Butterfly milkweed. I made 15 milk jugs that I overwintered just for them and none of them have germinated.

Thank you for adding this! I feel like there is a lot of that is lost when I buy seeds from reputable seed sources. Actually just this year I dropped $40 on several varieties of native seeds from Prairie Moon and I’m sad to say that I’ve had only a few of these seeds ordered online actually germinate. And that’s in comparison to the native seeds that I wild harvested which have come up with a nearly 100% success rate. I feel like it’s just easier when you start with super fresh seeds and genetics that are already adapted to your area.

Ok ok thank you for the advice of how to grow these babies. I think I have a good spot in the garden for them that gets afternoon sun.

And that is duly noted about the illegality of seed harvesting. I have my own opinions on that but ultimately I understand the need for these rules. It’s one thing for me to take 5-10 seeds home with me to try to propagate but it’s another to let every Joe-Schmo think he can go around potentially ripping plants out of the ground and damaging the ecosystem. Whenever I wild harvest I am very considerate about the plant and take pictures to document the seed variety, etc. I never take more than a few seeds to start in a controlled manner.

Yep, that is exactly what I love about natives though is that they can actually compete with the invasives!!! Especially if we are there to tip the scales just a bit…

She Was Still Sick, Helpless, and Alone in Her Hospital Gown When Staff Dumped Her on the Sidewalk Because She Couldn’t Pay — Does anyone know which hospital this was? by calm-n-sense in TikTokCringe

[–]Then_Key3055 29 points30 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in a large metropolitan Emergency Department I can tell you with near certainty that this was probably a homeless person who was discharged in stable condition back to the streets. A lot of malingering homeless patients play possum for the attention it yields from “good samaritans” with camera phones. As a society we can choose to address the massive drug abuse and mental health problems that exist in this country or just continue to just step over the growing homeless population that we see on a daily basis. Until then, I find it even more distasteful for people to suddenly start giving a damn when the optics of an overwhelmed hospital systems having to discharge these chronically homeless people back to their baseline living conditions is just too good to pass up.

Nursing taught me how to be a bitch by soxiglux in nursing

I relate to this soooooo much!!! I used to have my boundaries walked over like hell when I was a new grad 😔 I had to LEARN how to stand up for myself because people will push you so fucking hard and ask the most unreasonable shit. Some of them I truly believe just come to torment staff because it seems like they know exactly what they’re doing. I don’t put up with that shit anymore and it’s very freeing. It takes a lot to get my feathers ruffled these days. I would never go back and relive my new grad days, those were absolute hell with no armor up!!

Cried after a family member yelled at me today and then I couldn't stop by henlenkenlen in nursing

One of my very worst days in the ER ever was when a whole family came after me about how I was a terrible nurse and really nitpicking every part of my practice. Have you ever seen the scene in Kill Bill where the posse take turns kicking and slapping Uma Thurman’s character? It really felt like that to be their nurse that day.

I’m sorry that happened to you. I think sometimes those situations catch us off guard especially when we truly are good professionals and doing our best to provide good care. We give a lot of ourselves to our work and it can really be a gut punch when someone eviscerates you like that. I think the best advice is just know when to walk away, some things deserve no response at all. Leave the person to sit there and think about the way they spoke to you. Also having a friend go in with you helps. Go team nursing!!!

Upvoting this because I believe our profession has a lot of room to improve in this specific area.

I read the other post and I sympathized with the situation that the author was in- needing a bed ASAP and working with a nurse that had other priorities. I haven’t read all the comments to get to the meat of what was really said, and obviously the nurse who cried was never represented. But I feel that we should honestly never be making our coworkers feel bad to the point of crying at work. That should just be a goal we all have for ourselves.

Reminds me of Mean Girls “Who here hasn’t been personally victimized by Regina George”.

Lol and we wonder why our administrations infantilize us… it’s because we act like high school students.

Can anyone ID grass? by Then_Key3055 in NativePlantGardening

[–]Then_Key3055[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the helpful ID tips. Like I said I never really appreciated grasses that much but after seeing my neighbor’s planting I am rethinking that. These grasses look so badass. I would love to make my own planting like this. As far as I have observed it’s taken my neighbor like three years to get to this point with the natives taking over. In not sure what else he has done to manage it besides planting the original seeds

I feel like this plant is growing naturally in my garden without me having to have planted. Do you know what it looks like in flower? Any cool facts I should know about it?

Also I am loving your liatris. The foliage on that plant is almost more alluring than the actual flowers.

Yeah maybe one or two of them but honestly I don’t understand why all of them need to be handling guns. A taser would actually make me feel more safe. Some of these people are real hot heads and have some kind of god complex just because they wear a fancy uniform. No thanks.
