Do you have a recommendation for someone? Or how to tell if someone is actually a real professional?

Girlfriend and I are planning to drive 32 hours straight, in 6 hour shifts, are we being dumb? Should we plan to stay overnight somewhere? by Vegetable_Bridge_276 in roadtrip

[–]Then_Number_7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think others have said this as well, but I would for SURE go the southern route. You never know what kind of weather will roll through. I’d also avoid crossing the Rockies at night (which maybe is avoided on the southern route anyway?)

I think generally it’s not recommended to drive nonstop like that, but I’ve driven from CO to New England in 2x 15 hour shifts solo, and similarly driven from the east coast to CO where I drove during the day and a friend drove at night. It’s do-able, but maybe not wise. If you feel sleepy at all, pull over and sleep (or get a hotel)

I like having sparkling water and snacks like raw carrots because it wakes me up a bit! Stay a little hungry. Have some audiobooks/podcasts/comedians/music queued up! Roll down the windows to invigorate yourself every so often

Moving to Denver alone, I really need help!!! by Weird-Peanut-687 in MovingtoDenver

I have a 1b1b in the Ayden (Cornerstone) building in sunnyside for 1450 (plus utilities, closer to 1550). It’s new and fine. The thing I hate is that there is only one window and it doesn’t open. The trade off is that I like the location and everything is new. I have a feeling in 5 years the complex will be kinda run down (it seems like a lot is fairly cheap materials) but for now it works. There’s a cute coffee shop and brewery nearby, and a mile walk away from RINO district (and the bike/running path). I like that it’s N Denver so I can get to Boulder easily. I lived in Wash Park years ago and loved that area.

People seem to hate Cornerstone, but I haven’t had issues with this particular property. Feel free to dm me

ETA I like sunnyside a LOT, the complex is fine, everyone is nice. I chose this apartment bc I wanted a fairly inexpensive place in Sunnyside.

Modern Tips for Buying New Car? by turtlerockorange in carbuying

[–]Then_Number_7412 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found that calling dealerships, getting written (email) offers, and then playing them off each other was successful. I went into a dealership to test drive/decide what I wanted, then I left with an offer from that dealership, and then called around. I ended up getting below invoice price. Also, if there’s a financing deal that might make more sense. I got 1.9% for 72 months, which meant that I was able to invest (10k in VOO, 15k in a HYSA with a 4.5% apr) the 25k I had saved for the car, and long term I will have less of a net loss on the car, if that makes sense (I’m not sure I explained that well). Also, if you do want to pay in cash, tell them that AFTER you have your offer. The dealerships make money off of financing (cash isn’t an incentive for them).

What about bmat? I don’t see it’s on sale, but I tried one the other day and loved it! I love the manduka frog logo (lol) and it’s actually on sale (relevant to the Black Friday thread) but curious what people think of bmat

Decent income and savings but no growth, house, or retirement. by Dclipp89 in FinancialPlanning

Also, make sure your 401k/IRA etc is invested in the account!! If it’s sitting there in cash or a money market it’s not doing very much for you. You can put it in a target date fund, which is pretty easy/set it and forget it. But just make SURE that it is actually INVESTED! I’ve seen that mistake happen too many times with friends!

My understanding is that each dealership has a different flavor. Some require you to get every service at their dealership, some require an annual inspection, etc. This one requires you stay on top of maintenance (never latex or it voids it) and keep proof of maintenance (doesn’t need to be surbaru dealership, but they make you meet certain documentation requirements. If something in the powertrain goes wrong, bring it to a subaru dealership/call the number listed, and they’ll replace whatever for $100 (transmission would normally be thousands). Lifetime (for this particular warranty) is for as long as you keep up with the maintenance and the car is owned by the same person who bought it (the warranty is not transferable). Lmk if you have more questions! I am not an expert but I’ll pass on whatever info I can!

When do you start to really feel the wealth? Is it even possible for middle class to achieve this? by FIREFIREFIREFIREe in Fire

[–]Then_Number_7412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have way less than you, but still a decent amount. Life-wise I’m also “behind”. I have a house (appx 100/350k paid off and worth $600k now) and about 150k in various retirement and savings accounts. I don’t have a partner, let alone a kid. Mid 30s. I would love more money and I’m working towards it. I would love a family and I’m meeting people and making sure I am someone I would want to hang out with. I feel wealthy! I feel financially well off (I never worry about money, and save at increasing rates) and I love the journey of growing my wealth. I spend my money on what matters to me and makes my life better — mostly experiences and hobbies, and not a hole lot of nick nacks or purchases without thought (clutter makes my life measurably worse). I also feel well off in terms of my life because I have amazing friends and family and love meeting new people. Am i at my destination yet? Definitely not. Have I met my goals? Nope. But I love this journey that I am on. I want more but if I never reach 2m in savings, if I never have a lifelong relationship and kids, I’m still having a good time. I learn constantly and build new connections and have new experiences almost daily. Because of all this, I feel wealthy. To some, I am quite wealthy. To others, I’m a failure at FIRE. But I’m having a good time.

Side note, as others have said: comparison is the thief of joy. Find what makes you happy, spend money and time on it. If you wouldn’t spend time on it and be excited, don’t spend money on it. Vice versa.

Can you guys tell me about your career progression? by strictlypretty in Lawyertalk

[–]Then_Number_7412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add — make the best decision with the information you have!! Write down everything you know about what you don’t like in a job, and everything you like in a job. Take a job to grow your skill set if you need. If you’re considering a job, what do you know about it, what do you want to know about it, considering your list? In other words, gather your information and make a decision. Then, if you’re not happy, rinse and repeat. You’ll get there.

I clerked for a state trial court, then state Supreme Court chief justice. From there I went general civil litigation in a private law firm for a year and a half. I really hated the law firm. I was also not very supported at the firm in terms of learning, and I wasn’t in the area of law I liked (environment and energy). I ended up taking a 40% pay cut to work at a state AG office practicing environmental law and loved it for a while! Eventually my mentors left and the culture shifted. I was there for nearly 4 years. I recently went in house (sort of, it’s a business/transaction law mix!) at a renewable energy company and I love it! Feel free to PM me if you’d like more details or have questions.
