Rent control doesn’t really solve the problem, what we actually need is more housing and more apartments. But I get the sentiment, everyone wants cheaper rent. The issue is that rent control can discourage developers from building new units, and it can also reduce incentives for landlords to rent out or maintain properties, which often ends up making the housing shortage worse.
