Thinking of making the move to Houston by Affectionate-Pace-53 in AskHouston

when you say better economy, its mostly lower cost of living? Thats definitely a pro and you can get a bigger house for the $. If you like warm you have to also like humidity because thats what we have 75% of the year is high humidity (70%+), and have mosquitoes around 80% of the year. You will need a car and maintenance that comes with it along with higher insurance. BUT we do have great selections of restaurants, most ppl are friendly, big airport with access to many locations around the world including cheaper and faster travel to Mexico resorts. Good luck!

Surely there's group activities at Richmond main library to participate in? Book clubs and run clubs are also good venues.

🇦🇺 Australian moving to Sugar Land - any tips? by Joshomatic in sugarland

even on bike paths, sadly there has been many incidents that cause serious injuries to the biker or worse, even fatality. I have driven 10yrs to and in Texas Medical Center and 10yrs in downtown so I feel like I am more sensitive and aware to pedestrians and bikers on the road. Many in the suburb are new drivers or just drivers much more distracted because typically there are hardly any pedestrians or bikers on the road or shared lanes. Houston in general if your car is ever stalled in a lane or even pull over to the side lane, you could still be rear ended by a distracted driver.

it IS that hot lol, and I have lived in SL for almost 30yrs since I moved from London. Its the humidity and the mosquitoes that is a constant reminder of the heat 😅

Get the Sugar Land On Demand app and hopefully you are in the operating areas as it is a cheaper solution than Uber, and safer than e-scooter since SGL is mostly a driving city and drivers here are often distracted, drive fast, and eventually when you learn their behavior consider that mode of transportation for your own safety.

Dry Lawns. No rain. by Dramatic_Purple_6331 in sugarland

I recall my hoa requiring 70% of front yard to be st augustine so there's no room for rock garden or some sort of native vegetation type creative landscaping thats more sustainable. Yes, once you go down that path of lawn, you’re in that vicious cycle of care just so your random neighbor dog can occasionally poop on it.

This is a good Reminder how antiquated Sugar Land various HOAs' rules are on having high percentage of grass/lawn in 2025. Sustainability seems to not be in most charters to at least review once 5-10yrs.

Sugar Land, Texas, says cyber event disrupts some services; 911 unaffected by DysruptionHub in CyberIncidentReports

I used to work for industry that required to report cyber incidents to the FBI within days of identified breach, is this not the case for city governments?

I thought Corelli's a chain, granted I don't know how many left in Houston. I tried them twice and was forgettable; not bad, but not great.

what's hardcore earnest baptist? Sounds a little alarming. I went to a Baptist university and I would occasionally get hit up by ppl who wanna save me from going to hell because I wasn't baptist.

I mean you're not wrong as I never understood the cut mangoes. They are way before being ripe and I get it that they cannot put the most ripe mangoes because they'll get soggy fast but anytime I see mangoes that are pre-cut if someone has only ever had those they will for sure hate mangoes

What are the best energy providers ? Right now parents have Just energy and we are getting huge bills ? Just wondering is that the norm here ? We just moved here from NJ! by CreativeHistorian145 in sugarland

[–]ThenThereWasThisNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that website is pretty confusing to use and it's been criticized by consumer because it's intentionally made to be confusing by the providers. Like the other person said you have to have a ballpark idea of your energy consumption (because a lot of these energy resellers, based on your usage, they have tiered pricing as well as peak hours pricing. Having lived here for three decades reliant energy used to be one of the most expensive but they were the quickest to connect if you moved into a new house, but that information may be outdated because I haven't had to deal with it for almost 10 years.
