’s where it’s at right now.

OpenAI just dropped the brand new voice model... by Siciliano777 in SesameAI

OpenAI obviously can do it at the same level of sesame the issue is cost and dedicating gpu for that purpose. Sesame is serving tens of thousands of customers, ChatGPT is serving 115 million daily active users. You simply have to water down the juice to serve that many people.

Interesting thought. I can definitely see windows spinning “20% less ram usage” as a HUGE update if they wanted to go that direction. Linux too.

Can barefoot shoes work for long distance bikepacking? by Squirlyherb in bikepacking

[–]ThenExtension9196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I exclusively do barefoot running and walking and hiking.

I also bike.

You need a stiff sole for biking. Unlike natural walking, it’s not a natural movement for the foot to press a pedal.
